The BIO TIME TRAVELING MIMIC Abilities Explained

- As meteors touch down all over the Europe, humanity quickly becomes overwhelmed by a species that appears sentient, but at the same time, they also behave like a hive. As this species overwhelms Earths defense force, that being humans, one man is exposed to an event that allows him to be taken out, but come back to life the day previous to learn from the events that come later. As it becomes clear it has something to do with species blood and the hive mind, he learns how to survive before ultimately going after the leader. I am writing this massively hungover so if that doesnt make any sense, just watch the video lol. Anyhow lets discuss how this works!

"Humanity has a thirst for connection with potentially other species"
In the case of Roanoke and Tali, there's an emphasis on thirst.
I mean
Mood.
And anglerfish..
Not even 3 minutes in and Roanoke has already mentioned Tali from Mass Effect being best girl, him being swoll af and the U.N being useless.
Hes nothing if not consistent!
He's not wrong either about Tali.
lol
also Angler Fish! (bit later than 3 minutes bit still it in here!)
Asari for flexibility, Quarians for personality!
not even a minute
They left them helmetless because they needed the actors' faces to sell the movie. The manga has them wearing helmets. Kinda like how in Mass Effect you can choose to keep the helmets on during cinematics, for more realism, or have them off so you can see the Giga Chad face you made for your character.
They couldn't have just Iron man'd that shit?
I just used the default make face I don’t know if that’s gigachad
I should go.
In the movie it is explained why the actors don't wear a helmet, it is because the helmet dispute their vision and I'd much of a problem in battlefield than an advantage.

The aliens in edge of tomorrow are my favorite because they feel super alien. I think there was a deep dive video about them explaining how they nailed the design
The whole movie especially the aliens blew my mind, it was like a breath of fresh air to me. I still need to track down the magna, just to see the difference between the two.
Remind me somewhat of the Slaught and Rangdan from Warhammer 40k quite unique looking and dreadful in biotechnologies
@@a.r.h9919 I read the manga a while back and it kinda sucks. Imo the movie was better. Like every aspect.
Yea, they mentioned that they didn't want the alien species to look like traditional aliens but had a hard time making them seem somewhat relatable while maintaining the mysterious/ambiguous aspect of their nature. Quite an interesting watch.
@@poorlydigitallydrawngigachad In what ways do you think the movie is better?
Will went from a flat out coward to a soldier Master Chief would acknowledge.
Idk if I'd call him a straight up coward cause I'm sure there's a lot of people who wouldn't be prepared to be thrown into war. Especially without training. But he did become a great soldier
His adapting capability given the situation is what made him the Perfect counter to fight these aliens.
You really don't realise the extent of your own abilities until you are forced to deal a circumstance requiring you ditch your comfort zone.
Cage went from an ordinary person to a straight up impossible to beat temporal super weapon.
Like the Chief, within the bounds of the story, was just well equipped, properly supported and skilled enough to get through the challenges he faced. If the Chief actually had the canon power that Cage has or if even it was just Cage waking up woke up on the Pillar of Autumn you’d see the covenant fleet exploding over the halo, the flood obliterated while they were still sitting in a bunch of fancy forerunner test tubes and high charity burning before the humans or the covenant really knew what was happening.
The ability to reroll every choice you make till you get a natural 20 is ludicrously OP.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 organic Time travelers sounds just as disturbing as an organic transformer
How would a organic transformer even work
Realising they’re both 😳
We already have organic transformers
Organic Transformers exist. You ever seen a pacific octopus mimic a rock? They can alter their skin's shape and texture, let alone its color, to perfectly mimic one. There could be one on the couch next to you mimicing a pillow.
@@justsomejerseydevilwithint4606 can they transform into a truck?
I believe they explained in the movie why they lack armor, or at least a helmet. It's pretty much any direct hit from a mimic punches through any armor they have. Sure, the helmet can protect against shrapnel or glancing blows but the lack of vision is more of a hindrance as they need to avoid direct hits from mimics
Do I hear the Helldiver soundtrack in the background or is that just DEMOCRACY calling me again.
yes you do. The militaries of the world will use it in future recruitment campaigns to subconscious HYPE the humans :P
I came here looking to see if anyone else would mention this.
It's the democracy brother
@@ForestRaptorWell once it gets to the point where the military doesn't have to actually set foot on the battlefield at all anymore and instead send drones, robots & mechs while they pilot them from a chair in the safety of their base or homes then yeah, probably be a great idea to use the music from popular games.
Especially ones where people have to cooperate to win battles.

