      How long have you had the battery for? Did you buy them together?
      Do you have the float indicators in place, and what is the level showing? You may have to first top up with distilled water and then check with your multimeter across each cell to get more than 2V.

    Interesting information. So, I recently got a tubular battery for a setup and during its transportation the battery leaned over and the liquid spilled. So, we rang the dealer and reported the matter and he sent electrolyte. Is this appropriate? What should be used to refill the battery, a new battery which is yet to be installed?
    I'll appreciate any and all inputs. Thanks.

    • @cdoscope
      @cdoscope Před 3 měsíci

      In your specific case, replacement with electrolyte is correct because the total volume needed to be restored. The reason only distilled water is used for top up is that it's usually the "water" part of the electrolyte that evaporates during charging, making the mixture more concentrated. Reppacement with distilled water restores the correct concentration. I hope this helps

    • @ekeretteekpo3004
      @ekeretteekpo3004 Před 3 měsíci

      @@cdoscope thank you for your reply. When the fluid arrived, it was distilled water. They have maintained that if I want to refill, it has to be with distilled water but I should use the float indicators to determine the need for a refill. So, going by the indicators, everything is green. I wish there was an all-instructions manual that would help a user to understand what to do in various circumstances.

    • @cdoscope
      @cdoscope Před 3 měsíci

      @ekeretteekpo3004 they are not quite correct. Consider the simple logic - if the battery needs say 4 liters of elctrolyte (specific mixture of hydrochloric acid and distilled water, and it spill and loses say 1 liter of that mixture, replacing the 4 liter volume of fluid with plain distilled water will certainly cause a 25% dilution of the electrolyte. In the case of loss of 1 liter volume due to evaporation, its only water that is lost, so you only need water to replace the volume.
      All in all, it's wiser to heed your warranty provider, but tell them what I wrote and listen to their explanation

    • @ekeretteekpo3004
      @ekeretteekpo3004 Před 3 měsíci

      @@cdoscope alright. I'll do just that right away.
      Edit: By the way, since the float indicators (which are also tagged "electrolyte level indicator" in the manual) show green, it should mean that the battery cells are fully topped. So, in spite of the spillage that occurred, the cells are fully topped. I wonder what will happen if I simply added distilled water. Unfortunately, I don't know the mark where the fluid level is supposed to be at.
      The reason this is a bit of a concern right now is that it appears to me as though the battery was discharging a little bit faster than I was expecting.

      After checking your setup, check with your seller or the battery manufacturer or the manual to know its specific gravity. Get a proper hydrometer and distilled water, and top up each cell with the water while checking the specific gravity to be sure it matches the manufacturer's specifications. Before this, make sure to turn off the inverter or disconnect it if you used a MCB breaker between the battery and the inverter.
      Realise that you may be undercharging and/over overdischarging your battery. CHECK YOUR SET-UP. If you can, use a MPPT controller. They are better suited for non-lithium batteries.
