Virginia Port Police Try To Stop My Delivery Of Air Force Striker Fire Truck [Deliver Anyway]

  • VA Port Police higher ups get mad when we call to get paperwork issues straightened out. Because one "Captain" got mad, he wouldn't allow me to hire a Twic Escort to get on the port. I was told by VA Port Authority Police to hire a random driver (that I didn't know), (cash) to take a $1,000,000.00 fire truck with no training on how to operate my RGN or having a truck capable to detach the trailer from the goose neck. This was done to punish my company for calling to solve problems. I could not leave with the truck as there were no permits to leave once I arrived, and I couldn't stay on site until the next day. Thus I was in a bind. If the delivery wasn't made the truck would miss its voyage. I don't think they wanted that responsibility in the end. And I wasn't going to let just some random driver take the load and potentially damage or destroy it.

My uncle was a firefighter for 30 years in Florida. Back in the 2000s there was a truck that was carrying military explosives that got into an accident and had a small fire. Shut the whole interstate down on both sides for miles cause...explosives. Local Fire roll, State Troopers set up road blocks. They had to contact EOD from Patrick AFB to roll out there as well as some DoD suit. Anyway EOD said that fire had to stay on scene and hose down the munitions continously for the next 12 hours before the could assess how to proceed to handle them. State Trooper being the highest authority on scene (minus the EOD and fed) says that's not happening, he's got to get this interstate open and rolling. DoD suit says that's not happening. Pisses off State Trooper. Trooper responds something to the affect of " I have orders from the governor of the state (Jeb Bush) to get this interstate open" to which the suit replies "well his brother (President Bush) says I can keep the interstate shut down for the next 24hrs" conversation ended and fire was there for the 12hrs 🤣

I had a security guard at a gated community with a golf course see my dog sleeping in the passenger seat of my truck and try to refuse to let me on the property. We argued for about 3 minutes when I told him I'll dump the whole load at his gate then drive through his gate do my U-turn and drive back through the exit gate because I own my truck nobody's taking it from me. Then started to lift my trailer. My trailer got about 2 ft up and all of a sudden his gate opened up. When my dispatch called me I told them exactly what happened and they laughed. I moved lots of loads for the DOD, loved those loads. Rarely did I have problems. Those rare times I did I would simply remind whomever was causing a problem this is for the military. Get over whatever problem you have or I contact my contact number. The food chain for this load ultimately goes to Homeland Security. You don't want them talking to your boss. This is not a conversation you want to have. Most would then figure out to resolve the problem. On one occasion the local MP'S showed up and things got cleared up REAL FAST. Have a great day.👍🍻

Some idiot gets a bug up their butt and doesnt like the band that plays there so they want it shut down. Not understanding economics and how much those ppl attending the concert (or visiting the base) spend locally to keep smaller businesses alive. When I was stationed at Grissom AFB IN, we had an air show scheduled for the next day. The fire department was out by the taxiway shooting water high in the sky with two truck mounted nozzles. For some reason, a helicopter decided to fly thru the spray, which caused him to flame out, and make an immediate emergency landing. The first truck left, and a second truck came out for the emergency.

Thanks for the footage. I don't drive a rig even though I wanted to when I was younger. You drove a route that I've driven most of my life. You actually drove right by my office at one point. I walk over an overpass frequently and watch the traffic on the interstate. I travel the tunnels and bridges you drove through and over frequently. Glad you didn't get stuck in one of the tunnels. You arrived at one of the busiest ports on the East Coast. My husband drives by it frequently on his trip to work and home. It was interesting to see it from a trucker's view. Portsmouth is one of the rudest cities in VA when it comes to authority. I prefer the rural communities. Sorry for the bad treatment. Glad you were able to find some decent people who helped you. I pray over the interstate travelers because it's crazy out there. You're braver than I am to drive a rig.

It was even there before the Flying J on the opposite side (back when Pilot and Flying J were separate companies). In addition, where you're turning right was the original intersection itself with a traffic light and everything. On the Original Pilot/Love's side it was a pain because cars would be trying to turn left out of the Car Parking literal feet from the traffic light itself. That is part of the reason why they overhauled that entire intersection / area to how it's setup now.

@@thanors2 If you don’t have a TWIC or it’s expired you don’t get in. I can’t speak for Norfolk but the ports in NC will require you to get out and go in their office and check your identity and then issue you a temporary pass which gets you in the gate. After dropping your equipment/ personnel you must turn the temporary pass back in as you go out the gates.
The closest TWIC office from me to get a pass is a 120 mile round trip and you must have an appointment before you go.
We transport a lot of military equipment/ personnel from bases to ports to be put on ships and it’s always a hassle because most drivers don’t have a TWIC card. Whoever the officer in charge is has to accompany the driver to the port security office and wait for the driver’s security check to go through before going into the gate. Security at ports is higher than the security on many military bases.

