    By the way, not all transformerless inverters are hybrid inverters.
    Furthermore, I would advise users who prefer or choose hybrid inverters to limit their usage to solar panels. If they would like to also use the grid supply to charge their battery backup, they should consider getting a battery charger device.

    Victron MultiPlus-II inverters, transformer based, up to 96% efficiency which actually kicks ass compared to some of the HF inverters from China. And no load power draw is lower than a HF inverter I have here too. If you abuse the load, the HF will not last long. If you respect the load, the HF will last you 5+ years for a well built one from Taiwan. But I think with the way transformer tech has improved over the years you'll find that the trusty transformer can be equally or more efficient than the HF inverters these days. But yes, I agree, those transformers are damn HEAVY!!

      When it comes to energy-efficient the heavier, the better. How do you even get support with these Aliexpress cheap inverters? With VRM, you can even get global support. Victron Energy systems are expensive for a good reason

    LF inverter has high surge capacity compared to the same sized HF inverter but LF is twice as expensive. For a 6kw LF inverter with a surge capacity of 9kw for 30min, at the same price i can get two 8kw HF inverter with 32kw surge capacity for 10seconds.

      Is it only about the surge capacity? What about the life span? And dedicated charge controller for LF Inverter. Well, I'm a Victron Energy lover, though. Because their components work and VRM is a bonus for global customer service support.

    I think you might be mixing up isolated inverters vs. non-isolated inverters. High frequency inverters run more efficiently and are lower cost and they can be built with or without an isolation transformer. I you really needed "galvanic isolation" you could add a dual active bridge and still be transformerless.

    I am always more concerned about inductive loads when installing solar inverters for client. I stay far away from high frequency inverters even though client is trying to push it forward due to the lower cost.

    But these high frequency inverters have overload protection. That should be enough to save the inverter from abuse damage? What do you think?

      Both high frequency inverters and low frequency inverters have overload protection. Without an output transformer, high frequency inverters have a much shorter life expectancy and a far poorer peak power capacity.

    The term "hybrid" doesn't mean embedded charge controller. It only means the inverter can be used in off-grid mode (i.e. "inverts" or draw energy from the battery and convert to alternating current for the use of home applicances, this is the typical scenario in Nigeria) AND it can also be used in "grid mode" (i.e. if you are producing more energy from your solar panels in excess of your need, you can sell the excess back to the grid or "NEPA" and "NEPA" pays you or adds the units to your meter). Grid mode is not presently applicable in Nigeria as we don't have the infrastructure to support it and I doubt if the electric power authority will want to adopt it as it will reduce their revenue (by breaking their monopoly on energy generation).

      A quick search on google would have told you its an inverter that combines the technology of inverting energy from the battery and solar to supply AC output. The System has a charge controller inside it to be able to harness and regulate energy from the sun for the sole purpose supplying AC energy .

    High frequency inverters offer a much shorter life expectany and a far poorer peak power capacity than a low frequency inverter. High frequency inverters can be dangerous because without an output transformer, there is no galvanic isolation between its DC boost stage and its AC output.

      Technological advancements will eventually eliminate all these limitations and that's if it has not already done so.
      HF inverters are getting way excellent than before. The advancements are way beyond imagination.
      GROWATT HF Inverter for instance is a completely Excellent Inverter.
      HF inverters have Lower burden, better Battery charging algorithms and compatibility with Lithium batteries.

      Hf inverter can have galvanic isolation through the Dc-dc convert from the PV input. The Dc-dc convert regulates the DC voltage from the PV up to the point the it can be directly converted to AC without a step up transformer. If the Dc-dc has a large enough inductor it can handle large surge loads. Any good true sin wave inverter are high frequency, it's real different is if it has a step up transformer or not.

    Let me quickly correct you on the Operating frequency, they both output the same frequency 50hz/60hz depending on the country of origin.
    At the same time, they both have high carrier frequencies despite there diverse designs.
    Wouldn't want to go into details but I know the power engineers know what am saying

      Hello Mr ikechukwu , There is a major difference between inversion frequency and final output frequency. You seem to be referring to the output frequency , to make it really simple it is usable frequency for your appliances.
      "High frequency" refers to a higher frequency range, usually between a few thousand Hz to tens of thousands Hz. A high frequency inverter refers to an inverter that performs inversion at this higher frequency range.

      ​​@@smilinsunsmilinsun8056 Hello.... You see ,both HF and LF Inverters performs there inversion using SPWM technology to achieve a sine wave.
      For the sake of clarity, let look at the LF Inverters as a Single stage system and HF inverters as a Multi-stage system.
      The HF inverters got it's name from it's first stage which is a Step-up push-pull DC-DC converter which generally runs at a high frequency mostly in the range of 20khz-100khz to achieve the desired RMS value which may vary between 300VDC-400VDC depending on the design and power rating requirements needed for the AC voltage actualization which is mostly 220VAC-240VAC.
      It's after this stage that the SPWM technology comes into play to achieve the desired 50/60hz sine wave.
      This stage runs a H-Bridge which has half of its wing switching at 50hz and the other half switching at the high modulating frequency which is later filtered out at the output using LF LC filters to recover the 50/60Hz sine wave.
      For the LF Inverters, the DC voltage is passed through SPWM circuitary before being fed to a step up transformer to achieve the 220/240VAC which will give a pure since wave after passing through a Low frequency LC filters.
      You may want look at egs002 datasheet to better get a clearer knowledge on how the both works.

      The Transformer based is more expensive than the transformerless inverter , but I understand your confusion, The transformerless with hybrid design is more exoensive than the transformer based. Hope this helps

      @@smilinsunsmilinsun8056 wow! I was thinking that the transformerless, being made of sophisticated circuitry and being of a more recent technology, would be more expensive.
      Moreover, I may be confusing which are transformer based because I am thinking the somewhat regular types (like those cigarette lighter types) are what you're referring to as transformer based. Aren't they?
      Oh! And, the existence of these transformerless variants has given me a very hopeful idea.

      High-frequency inverters are cheaper than low frequency inverters. That's why everyone is buying from Aliexpress 😂. People are only considering the price but not the quality and longevity of their investment. I'll rather spend $20k to be energy independent than spending it on a car for someone to tell me when I should have power in my house or ration power.

    I beg to differ... i stand to be corrected but there is nothing like transformerless inverter. The one popularly called transformerless just has a high frequency transformer which is smaller compared to the low frequency transformer. Without a transformer in a system, there is no isolation between the low voltage DC and the high voltage AC part.
    For the Electrical engineer, the calculation is XL=2(pi)FL so the higher the frequency, the more we can reduce the size of the transformer.

      Hello Savage, thanks for your submissions. The emphasis here is Isolated Big transformers which I also showed you a reference video to capture the visual size. Low frequency inverter uses a very big transformer which is a major difference between the two versions.
      However the High frequency inverter uses what is referred more to as chopper than a transformer, a very tiny transformer. This has informed the reason why it is globally referred to as transformerless inverter. Now it’s important that the teachings here are kept simple and devoid of complications so as not to confuse the lay man who has zero ideas about electronics and electrical fusions. So in this context a chopper can’t be exactly referred to as a Transformer as its major function is to step down the voltage in the high frequency circuit.

      What differentiates HF & LF Inverters is the amount of magnetics being used in them. To use less magnetics, the switching frequency is increased, but to handle higher surge currents the inverter must be dimensioned appropriately.

    Please learn to pronounce 'inverter' the right way - it sounds too funny 'invatter'. Anyway technically you touched nearly all important points but high-freq. inverters are keeping up if you look for good components (not the cheap chinese one out of ali&Co.)
