Listening to Leo describe the psychological aspect of his character and how it related to the era really makes me respect him…. Acting is one thing, it’s basically just being really good at playing pretend for people and mimicking behaviors in a script for a camera… But to be so in tune to the gravity of what you’re portraying is something else, and to be able to so eloquently describe it on stage in front of an audience is AMAZING to me.

Leo has come such a long way from Growing Pains, yet he possesses a humility and respect for those around him that is so admirable. Sam Jackson is classic and you just have to love his personality. I would think the best role an actor can play is something that is so far from his reality, so far from his/herself and make you believe. In the case of Sam, and Leo as well, they played their roles so well that you almost felt like they were enjoying themselves.

What needs to be said is Sam's character type would have existed in those days. A 'favoured' slave of whom the slave owners trusted to keep them informed. Someone who was given privileges to maintain that loyalty. A smart plantation owner would have tried to manipulate and facilitate that position and offer rewards for information. We would be naive to think that didn't happen. We forget, slavery lasted hundreds of years. Hundreds of years of horrible subjugation. A long time to perfect that level of manipulation to maintain the success of a plantation. As deplorable as that fact is, Tarantino is a genius. Way ahead of his time in terms of story telling and building multifaceted complex characters to portray those archetypes.
