At 80 Years Old, Roger Daltrey Is Saying Goodbye - Zábava
He’s a legend and he looks fantastic at 80
He does, what's he on!
Can I get what he is on please ?
Roger could say he was 65 years old and I would believe him 😊❤
He's one of a few of his generation who still has a great voice. Best wishes to Roger.
I saw Daltrey a couple weeks back. I closed my eyes and listened to him sing. His voice was powerful, and it could have been 30-year-old Roger. His voice still sounds that good.
It's funny how some singers voices really show their age, like McCartney and Elton John, while others hardly change.
Your voice reflects your health and ages as your general body ages.
Saw The Who for my first concert on December 11th 1975 at MLG in Toronto. My parents bought me the tickets for Christmas. So glad I saw them with the original members.
Nice Christmas gift and what cool parents. I was 4 years behind you. Toronto 1979 at Exhibition Stadium. Greatest show in my lifetime!
i was at the very same show at the gardens in toronto. i have to say i was practically begged to go because i wasn't really sold on townsends guitar playing. but he made me a believer , thats for sure and it was a great show.
You mean MLG.
Lucky! I saw them a bit later. 1979 show was the first tour with their new drummer. But at that show AC/DC were still with Bon Scott!
🚀🏴☠️🎸
saw them in Australia in the 80s fantastic concert
Here's a man who has seen many of his contemporaries kicking out before their time, and he's grateful for the time he's given. When we get old this is what happens. If only we could learn this earlier. Not many rockers from that era still around, and what a contribution The Who has made.
Tremendous musician!! I had the privilege to see The Who live in 1976 during their American Bicentennial Tour. A concert I will never forget.
It was Peter Townshend who was the instigator and driving force behind the Who, although I am not taking anything away from Roger. He had a great voice and looked the part back in the day. He looks incredible for 80 yrs of age.
He wrote some amazing things and his stage presence was unreal. But if you were to put John Entwhistle (rip) & Keith Moon (rip ) in different rooms to hear them play, there is not one person that could say they'd mesh together cohesively as they were playing diametrically opposing things ( brilliantly). Yet in the who with pete and roger they gave a sound that was so unique no one could touch them within a country mile. the who stopped being the who when KM passed.
Roger asked Pete and John to join his band The Detours. In the early days Roger was the boss.
@@joeblo5804 Well said. Brilliant band.
I'm 70 and I must say as a dedicated fan of the Who Daltrey wears his youth well, as many of us born of this period do; which will be a song in and of this time of end of generations and evolution!!! Peace and love my friends!!!
80 is a good age for a rock star to hang it up. He's not alone, as many others approaching that age have either done so, or only perform on a limited basis. But vocalists, in particular, struggle with their voice after they reach 70. As we've already seen in the past 10 years, most don't even live to be 70-75
I remember meeting Roger. He was standing in his Y-fronts in a small communal curtained-off changing room area in I was Lord Kitchener's Valet, a trendy store in London in the 1960's (65?). I had gone in to try on a pair of trousers and there he was. Recognized him immediately and couldn't believe how short he was. I think we were trying on the same style of trousers. His resilience to have been performing this long is amazing.
Did he give you a hug? He gives great ones.
I put Roger up there was Freddie Mercury as one of the best front-men.
Saw The Who in the summer of 1965 - they were billed under Herman's Hermits. I remember us all setting there shell-shocked when the guitars started smashing the stage, Keith was flailing his kit about and smoke bombs were going off. (Remember this was pre-internet et al so most of us hadn't a clue what we were in for.) Memorable to say the least. So glad I was there.
Nice story! Thanks for sharing. BTW,, pairing The Who with Herman's Hermit's made about much sense as Hendrix opening for The Monkees! 😄
Summer of 67.
Remember Roger being interviewed on some talk show and the interviewer asks him if they ever played with The Beatles… Roger gives a little chuckle but very seriously says “no, we would have blown them off the stage”… and so true. Lol!
Yes they weren’t controlled by their label like The Beatles were.
One of the all time greats a truly fantastic front man a legend in a legendary rock band THE WHO FOREVER.
No other band has created more anthems than The Who. If they tour again, don't miss them. They ARE STILL GREAT.
So hard to believe he's 80 looks 60 fantastic group long live rock😊😊😊
He's not "approaching 80" - he turned 80 March 1, 2024.
My first concert...The Who's 1979 thank you gig in Brighton following the filming of "Quadrophenia" there. Had queued overnight underneath the seafront in ?November the weekend before to get tickets. My friend and I were up against the front barrier..couldn't hear for several days!!!
Getting into old age really sucks especially after 80 when the physical strength drains out of you. Is it better than the alternative? Depends on how much pain you are in. Not that many rockers make it to 80 considering the cigarettes, booze, drugs and late-night partying of their glory years. Daltrey is one of the all-time greats though.
Sh*t. I agree with all that and I'm "only" 64.
