Thank god Charlie is ok. I always laught at the personalities in the shop.
Yes, we're all thankful he is, poor guy!
And haha I do too!
Great to hear that Charlie is getting better. My little Teddy Bear puppy “Teddy” just was in the doggie hospital for 2 days and is home now and recuperating. As always another fantastic build.
Awe I hope Teddy is doing well too! I used to have a dog named Teddy when I was younger too, awesome name 😁
And thanks, Thomas!
Excellent work. Dad's boys did learn 👏🙌
Good job guys. Nice to see young men carrying on the craft!
Yes, we agree! Thanks James!
Poor Charlie! I’m glad he’s ok!
The door looks beautiful !
Us too!!!!!
And thanks Karen!
Poor Charlie, hope he feels better. Really nice door too.
Thanks Fred! He's already feeling better!
Oh puppppperrrrr! Heal up lil doggo! That door is phenomenal also! 10/10!
Thank you so much Gabriel!!
And Charlie is! 😊
Poor Charlie! I'm glad he's on the mend!
Us too! Thanks Ronda!
Beautiful door turned out great with the red logo epoxy inlay! Hope the client will send pics of the previous items that are already installed! No more whole potatoes for Charlie only mashed ! 😊 so glad you got him medical treatment quick and they were able to get the blockage taken care of , hope he has a speedy recovery and gets back to the shop soon, 🐶👋
Thank you so much!
Yes, mashed potatoes only from now on haha.
And yes, we are so glad he's okay!
Silly Charlie! Glad he is on the mend!
Us too!
Dimples loves the camera and the camera loves him.
Haha yes!
@@BlackForestWoodCo dimples blocked me on IG and let me tell you I cried for a few hours
Fabulous door, excellent work as always. Can I say that many years ago when I was in joinery , we had to mortise and tenon all our doors and frames together and wedged as well. Just ask Brad, I'm sure he can remember the days. Plus we had to double hinge the top of the door. Dowels are so much easier! I think you Guys must own a big share in the Titebond factory, wow that is a lot of excess glue. Thanks again for another great vid. Get well soon Charlie, we all miss you. Cheers,Michael.
Would love to see some of your milling process too. Excellent work.
Will do! Thanks Travis!
As always great craftmanship!
Thank you!!!
The door is spectacular. I like the logo and the colors.
Thank you!! Us too!
Thank you for sharing everything the door is beautiful.God bless you all.
Thank you Jean 😊😊
Poor Charlie, glad he is doing better and hope the rest of you are doing great as well. Another funny and informative video, thanks for all of the work in creating such great videos and good to see how busy you all are. A river cast would be great or even something that looked like stained glass.
He is thankfully, and we're all doing good as well!
A river or stained glass would look beautiful! Hopefully we'll at least do one of those in the near future!
Thanks for watching!
Oh poor, poor Charlie! He will certainly be on the mend soon🐾💕
He is already! Thanks Josie!
Feel better Charlie. Xoxoxo
Thank you! He's doing a lot better 😁
You guys make some gorgeous doors. I like that you do screw everything in. Agreed nailing a door together is so 1960's.
Thanks John!
You guys are doing a awesome awesome job love your work Nathasha De Beer.
Charlie is the cutes ever looks like a teddy bear 🧸

Thank goodness Charlie is okay! we miss him! so cute!
That door is insane! Great job. Poor Charlie, our dog did the same thing. I’m glad he’s gonna be up x moving soon. 🐶♥️
Get better soon Charlie! Oh yeah... cool door too.

Epic job guys, absolutely savage job thanks for sharing, can’t believe you blared out Charlie’s Wiley lmao.......what’s the word coming too.......great work guys👍👍👍👍🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪👍👍👍☘️☘️☘️
Hahaha I didn't think people would want to see that!
Thank you!!
Thanks for this video. Any plans to show the design phase? WOuld love to see how you come up with the design and the work that goes into programming the cnc.
Yeah we can definitely do a video like that!
Get well Charlie.
Thanks Rebecca! He's all healed up now luckily!
I have a friend that lives in Nebraska and I am going to try to get him to stop by DRC. I don't know when he will be able to but he is a fan of BFWC. Sorry to hear about Charlie - get better buddy. That door is amazing - stay safe.
That would be awesome, if he does let us know what he thinks!
He's doing a lot better already! Thanks so much Robert, you too!!
Awesome door! Get better Charlie!
Thanks so much!
Blurred out puppy bits 🤣 Awesome video. Great build. Beautiful door!
Hahaha, I figured people probably don't want to see that
Thanks so much Jeremiah!
It's really nice to know the price and what goes into items. I can aspire to buy or make one myself. One day maybe.
One day!!
And thank you, we try to be open with everything we do!
So is Charlie on 'light duty' and receiving workers comp??? Door came out great.
