Everyday women are put under pressure to attain the standards implemented to them in society. Society has held harsh beauty standards for women for years. As the decades go on, the standards have just gotten worse and it is becoming physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausting to adhere to these said standards. In this video, we will be discussing society's harsh beauty standards for women.

You shouldn’t feel ashamed about yourself at all honey. You are a child there is no need to grow faster. You are all beautiful and naive. Please don’t push yourself to be “beautiful” which is so nonsense everyone has a different beauty. Love yourself and live your best life at all times. Plus as the years go by society up the standards. For example, it never really was a stardard to have your nails done. We as women have the power to say no to these standards. I know plenty of women who do not adhere to them and still have great opportunities. It is your mindset and how you carry yourself that makes a difference in my opinion even if there is a truth to the pretty privilege. Women do not need to buy all these things to be beautiful anyway.

If we do to much, we are judged. If we to not enough, we are judged. Prices for beauty products are more expensive for woman then men. So it’s like society wants us to feel insecure so that we keep buying new products. I think it’s a circle.

I think the problem with skincare and beauty communities is that they promote overconsumption. you only need the basics for a good skincare routine (cleanser, serum, moisturiser and sunscreen) but they add even more steps and active ingredients to theirs and make the rest of us feel that we need a 10 step skincare routine to have great skin.

Yes pretty privilege is real. I have been told I should model, although I credit my appearance to my brain, as I am an artist interested in fashion and makeup. I am able to do my own nails, hair, just about anything beauty related. I used to be extremely unattractive, I was hideous. Now, sometimes in person I don't even look "real" I look like a cartoon character or some sort of fake photoshop like human being and I can walk in any store and get "discounts". I'll give you an example of my daily discounts, I was not charged for guacamole or double meat at chipotle, I asked a Starbucks barista for a water cup and he gave me a trenta cup instead of small water cup you're supposed to receive, I received free hash browns at Dunkin Donuts. Loitered in a park when it was closed, my bag chain was stuck in a park bench and security helped me remove it. I had to use the bathroom at taco bell, which you have to make a purchase in order to use, the cashier printed me a receipt without me spending money, giving me access to the bathroom. Strange how I'm exempt from regular occurrences and get free stuff? I was NEVER treated with basic humanity when I was ugly. I'm treated better during simple interactions, however when I wasn't pretty I never received this "special treatment", such as free discounts and legal exemptions. I have also received far better marks on my academics due to my appearance. I can receive dozens of compliments on a daily basis, but when I was ugly, I rarely heard how amazing and special I was. People treated me like dirt on their shoe, I'll never forget how fake and shitty people were.

Loving yourself means treating yourself with kindness, respect, and care, just like you would with a close friend. It's about accepting and embracing who you are, flaws and all. Here's how to do it in simple terms:
Positive Self-Talk: Be mindful of your inner voice. Replace self-criticism with words of encouragement. Treat yourself kindly and avoid negative thoughts.
Self-Care: Take care of your physical and mental well-being. Get enough rest, eat well, and engage in activities that make you happy.
Set Boundaries: Learn to say "no" when needed. Don't overcommit and prioritize your needs, so you don't feel overwhelmed.
Celebrate Achievements: Whether big or small, acknowledge your accomplishments. It boosts your self-esteem and reminds you of your capabilities.
Embrace Imperfections: Nobody's perfect. Accept your flaws and understand that they make you unique. Don't compare yourself to others.
Surround Yourself with Positivity: Spend time with people who uplift you and avoid those who bring you

I am 16 years old. I also discuss a little about beauty standards on my channel. As someone who takes a psychology class, we may want to conform to peer pressure like these subjects because of a sense of connection. In reality people needs to understand that we shouldn’t connect because of looks, we should connect with each other for who we are. This influence our values and our values tend to be shitty. It makes me think in further questioning, ‘’ why do we want to be accepted by those who don’t accept themselves‘’ ( a domino effect). Many of us is way to hyper fixed on looking the best instead of becoming the best.

  • @SH-vo5je

Honestly, to me, I think the main issue is that women replicate the societal pressures put on women and keeps it in a constant cycle. We are our own worst enemy. If we stopped trying so hard to be 100% perfect all the time to fit into the pressures, the pressures will decline. The expectations will begin to fall apart. Another thing is that the negative comments you get if you don't look a certain way, more often than not, come from other women (at least from my experience). Men often don't care if you wear your hair in a messy bun or wear trainers and no makeup. I've gone years now wearing next to no makeup daily with a morning routine of washing my face, using an eye cream if the skin around my eyes are extra dry or slightly puffy and then an SPF moisturiser and that's it.
Everything else is actually quite necessary, especially if you have a nighttime skincare routine. I've become comfortable wearing no makeup and my outfits now are mainly chunky boots, black sports leggings and a hoodie or oversized jacket over a plain black top. The need to dress up all the time just isn't there for me anymore. I'm comfortable in myself in that regards and don't feel like I need to try and fit any pressures anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still hate my weight and have body issues but I stopped giving a cr*p about what society thinks now and if we all started having that mindset we can actually make a difference in reducing pressures and easing pressure for future generations. Instead, more and more women are posting highly edited photos on social media, getting unneeded work done and replicating the expectations and then complaining about it when it affects more and more women.

Younger women don’t need all this stuff. A good moisturizer is all you need as well as sunscreen and staying away from tanning. 7 or 8 products is ridiculous. This expense on beauty products, etc. is much worse than it was in the 1940s and 1950s. Women were more frugal then, but they still looked good and dressed up to leave the house.

Bro I wish more people would talk about how this isn’t a unique issue and even tho it sucks, we’re 10000% better than where we came. Like this often gets lumped in with the “kids are crazy these days!” mentality. Like bro we’re in the hangover phase from what those who came before got drunk off of. Like it used to be we didn’t even talk about this stuff openly. I really feel like most insecurities we have are from our parents and the generations before them. It’s the tainted knowledge that’s been passed down and we’re trying to distill out of our systems.

The $2,000 that girl pays to look good almost every two weeks could clear my debt 😭 even though that money would help me, I am grateful for where I’m at and I’m grateful life has showed me ways to be humble and appreciate my life even if I don’t have a lot of money. I still have food in my stomach, shelter, family that love me and most importantly, a body that keeps me going and all my five senses. There is always something to be grateful for ♥️

I dress up at home. I feel good when I look great at home. ❤ I work from home and most of my classes (law student). So I love looking great at home. The way I dress at home, is the way I will go out to the supermarket.
Because I’m a lot at home since the pandemic, I’m really into interior design. 😂 I’m busy changing my kitchen and bought loads of stuff.

I'm always amazing at our capalist society. Advertisers and influencers maje up problems just so they can sell us something we don't need. I agree with comnenter who said we women have so much power. We don't have to do everything SM throws at us to be self confident.

I think it’s a lot of projection going on when the beauty standards. Along with FOMO and “keeping up with the Jones’s” Comparison is the killer of all joy⚡️It’s a lot of people worried about people who not even worried about themselves. Like if people lived and let live along with doing the internal work on themselves I think everyone would be a lot further. I just found your channel and I like your voice and your presence so good work to ya❤️❤️❤️
