  • The song was made by the Sanfedists, who were a monarchist and Catholic counter-revolutionary group created by cardinal Fabrizio Ruffo to overthrow the French Republican Jacobin's and reinstate the King.
The Carmagnole was a Napoleonic era French song that mocked the Kings, and the tune of Canto dei Sanfedisti uses the Carmagnole to in turn mock the French Jacobins.
    A lu suono de grancascia
    Viva lu populo bascio.
    A lu suono de tamburrielli
    So' risurte li puverielli.
    A lu suono de campane
    Viva viva li pupulane.
    A lu suono de viuline
    Morte alli giacubbine.
    Sona sona
    Sona Carmagnola
    Sona li cunzigli
Viva 'o rre cu la famiglia.
    A sant'Eremo tanto forte
    L'hanno fatto comme 'a ricotta
    A 'stu curnuto sbrevognato
    L'hanno miso 'a mitria 'ncapa.
    Maistà chi t'ha traruto
    Chistu stommaco chi ha avuto,
    'e signure 'e cavaliere
    Te vulevano priggiuniere.
    Sona sona
    Sona Carmagnola
    Sona li cunzigli
Viva 'o rre cu la famiglia.
    Alli tridece de giugno
    Sant'Antonio gluriuso
    'e signure 'sti birbante
    'e facettero 'o mazzo tanto.
    So' venute li Francise
    Aute tasse 'nce hanno mise
    Liberté... egalité...
    Tu arrubbe a me
    I'arrobbo a ttè...
    Sona sona
    Sona Carmagnola
    Sona li cunzigli
Viva 'o rre cu la famiglia.
    Li Francise so' arrivate
    'nce hanno bbuono carusate
    E vualà e vualà
    Cavece 'nculo alla libertà.
    A lu muolo senza guerra
    Se tiraje l'albero 'nterra
    Afferrajeno 'e giacubbine
    'e facettero 'na mappina.
    Sona sona
    Sona Carmagnola
    Sona li cunzigli
Viva 'o rre cu la famiglia.
    Addo ghiuta 'onna Eleonora
    ch'abballava 'nocppa 'o tiatro,
    mo abballa 'nmiezo 'o mercato
    'nsiema a tutt' l'addularuta!
    E' fernuta l'uguaglianza
    È fernuta la libertà,
Pe' vuje sò dulure 'e panza
    Signo' jateve a cucca'.
    Sona sona
    Sona Carmagnola
    Sona li cunziglie
Viva 'o rre cu la famiglia.
    Passaje lu mese chiuvuso
    Lu ventuso e l'addiruso
A lu mese ca se mete
    Hanno avuto l'aglio arrete.
    Viva tata maccarone
    Ca rispetta la religione,
    Giacubbine jate a mmare
    Ca v'abbrucia lu panare.
    Sona sona
    Sona Carmagnola
    Sona li cunzigli
Viva 'o rre cu la famiglia.

Редко встретишь песню с настолько сильным, и во многом актуальным для всех стран текстом. Определенно, неаполитанцев есть чем гордиться.

I have been going to sleep to this for about half a year now. Works really well when you want to dream about the rightful ruler of the kingdom of the Two Sicilies, and about what nerds the Savoyans are. Thanks!

Well, I support Il Regno delle Due Sicilie completely and the basic sentiment of this song is correct. The Jacobins were evil in both France and Napoli but not all the "Lords" supported them. Who do you think were in the King's court and confidence? Who do you think financed the counter-revolutionaries with their riches? And some of us suffered even years later. I had a great-uncle assassinated by the forces of darkness from the North. Some of us lost everything and were also forced to emigrate and we became "common" people in our adopted lands.

The middle tier brought about the revolution, YES the Lords.
Monarchy never fell, it was betrayed.

This song sung by a humble popular, mocked by the French revolution with "sona sona carmagnola" and against the Neapolitan Republic supported by the spread in Europe of the Franco-Napoleonic It was successfully opposed between May and June 1799 by the army of "Santa Fede", "the Sanfedisti" and the humble populations

Thanks for sharing this recording, and especially the translation! Could you let us know the title and painter of the painting used? Or at least which harbor is being depicted in it? Thanks in advance, and keep up the good work! 🙂

Such painting shows the harbour of Naples (mid 18th). You can see the impressive medieval ( end 13th - 14th century) Maschio Angioino Castle ( Angevine Donjon Castle), built by the Royal French d' Anjou dynasty, also called Castelnuovo [ Chateau Neuf ] to the right side . It was rebuilded up after his pulling out because of siege by the Catalan Alphonse I King of Aragon , in his way to conquest of Naples, defeating the Angevine King completely. In The midddle of painting is The Royal Palace built during The Spanish Habsburgic rule ( Early 16th till early 18th centuries). Restored and enlarged in the mid of 18th by King Charles III of Bourbon Spain, first founder of Royal Dynasty of Bourbon of Naples and Sicily ( after Congress of Wien [1815] the Royal Family and Kingdom was renamed Bourbon of Two Sicilies).
King Charles III , became King of Spain after his father Philip V ' s death. He gave to his son Ferdinand IV the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily , splitting it completaly from the Kingdom of Spain. After Charles III the Spanish bench was continueted by the other son , Charles IV. AS REGARDS THE PAINTER J DO NOT REMEMBER HIS NAME.J AM NOT SURE IF IS A PAINTING OR ANONIMOUS GUACHE .
