- The WDR BIG BAND features tenor saxophonists Ada Rovatti, Bob Malach, Paul Heller and Bob Mintzer with the tune "The Square" (K. / A.: Bob Mintzer). Recorded live as part of the concert "THE FOUR TENORS" at the Philharmonie in Cologne on June 3, 2021.
The fact that Bob Mintzer was appointed principal conductor of the WDR BIG BAND in the summer of 2016 is a blessing for the band in two respects. For the American is not only one of the most distinguished arrangers of orchestral jazz, he is also an extremely talented improviser on the tenor saxophone. Together with Paul Heller, the longtime tenor saxophonist of the WDR BIG BAND, he forms the basis of the saxophone summit "The Four Tenors". This quartet of soloists is completed by the Italian Ada Rovatti and the American Bob Malach, two other renowned representatives of this field.

The WDR big band is incredible. Mintzer is incredible. Bob Malach is the man. I didn't know Paul Heller but he sounds great. Finally, my mother said if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Doesn't sound square at all. If there's a square in or around the WDRBB, we've yet to find him.
I understand what you are saying and totally agree.
But a square is also a classic shape with four equal sides and four right angles.
Ada, the two Bobs and Paul can already form a so-called _hollow square,_ a _carré d'infanterie,_ only that they're armed with saxophones instead of rifles. Don't forget the Appellhofplatz either!
