  • On this video we do our best to create a comparison of turbo kits while keeping external factors the same! The goal was to see how different kits perform while discussing downpipe sizes, turbine housings, and manifold design. The dyno results were directly compared to highlight where the design differences translate into real world performance differences. Enjoy!

Twin scroll/divided manifold/rear housing on e85 will definitely spool better and have a bit more top end than a open manifold/rear setup running on 93. The downpipe size likely doesn't make a huge difference at this sort power level, assuming both kits have the gates dumping to atmosphere and are not plumbed into the exhaust. Would be a more direct comparison if tuned on the same fuel. Also worth noting EGT's would be a bit happier with the 3.5 downpipe in any case which is always a good thing :) For a street car that revs to 7-8k, you definitely want something that feels punchy well before 4k

You should also show the boost pressure in the graph. That torque curve for the soho is not smooth. Something is not right. I don't think ethanol vs 93 oct is a fair comparison.

Howdy, I have the data logs for both runs saved. The VPF kit opens the wastegate around 3800rpm. The Soho kit opens the wastegate around 5200rpm. The boost curve on the EcuTek data log matches the dyno graph geometry. Comparing fuels at this power level will have gains, but it wont change the characteristics of the graph that much. We wanted this comparison to be as unbiased as possible but the owner wanted to stay on 93oct for the time being. So we raised boost slightly to "even" out the ethanol gains.
Focusing on graph geometry only, the spool up time is night and day. The VPF manifold design and turbine housing selection are the main driving factors. T4 divided housing have always been known to spool turbines more efficiently in comparison to single inlet housings.
Going to the top end portion of the graphs, the Soho kit starts to fall off around 6300 while the VPF kit keeps climbing. We are attributing this difference to down pipe size. Bigger downpipes have always helped the turbine sides efficiency.