Of course!! Haha, thank you!!
glad to hear charlie is ok which means that he is a baked potato
Haha, us too!
Hey Dylan and crew,
That door looks like a million bucks! Awesome results.
Oh, Charlie, I do hope you get better quickly and get back to helping out in the shop. No more potatoes for you.... and be careful with corn cobs lying around, they can be fatal for a dog.
Hi from Australia 😊
Thanks for the tips Carleen haha!
And thank you! We're really happy with this door!
@@BlackForestWoodCo
You are most welcome for the tips, Dylan. I've seen firsthand the anguish of a person who has nearly lost a beloved pet from gut blockages - I used to work as a groomer at a vet.
🐕😊
Thanks for the door video! Amazing as always! Questions:
-Does the gasket tape stick better to the wood or you just don't stain there because it will never be seen and wastes time/material?
-Do you provide the client with stain in case the glass/mouldings do need to be replaced in the future? Or because of shelf life etc you rely on your skills (or other craftsman for remote projects) to match the stain/sheen in the event of a repair in the future?
-Is there a reason why the screws are sunk in 3-4 bursts instead of just going slower speed and constant drive start to finish? Or is it just personal preference of the person using the impact?
-Is it important that the dowels used are the same species as the door. Is harder or softer species a problem?
I live in alberta and love your videos! I have a van i'm renovating/converting (live edge) and cant stop thinking what you guys could do with it. You guys could totally dip your youtube toes into vanlife algorithm.
That's a cool idea actually!
Thanks for watching Travis!!
@@BlackForestWoodCo Just think of me when you want a van to practice with haha
@@travisr1720 Haha we will!
Poor Charlie, get well soon.🐶🇬🇧
Thanks David! 😊
Beautiful work as always guys ❤
From looking at the finished work, I see no difference in the staining around the logo and door/ frame. Beautiful.
So glad Charlie is recovering. I love that guy 💕
Time to temp change the # to
#Mashed_potatoes_only_Charlie ❤
I'm sure I'll be the bad guy here. Glad Charlie is ok, but in all honesty I've personally had enough of Charlie period.
@@ronallen6578 - well, I started subscribing due to their great work.
Being an amateur worker in table renovation, these guys guys have a lot to tell.
About Charlie - I love that guy. Personaly - I think he brings a great thouch to BF.
Qouting 'Diry Harry':
Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one 😂
I wonder if I might as a question. With such a high end expensive door set why do you not use the best joinery technique of wedged mortise and tenon joint , a much superior method than dowelling , for your doors which makes the properties of the adhesive irrelevant . I imagine that it cannot be cost. I am a retired cabinet maker and greatly enjoy your videos of resin/ wood table manufacture, a branch of woodworking I never encountered in my long career.
LMAO
@@daveklein2826 I wonder if you could explain your comment . I am a senior and do not understand the acronym.
What stain are you using on the maple?
Outstanding video, guys!!! Thanks for letting us see a custom door build. Glad Charlie is OK. Does the Vaseline cause issues when it gets on the surface of the wood? Thanks for a great video!!!
Thanks so much John! We're glad Charlie is too!
And no it doesn't cause any issues, if it stains it we can just sand it down a little
Great job on the build of the door! My only concern is the length of the screws in the door hinges, considering the door is solid maple and very heavy ? Nonetheless, Great Job.....Love seeing that kind of work!!!!!! Very exciting 😃
Wow
😁
Thanks for sharing the price of the door. Can you say how much of that is in the costs of the wood/ And glad Charlie is ok. Take care of the lil' dude!
It was probably around $10,000 (can't remember exactly haha
And us too, he's recovering well thankfully! Thanks Jason!
What kind of exterior varnish did you use on this door?
What brand are those hinges
I'm sure Charley is looking forward to getting back in the shop and wetting the legs to the equipment. He is probably well behind in his work.
Get well soon Charlie-boy...
Thank you!! He's doing much better already!
Great to hear Dylan.... Bet YOU guy's missed him about the shop. Keep up the good work my friend. (y)
Glad Charlie’s ok, did Jon ever tell you what our past golden retriever ate? 😂 dogs are so fun lol. Once again though GREAT work guys!!
No he didn't haha what did he eat?
Thanks Patricia!!!
@@BlackForestWoodCo hahaha 7 full kinder surprise eggs! Whole!! We still have all the toys 😂 they were still in the yellow shells.. yah age 13 and not any brighter, thankfully we had him for 2 more years after that❤️best dumb dog ever
@@patriciastraub5786 Hahaha oh my god, I'm glad he was okay from that! But yeah, dogs are not always the brightest!