You could say they orchestrated their planet-hopping success by using the time reversing ability. Basically, picking different parts of the planet to start on and adjusting asteroid routes over and over again until they hit earth.
Imagine how many millions of times time looped during the cataclysm until the dice rolled just right for them to survive in the chunks of the planet

2:03 that Akira skit was Pure Gold 😂😂 , this film is so underrated, one of Tom Cruises best.. It's up there for sure.
2014 was such a good year for movies I general.
It helps that Tali looks close enough to human. Most people dont want to get it on with a xenomorph looking alien.
I think thats more due to the bloody, murdery nature of the Xenos not their weird looking bodys.
Then again....I mean people also love Yandere which is basically the same only with anime tiddies
@@Franky_StheinI think it’s a mixture of both, people might have a easier time ignoring the murderus personality of yandere because they look good while that’s not true for the xenomorphs. Now if the xenomorphs had a more likeable nature more people might find them attractive even if they look the same. For example Garrus and Vetra in mass effect, I wouldn’t call them conventionally attractive if you judge them by human standards. But people like them because they have a likeable personality.
@@verozety4040I don't know this Vetra but Garrus...yeah he is not my type but I get what you mean.

The cool thing about the movie is that it partially uses dynamic movement for the cgi of the aliens, what was revolutionary at the time where it was made.
Papa Roanoke has dropped new lore. From watching your videos I’ve started saying “stay strapped or get clapped” and “lock and load brides of Christ” at work. Love you dude
"Stay strapped or get clapped," is becoming one of my personal Maxims to live by... t'has become almost as prominent as "Slow is smooth and Smooth is fast."
I myself found myself “Humanity Number 1, all other species get dunked on.”
For the ending, here's what I think, we're just observing the "Alpha Timeline" this is the Omega's and our main character's perception of events as they occur. This is the chess game that we see playout in the movie. It's only when the game is complete, everyone else is unaware of a game was even being played. It was just chance that he acquired the Alpha blood, this can't really be fixed by the Omega.
In case anyone wants this but crazier look up the light novel/manga this is based on called All You Need Is Kill
You have little arms sprouting out of your little arm is a haunting and brilliant explanation.
The most interesting thing from this video is that Tom Cruise has played so many iconic characters that Roanoke is just referring to him by his character's name instead of another character he's well known for
Let be honest Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise no matter what he plays.😊 What I love about him though is that it doesn't take you out of the story, he looks like he's always belonged to those worlds.
Roanoke is really just prepping us for the great ski riding angler war to come.
Dude, genius cheese movie! Anglers attack with robo limbs on ski's.
OMG finally Papa Roanoke analysis of Edge of Tomorrow! being waiting so long for this and is so worth it, the funny summary, the scientific/biological aproch of the aliens, the attemps to explian time travel, cars, trauma bonding and his phobia of the angler fish, this is an absolute win!
I LOVE the lore in this movie! Particularly how the Mimic Omega knows that giving the humans the idea that they CAN win is the key to the humans defeat!
Then, the general being told he isn't now and never will be mentally equipped to fight the Omega, just for him to ignore that and continue his failing strategy... *Chef's kiss*
Ok, you playing "A cup of liber-tea" has subliminal made me boot up helldivers
Omg I've been wanting you to make an analysis of this movie! I love it so much, and your overviews are always so fun. Thanks for the hard work 🙏
this movie was based on a Japanese light novel called "All You Need Is Kill" where the jacket armor actually was a powered armor with full face mask but hollywood wanted their actors faces to be always visible resulting in the retardo version in the movie.
I mean, I get it why there did it. Gotta sell the movie somehow. It's not like the novel very popular in west that will attract a lot people watch this movie based on the popularity alone like for example Marvel, Dc, Transformers franchise etc.
Also if aren't for this movie, I wouldn't have known this was based on a Japanese novel lol.
We're all organic time travelers, though. We just happen to be traveling forward in time at a rate of one second per second.
These mimics honestly look like giant octopuses who have adapted a structure functionally equivalent to a skeleton to better resist the stronger effects of gravity on land.