About a month ago I attended a Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Neil and the boys were still rocking in the free world. I recently heard they canceled some shows for health concerns.
I have seen many concerts in my lifetime, none better than the Who! The Who, Toronto 1979 is one I will never forget, and I'm a Stones guy!
He might be deaf but how good does he look at 80 wow fantastic😊
A living legend.
Roger Daltrey...80 years old....wow...where has the time gone....feels like it all just happened yesterday......."my generation".....etc....
and yes...i'll be 72 this month.
I saw him perform 8 years ago and he was awesome, as usual. I always loved him, legend.....
I don't care what anyone says, for me Roger Daltrey will always sing a razor line every time. One of THE best rock vocalists ever.
One of the Hardest singers to emulate. Greatness always a hard act to follow!
He sure looks pretty damn good for being 80! Rockin' Roger 👍👍👍👍👍🥃🍺
Honestly Roger still the greatest scream in Rock & Roll! Thanks for the memories!
Ian gillam?
Saw The Who last year at the outdoor concert at Sandringham. LEGENDS. much love!
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen The Who but I will say this: from 1976- 2023 I’ve never heard this man waver vocally. Truly underrated, truly an icon!
My favorite Who song would have to be Love Reign O'er me, so powerful and such a great tune as well!
The Glastonbury live version is one of my favourites 👍🎸
Roger Daltrey is a true gentleman, he is a living legend, the members of the Who have made their mark in History and will never be forgotten, Long live the WHO.
The Who!!! Lives Forever!!! Who R We?!!!
Let's not Get fooled Again!!! ❤ to ❤
Not to mention, a great actor as well!
He’s bee entertaining since 1963/64 for over 60 years (including the early bands)
Absolutely brilliant frontman and still sharp, looking great and with a great voice at 80 ❤
Roger was a gorgeous front man.
Still is. Makes JFK Jr. look like Jabba the Hutt.
I'm glad he didn't die before he got old
I was pretty bent on it. I made it out of the 70s.
Happy birthday Roger and hope you have many more
Roger is as tough as old boots. Saw the Who at Sandringham last year, he was still able to perform 'Reign o'er me', which is not bad at all for an old timer;-)
Thank You To Infinity Roger. Definitely had an impact on my career.
Oh, so you're going to speak for him. Never mind
Who are you talking to ?
I always liked the Who and then I was fortunate enough to attend one of their concerts in the 80s. All I can say is they are a much better live act than I ever thought possible. They more than delivered that night. They played for hours. Thanks
My once in a lifetime to see The Who, Boulder Colorado 1989! Let’s call my favorites, Live at Leeds!
A natural athlete, born to it. The looks, the chops, the pipes.
As much as I love Roger's voice I also liked his appearances on the Highlander TV show. You could tell that he was having a great time.
No Rodger didn't drink or smoke or do drugs probably have something to do with how good he looks
He smoked cigarettes in his early days.
HAHA,what do you think they sing about on"5.15","out of my brain in the train...""uppers and downers..."?!
Of course they had their stuff, speedpills and drinks, but unlike the Stones I think they avoided snow, crack
and smack,very smart...!
I bought the album he made with Wilko Johnson before he passed. He still had great pipes just a few years ago
Roger, you're the best lead man. I still listen to your songs. You are an icon.
Legend ❤🇬🇧
I like that Roger and Pete have despised each other since day one, and they never (or at least rarely) let the air between them mess with the awesome dynamism of the group.
Roger you were my pin up at 14. Looking good !... !inda,Smith my best friend back in Sussex .
SIR ROGER DALTREY.
Sir Johnny Rotton
Best rock vocalist of all time.
Thank you, Roger.
Lead guys like Daltrey, Jagger, Justin Hayward and Ian Hunter who still perform with good voice left are a gift.
Thankyou for this.
❤❤❤ best wishes to Roger’s health . I loved the who for so many Times , saw them in Oberhausen in 2016. such a Great Concert and Rogers great Voice . Greetings from Germany
That’s good to hear.
He said this same thing in 89' for their "farewell" tour...
Saw The Who live at Sandringham last Summer (August 2023). They were still at the top of their game.
Won't get fooled again ---meet the new boss same as the old boss--these prophetic and simple words are even more important today then when they were written and sung by a truly great singer in a great band---loved them after hearing their first single Can't Explain in 60 something and if you have not heard WHO'S NEXT the album I feel sorry for you
He did a album called ride a rock horse well worth a listen
Great mini documentary, if only all were as in depth, truthful and respectful as this✌️😊💜
As it's UK election time, my favourite WHO track? "Won't Get Fooled Again".
I can't explain !!!
Maybe when you are older you will be able to explain LOL
Great Singer, The whole Tommy album, I have been listening to it for 50 years, since I was born.
Roger- marvellous in many ways- saw The Who in 2009 in Sydney- and I'm still humming their songs... I thank you very much Roger.. who are you !!!!