What kind of finish do you use.for the door? I have been refinishing solid wood doors in alabama that get direct sunlight. Would love some advice
We used Osmo's Exterior UV-Protection Oil over a stain
blackforestwood.com/products/uv-protecion-oil?_pos=4&_sid=49060da8e&_ss=r&variant=9604303323172
@@BlackForestWoodCo thank you a million times over. I'll give it a shot. Hopefully when. Things open up I'll make my way up to see y'all and buy some slabs :). Thanks again. Ttyl
So sorry about Charlie. It is a wonder dogs do not have more issues with things they eat. I have a question for you. What finish do you use on you doors to protect them this video showed a stain, but there has to be something else. Varnish? Polyurethane? Or epoxy?
Beautiful work, will the sun or temperature affect the resin at all or over time?
It's a North facing door so it shouldn't get too much sunlight and our resin has UV protectors in it so should be fine!
And the temperature won't affect it since it's fully cured
Have you guys tried Inkscape software to convert JPEG files to DXF files. It's free and I have had good luck with it - many times not having to redraw.
Are all of your rails and stiles laminated and then planed to final thickness? Awesome looking door!
Yes! Thanks Drake!!
so a tip for you don't know if it wood work for you "pun intended" lol but back years ago if one surface of a unit was not getting as dark as the rest of the stain i would let the stain settle not stir it up then scrape some pigment off the bottom of the can and mix it with a little bit of liquid stain just a small amount so it goes on quite a bit darker then recoat to darken or wipe more off to lighten until desired shade is achieved sprayed and wiped a few k gallons of stain back in the day lol PS glad the puppy is ok good news PSS are some sealed glass units susceptible to break downs of the seals if silicone is used on them just seems to be something that rings an old bell in my head not sure if it rings true these days just a thought maybe something to double check just in case ???!!!!!??@!?
Nice unit 👍
Do you use the CNC machine for the styles and rails or do you use a shaper. I've built a lot of doors using a shaper because of lack of a CNC machine.
We used to do it without the CNC but using the CNC makes the production so much faster for us!
The Vaseline jokes in my head are spinning out of control.
By the way, that door is beautiful!
Haha thank you!
have you ever done a burl wood resin front door? Is it even possible?
Not yet but that would be very cool
I’m first. Hi charlie
Hey Larry! Thanks for commenting first!
Do not feed poutine to dogs. At the start I froze when you said something happened to Charlie. Good to see that all the little puppies at the shop are happy and busy.
Nice door too.
We didn't give him poutine haha just steak and potatoes (which we will mash from now on)
Thanks Scott!
A POTATOE?! Come on Charlie WTH lol Glad he's going to be okay
Hahaha I know, we couldn't believe it was just because of a potato. Hopefully, he'll learn he needs to chew from now on haha
my daughter's dog did the same thing with a potato--he is doing well too
Yes, apparently it's actually fairly common, that's what one of the doctors said. So that's very good to know from now on!
Glad he's also doing good!
Poor Charlie 😥
I know!!
Beautiful door. I’d love one but that price tag is a little out of my range.
I’m not religious but maybe god will be looking to upgrade his pearly gates with a door from you guys.
Hahahaha maybe!
how about a river door?
It would look stunning!
Oh, Charlie! I'm glad you are going to be ok you old potato head.
Hahaha, us too!!
Does Charlie have sick days?
This week he did haha
I guess I should have mentioned that the door looked fantastic too.
What kind of stain are you using. Maple has a bad history of blotching.
It was an Osmo stain and I believe Ben mixed a few colours to get the colour the client asked for!
And yes, it does! But we're lucky Ben is a great finisher who made it look perfect!
Black Forest cake update video
We will show it as soon as it's worth filming, right now it looks basically the same!
@@BlackForestWoodCo also when you get a chance could you share the sanding speeds/rate and grit for the belt sander machine.
House rental: $1500 a day?
Who cares about the door? It's Charlie we're worried aboot (notice Canadian accent).
Well, we hope at least the client cares about the door!
Charlie is doing good though, hopefully, he'll learn to chew his food now on haha
that door is not 17k, and people wonder why things become inflated by time,,, f---ing greedy people. I would love to hear the sales pitch hahahahaha
mashed potatoes
Yes, from now on haha
For the love of god not the clamp handles!!! That has busted knuckles written all over it
$17000 for that door and frame???
Someone got ripped off!!!
why would you redraw the jpeg file if most programs can automatically trace vector lines from a jpeg photo & all you have to do is clean up the contrast & send file to a gcode program for the cnc to cut. if you actually drew that from scratch lmao.
That's what he meant haha
shame about Charlie...just for future reference...that cone is referred to "the cone of shame"......puppy dogs actually are embarrassed having to wear one :)
Haha I know, we feel bad for him but he has to wear it so he doesn't lick his staples and possibly pull one out or get it infected. Poor guy 😐😐
What a shame about the screws.... Traditionnal joinery would make it worth it's money and actually strong.
LMAO WHAT A STUPID COMMENT
Get well soon Charlie.
Thanks Greg!