Roanoke You have been extremely informative and very entertaining! I love your videos man, Also your “Rambling” is what I love the most. When you go off on tangents and end up talking about our Almonds when you started with a topic on a bear. Can’t get enough of this lol.
Words cannot describe how happy I am that you did this movie ❤😂
I feel like it more likely that quantum superposition along the time axis is being utilized as information is sent to the past version of the organism. The end could be the case that the omega’s dead state is as sent back in time through Tom cruse’s character. This then could have have overlapped the currently alive version causing a deadly feed back loop as it was actively trying to loop into the future rather than past offing itself in the process
Remember kids, if at first you don't succeed, constant targeted harassment campaigns work wonders instead. It only took me more than 30 videos of pestering in the comments to finally get what I wanted.
Fun video. I honestly went to check to see if I had left the game running from the music. I recommend you read the Book it was based on "All you need is kill". They were not organisms, they are terraforming nanites that were sent to xenoform the planet. The "combat" forms we see were just a result of us the indigenous life fighting back. The temporal manipulation was just because it was so costly and expensive a project it couldnt fail etc. But not organisms, machines following their orders. Book did not have an Omega.
I just got a german commercial. It told me, I should shit every morning, so I am more productive during the day 🙂
Bro…
Ayooo love this movie so much. It was awesome to hear you crack jokes and explain this! I loved it.
Do you think you could try to cover Viking Wolf?
Not a degree holding physicist, but your explanations are some of the best I've seen on these subjects. I love all things alien and movie monsters. The videos you make are literally my dream, taking scifi and trying to make it make sense. Keep up the amazing work man
Roanoke back with another banger, your videos are the absolute best to binge at work
Edge of tomorrow, more like Edging of tomorrow. Boom!
I definitely recommend the original novel, All You Need is Kill. Much better in every catagory. The aliens are actually explained as basically nanomachine constructs intended to terraform (or I guess xenoform) Earth, started in the ocean and were basically forced to evolve into barrel bodied starfish creatures in order to fight humans and complete the terraforming. The movie really just took some of the names and most basic concepts of the plot and used them to make a pretty generic Sci-fi action vehicle for Tom Cruise.
Gosh, I LOVED the novel.
Movie is definitely not generic. Especially compare to other live action movies/series which had tried to adapt anime/manga but failed miserably.
And most importantly, this movie stands on its own which alot of movies/series struggles to making it a solid sci-fi movie.
This is why no one likes dweebs.
I wish they used the armor from the manga. "All you need is kill." They are both based on a light novel, but i liked the armor in the manga more.
Gotta sell the movie somehow.
You make amazing videos brotha!!
I have daily chronic migraines. I'm super impressed at how together you sound. In the midst of a killer migraine I sometimes forget my own name and birthdate. I would never be able to post a video on CZcams after my migraines hit critical pain level. Well done. I enjoyed the video.
Now that you've covered time travelling aliens, you can cover bioengineered kaiju created by Atlantis with the first movie in the Heisei Gamera trilogy, *Gamera: Guardian of the Universe*
This is the closest we’ve got to Roanoke covering an anime.
"You have little arms extending out your arms."
Yas, I am also armed, minus some mobility due to cuts. Those happen at work just ask someone who works. If you work you know.
I dont know why, but the fact that Roanoke acknowledged the teo best characters in mass effect as such amuses me.

