LOAD REJECTED The MEGALODON load!!!

  • Rise and shine Good morning everyone! Today we had probably one of the biggest loads ever recorded for one customer. A residential customer at that! This customer ended up living off of a main Highway with no side streets And no place to safely offload the vehicle. the customer or the shipper did not even offer A police escort 😑😑😑 for our safety. The craziest thing is that when you place an order there is supposed to be a questionair to ask the customer qualifying questions, now we don't know exactly what the questions are but the people who sent us there knew what was going to be on this order and how much material it was going to be in the address before we knew. Someone from the shipper could have checked it out.

I've worked in the building materials industry as yardman, loader, delivery driver and now an IT position for a company which actually owns a few of the businesses you deliver for. What I can't seem to figure out is why your dispatcher doesn't pull addresses up on Google maps and check out the area to determine what kind of truck to send load on. It blows my mind. It's so simple and a common practice.

Similar to the IT industry. Always went in PRIOR to the job and scoped it out. Do they have insulation in the ceiling, what kind of network are they running? If my company did a SOW blindly we'd lose a ton of $$$. For a brief moment of insanity I took a Solar job (lasted 6 months, soul sucking), we would use Google Maps to see if the prospect asking for solar had enough space on their roof for the panels, one while very cool and friendly, had a rusted out roof, it took me 15 seconds to get that information.

Home Depot Deliveries have ALWAYS been Curbside Delivery. It is in Bold Print on ALL copies of the Delivery paperwork. The Customer even SIGNS understanding that the Delivery is CURBSIDE. A friend of mine years ago did deliveries for Home Depot. On several occasions, he brought the Customer order back to the Store, because they wanted the Driver to place it elsewhere.

I delivered signs to a PGA event... took one look at the narrow ass driveway flanked by 3 foot deep ditches, and I already knew that 53 foot trailer behind me was NOT gonna be able to successfully chase the tractor without catching the ditch and laying down. Told the customer to offload me on the road, he did, and now I'm permanently uninvited from delivering anything for the PGA. Not that big of a loss, IMHO. It was literally 2 pallets in a whole ass 53' trailer. I was literally 99.999% sailboat fuel, that's how empty that trailer was once loading was finished

Sometimes you will face this kind of situation. Sounds like to me they could have attempted to deliver in smaller load with multi trips so void this kind of situation. Spent over 40 years in the freight industry. Drove everything from a 2 wheel push cart to 18 wheeler With 53 foot dry box & everything in between, including refrigerated, tank, flatbed, container, & stagecoach. Even had to park my truck & drive the desk supervising drivers when boss had to be away for any reason. Now thankfully retired. If any of my drivers had pulled the stunt that driver did he would have been fired on the spot. While driving the desk I had full authority to do anything except sign checks. The driver in the clip violated the first safety rule of flat bedding. NEVER, FOR ANY REASON, THROW THE HEAVY HOOK END OF A CARGO STRAP OVER THE LOAD. IF ANYONE HAPPENS TO WALK PAST THE TRUCK ON THE OTHER SIDE, THAT FLYING HOOK WOULD KILL HIM IF HE HAPPENED TO BE HIT ON THE HEAD. ALWAYS ROLL STRAPS WITH THE HOOK ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE ROLL. THEN HOLD THE HOOK WHILE THROWING THE SOFT ROLL OVER THE LOAD. If the tail end of the strap happens to bump the person's head it might knock his hat off, but cause no injury. If using chains instead of straps, we ALWAYS walked the top of the load. Either carry chain & drop an end over each side, or have a second man walk along side & hand the end of chain up to where man on top could catch it with a long hook. End of rant. Stay safe out there.

You can tell a lot about a man from how clean his truck his. If it’s a mess, his life’s usually a mess. You’re argumentative but scared, you’re pessimistic but you cause the issues, get it together chunk

Wasn't that driveway big enough to do the offloading? You didn't have to sit there on the main road or is there some law or policy that prevents you from doing that?

It is 100% on the company that you worked for at this time for sending you out to residential addresses. The truck is too big. At the same time the home depot employee loading and unloading has nothing to do with anything but loading and unloading. Im sure he doesn't care about the attitude you give him.