Well I was in the Internationl mining equipment business and my guess is written into the sales contract a clause of if in your case the fire truck misses the boat the seller/manufacturer doesn’t get paid or looses the sale completely. Because it might be a hole year until another boat shows up that’s able to take it to it’s final destination. So some higher ups get nervous and the phone dialing begins. Our company did this all the time in different ways. A machine was supposed to load out of LA Long Beach but it wasn’t finished yet so we would track the ship up the west cost then finally load out of Seattle, or a machine would have to ship out of the East cost or gulf cost, anyway you look at it, it has to make the boat , period, or we don’t get paid. Also on top of loosing the machine order was the accompanying parts order along with the machine or machines, so there was a lot of money on the line. Been their done that. Bottom line money , the truck doesn’t make the boat the sale is none grada. I love to watch physics in action of S--T flows downhill and payday is on Friday. I’ve had to deal with a lot of this type of stuff in my life and still do occasionally now that I’m retired. I know how to play the game it’s easy just go to the vary top person in charge and politely explain the situation, then sit back and watch things happen 👍👍😂🤪🤪🥃🥃👍

I wasn't my line of work, I was raised up on Caterpillar, was what I enjoyed working on.
Cab overs were the thing back then. Your interior looks good, The only thing I found a little difficult to deal with as you know, The amount of compacted wiring behind
all those gauges and switch's,. one wire comes lose, undone, what a de-boggle it was
at times dealing with it. We had internationals Macks, Fords, and what all any more now I don't recall, of course Peter built. Although I operated Heavy Equipment, I also dove low boys
off and on while in the Army. That was in between when they had nothing else for me to do.
I returned to the engineers, went back to the dirt work.
I shipped a lot of dozers, 657 scarpers and 666 scarpers up and down the CA free ways.
CA cured me of having any desire driving big rigs on the free way in CA. I was with
Being a HDR/W Mechanic welder. we moved dirt.
We always helped loaded and secured the loads, dozers and the like. Get it on, get it off,

and off. The Lord Bless you and yours

From watching Ron Pratt driving one of them big crane wreckers trucks. He has shown some times they pull way ahead of the crash, so they can talk to the other first responders on site to make sure its safe to grab the trucks, so the troopers can get all the info that is needed and stuff like that. The troopers sometimes have them back up on the shoulder to the site... I think that is what the big wrecker was doing when it stopped by the car when most likely it was there for the semi, but couldn't get over in time in a safe way to the accident.

Its no different here in Australia. Had 11 M1A Abrhrams tank turbines on B double going to QLD had to be on site at 12.30 not fifteen minutes earlier. Not fifteen minutes later. We do that with 2 trucks sitting waiting for an hour and a half as to where they to go. 1700 klms on time only to be fucked around by jumped up Johnny,s in security uniforms.

I could have watched the camera view looking forward over the cab all day. Nice view of twin stacks and a good song to go with it. I have 4 things in common with this video. I spent the first 10 years of my life in Portsmouth, I drove a cab over on my first long distance trucking job, I have been through that scale many times, and I hauled a few loads of asphalt to the tunnel when they paved the inside. Good video as always. Stay safe and thanks for taking us with you. Also, I know only too well the problems that can be encountered at shipping or receiving. Retired now and not missing certain aspects of trucking. That was some good detective work you did to get that truck delivered.

As I remember it the Flying J was on the Southwest side of the interchange. Petro was on the Northeast side. I don't remember Mr Fuel being there. Pilot was on the southeast side. Love's came in there about 2004, when the Pilot/Flying J merger happened and Pilot had to divest a bunch of their truck stops.

I waited for like 2 hours until they was like oh hey u gotta go way over there. I was like hell thanks for wasting my time. I get there guard's won't let me in. And refused to take the load. I was like ok bye I am outta here. Hmm they blocked me from leaving. I said ok u refusing to unload me cause I was minutes late due to the guard shack telling me where to go. And I waited for a very long time until I was told to go there. I said I will be leaving. They blocked me from leaving. Lucky I have numbers and a agency arrived and people was in trouble. I had electronic devices TV's stereos cellphones and other things. They was trying to get the load to themselves and clear it out that the load never arrived to steal the products. We ended up taking the load back.

Flying J was bought out by Pilot about now 3yrs ago. They gradually started transitioning the stops all to Pilot. My son worked the fuel desk at one in Missouri during the worst of Covid-19 outbreak. We just live across border in Iowa and he had to have papers to cross the border to go to work. When Pilot took over they booted all the help that was already there down to positions that had fewer hours and hired new to fill the hours so only admins had full time and they saved by not having as many people with benefits. My son left to work at a different job.
So if the service took a dive now you know why.

Base police took me all the way through base, out back side, around the base and brought me in on left side of barrier where I was. Same guards came out and did the inspection. He looked back at the load of logs, eyeing the chains and binders, then he looked back at me and asked "Where you goin with that big load of logs, boy?"
I nodded, indicating the highway in front of me and said "Right down there to Jim Smith's sawmill" he rolled his tobacco from one side to the other and spat, and looked up and said "Yea, I know ... I've been watchin you all morning." Then he squinted at me kinda hard-like and asked me again "You sure you're 16, boy?" ... I lied again, and then he opened his eyes a little and I thought I seen a hint of humor, when he threw his left hand up and said "Well, alright ... You be careful boy ... I'll be watchin"