It's nice of Roger Daltrey to give credit to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones but the truth is that Keith Moon was the best drummer in rock history, John Entwistle was the best bass player in rock history, Pete Townshend was the first guitar player in England to use the Distortion and he's one of the best and greatest composers and lyricist in rock history, Roger Daltrey is a better vocalist than anyone of the members of The Beatles and surely better than Mick Jagger, i would put Roger Daltrey in the list of 10 best rock vocalist of all times, The Who is one of the greatest monsters of rock of all times, while the album Who's Next by The Who is considered by many people as the best rock album in history, i can't think of any album by The Beatles or The Rolling Stones to even come close to the level of Who's Next, i love The Beatles and The Rolling Stones but The Who was/is a beast, a monster of rock, long live The Who!!!
Steve kilbey is the best lyricist. Dave davies was the first in the uk to use distortion.
Keith was a great drummer totally original but I disagree with the greatest drummer analogy watch the great drum solo with Joe Morello I love the who awesome band
A very subjective Opinion.
There is no "best" of anything.
There a lots of great Artists.
All have their ups and downs.
Even Pete Townsend said that Keith Moon was not a brilliant drummer. Flamboyant yes, but not brilliant.
The Who are were/are way better live than the Stones.
The who were very loud..imagine every night..but he looks great for 80..
He didn't drink and drug as much as the other band mates. So he's in great shape..
Massive Legend
It's about time
My first concert included The Who in 1967. They were third on the bill behind The Association.
Where?
@@JoaninFlorida Cow Palace, San Francisco
@torunit4620 very cool place to be back 😎 then
Just stop at "LIVE AT LEEDS" that is all you have to do to dig this band. He looks great.
Long live ROCK. Thanks Roger.
The Who were listed as the "Loudest Band" at 126 dB, having been measured 32 metres (105 feet) from the speakers during a concert in London at The Valley on 31 May 1976. 🥳
They've always used HiWatt amps. An upmarket Marshal alternative. Test a known amp
1. on a 4×12" Marshal cab, &
2. on a 4×12" HiWatt cab, and note the difference. And then there is the amp. HiWatts are availlable up to 400 Watts, but it sounds like more!
🚀🏴☠️🎸
That's the ticket! Great PA's and really loud back line. Had to keep up with Keith!! : )
Miss him already
Ive seen the Who 3 times starting in 1977 then 1980 in their (Farewell Tour) haha & then in i think it was in 2000 here on Maui. Roger, Pete, Keith & Mr. Entwhistle are LEGENDS & I am a better person for listening to their music for most of my 61.5 years
He looks great.
Well done Roger. Take a break.
Roger has had a good run. Everybody deserves to retire if they want just like anyone else.
What a legend.
The Who were the original Band for The Mods in the UK, of which I was one with my silly hairstyle PCV white jacket and my Vespa 125cc in 1962-63 and that's when the great My Generation song became our Anthem... We all took Diet Pills back then washed down with Vodka and then we all turned on to Hashish and the 60s really became what history tells you it was.
Yeah - I love Mod Culture too.
"The Kids are allright" shows this Time brilliantly.
@@peterschmitz6446 : An old friend of mine from those early Mod days was the model that Sting played in Quadrophenia and Sting looked EXCATLY like him... The Clothes, haircut, Scooter, mannerisms everything, except the accent.
Havent seen him in decades but last I heard, 1981, he was living with an American Film Producer in London.
His name was Cecil and he was the first person to dye his hair Pink in 1962-63 and dye his Parka, which we all wore, purple with a Fur Collar... He was King Mod and we lived in Glasgow Scotland...
ROGER IS MY HERO__ALLLL TIME
Roger still looks great for his age and if he retire then good on him as he is doing it on his terms , the Same applies for Pete Townshend as well .
Rodgers talent is totally awesome he took chances and they paid off.
Top man
My first Who concert was in 1971. I was eleven years old. Rockstar done right!👍🏻
Giving it all away
Behind Blue eyes 👀 💙 is one of my favourites back in the 70ts I was ment to go to see the who it was a choice between the who and a new girlfriend i choose the girlfriend 😊❤
Never! Ain't heard that for a long time. I did though have some girlfriend, who thought I should make my choice. Why, wtf? Good bye!
🚀🏴☠️🎸
You left out the early Who…mods and rockers days
Fit as a fiddle is young roger.
Relay.
How did he stay so strong, healthy, and keen of mind? Anyone?
Unlike certain Stones and Beatles, Daltry has the good sense to walk away instead of becoming an aged stereotype of himself.
DALTREY😠
He is cool.🎉🎉🎉
He's 80?? Sure doesn't look it!!!
I am an expert on Rock and Roll yet ive never heard of Roger.
🙃
Just within the last year, I think, I saw RD with Sammy Hagar and they sang
and I thought they both sounded great. Better than McCartney and that dudes still touring.
I think Roger and Pete could easily do acoustic sets and pull it off, I'd buy tickets to that format.
Listening to you, I get the music 🎶
The Ox!