Yessir it is

If you watch the movie when you dont sleep,it gets weird/like your high.
I watch it 1st when not sleeping.
I still remembered it.
FINALLY ❤ I have waited like 4 years for a Edge of Tomorrow mimic video. It was awesome. Super great job! Of just about any Sci Fi film, the concept of the Mimic has been the most fascinating to me. I loved it. I wouldn't say more to mimic theories. I haven't considered mimics coming from a water based evolution, for me it felt like they were in a constant flux of time and space so much so that they were unable to maintain a constant physical form. But your explanation makes more sense lol. Crazy how their species seemed to have evolved with such a different organism as the Omega which could manipulate time and space compared to the ant-like drones.
these vidoes always get me so interested in biology and makes me wanna study it, then i remember that all i can recall from biology class is that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell
Great video! Any chance we may see an analysis of the different types of termanids in helldivers 2?
Edge of Tomorrow! Yes! I've been waiting for this one. Love this movie.
25:00 “Or would we just be floating in space” seriously thank you for that observation
Been waiting for this movie to be covered since I found your channel!
Been waiting for this one let's go
The best way to think of this type of time travel, is a checkpoint system from a video game. It’s less time travel and more so a time jump.
The Omega has set a point in time before the invasion, the thing being able to plan ahead and fix any errors in the invasion. It’s trying it’s best to keep its best units alive, aka, it’s save scumming like in an RTS.
This is why there is no time paradox, as since it’s simply reloading an old save, there is no other time stuff going on. Just a single timeline with one save file
I don't know if there is a specific place to recomend videos but I'm gonna do it here, you should do a video on the night hunter from dying light 1
Of course I feel like dropping onto a planet and destroying some bugs I don't know why maybe the light music that goijg on there ronoake !
As always love your videos !
Great video bro
So glad you made a video! I love this movie so much
Yes, Roanoke, I also cannot get enough of the Helldivers 2 Helldive music.
Any hope for a video on Terminids?
There are a few things I wish Roanoke went over in this video. For one, the Mimics seem to be composed of obsidian crystals and have a very high internal body temperature, hence why when the alpha's blood first fell on Cruz's character it burned through his body. I can feasibly see them as having evolved underwater, but it would be interesting trying to explain the exact reason why they're crystalline in appearance and have such a high internal temperature in the first place. My theory? They're silicon based life forms with an incredibly fast metabolism, which is why they're able to move at the speeds they do and why their blood is scalding hot. It really lends to the feel of them being completely alien, almost moreso than their strange ability to hop through time Whenever they're on the brink of losing. Almost.
It's so surreal for me to watch you talk about movies I've actually already watched
I cannot wait for Roanoke to cover the Terminids. I've been analyzing them myself using stuff I've picked up from this channel (I am not a scientist) and that's been a blast, but I know the big man will blow it out of the water assuming he does it.
Been hoping you'd do a video on these ever since I first saw this movie.

Awesome video dude! I hope the next one is for the tardigrade monster from harbinger down!
5:03 More like the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I ADS, which is like Mjolnir but if it was made by Clanners.
Edge of Tomorrow is my favorite movie. Just seeing the final scene and cage's chuckle almost always gives me such a strong, good feeling.
I see what you did there in the beginning Roanoke with the Helldivers 2 music
Love your videos. But I’m sure that a lot of people, including me, would love it if you did a video about the precursors from pacific rim.
Hey Roanoke great job as aways! Why dont you make a video about the akryd from the lost planet series?
Hey Roanoke, a while ago I watched a Korean TV show on Netflix called The Silent Sea. It’s about researchers visiting an abandoned moon base and discovering water the replicates seemingly infinitely when exposed to organic material along with two or so other things that happen later on. I think it’d make for an interesting video and a fun watch for you.
32:24 i think that may be because the omega routinely "anchors" itself to a point in time, and that's what it resets to, not to "the day before" and it just so happens that was the last anchor it had placed, so when it died it may have sucessfully restarted the day with it's dying breath, however, the sensory shock of having died in the future killed the omega in the past the moment time was reset, hence the energy surge they detected.
Man when I found you Roanoke you had 80k subscribers. Now you’re almost at a million keep up the hard work brother it’s just around the corner and we’re all proud of you. I actually went to a pre-screening of this movie: the mimics were different colors(prolly changed for color blindness), and I don't recall much else off-hand other than WiP effects as this was like 2012 or something around then. Was really cool seeing that kind of stuff
The little arms sprouting out of the arms just tripped me out
It could work like copy pasting across timelines, so its not that time is actually reset, but that all tye memories of one instance are then telepathically transmitted across to another to a predetermined point. So if an onega detects an alpha dies it just downloads everything from every connected drone and alpha and forwards it to another instance of itself in an alternate timeline to try again. Like an old rts where you restart the save but now know where the spawns are each time.
Excellent content as always Roanoke! Your getting really close to 1 million subs so we can see you dominate the dogman!
