Dynamite the Track wasn't "pitch corrected" though🙄💜🤭💜
      The "Auto-tune"
      was added
      mid production
bc it was an effect (almost like Cher -
      in "Believe")
It was deliberately done - & done as a
      "Slice of Americana"
      In Michael
      Jackson stylee
      (As a sap to
      the U S Industry)
Who always try to cut Bangtan out
(bc they're taking over the Industry)
      The Bangtan Members
      All Sing Live -
      All the time
      (& don't need
      Autotune)
      Bang PD was
      trolling
      "The
      Academy" -
(bc they are always flat out ignoring Bangtan)
& trying to say they are "Just
      a manufacted
      Disney Chnl
      type thing"
but Bangtan never have been so.
      There was no
      "Pitch Correction"
      - nor was any needed (it's a bit daft to assume otherwise tbh)
I have perfect pitch (& if he went to a Bangtan Concert he'd realise they all sing v well & are uber talented🙏🏻💜🇬🇧💜

Cool analysis. 4th Impact and Halocene's versions of Bohemian Rhapsody, patterned after the original and The Peterson's version of it are probably the only ones by groups without pitch correction in existence today, now that they've pitch corrected Queen's version. There's also a live 4th Impact a cappella version. Few have had the courage or ability to do that.

Thank you Phil for giving us this tutorial on auto-tune. From my listening to these ladies for several years I can not think of one time they have ever used auto-tune. These sisters have been singing together (as a group) for over 20 years and through thick and thin have stayed true to their live voices. Whether a big stage or a live stream to their fans, these amazing sisters have always kept it real. I appreciate your analysis even though I never liked this song because it does little to showcase their real talent ...which is their Harmonies.

  • @stevenclark1038
    @stevenclark1038 Před 3 měsíci +19

Hi, new to your channel, 4th Impact brought me here. This isn't the first time the girls have had audio trouble, over the years they have been plagued by audio problems and yet these ladies, being the professionals they are, they keep it together and plug on, (most times without anyone the wiser) singing and dancing like nothing is wrong. Once Celina got her earpiece to work properly the rest of the show went flawlessly.
I had no idea that BTS had used autotune to produce this song, this is something 4th Impact has never used, while producing or on stage, they have several covers and original songs done in one take, in studio or on stage, many of the songs better than the original.
Their devoted fans, called Dreamers, call lthese ladies the **Queens of Harmony** because Mylene, who is the Vocal Arranger for the group has a gift for placing her and her sisters in the right place in each song's lyrics and usually adds a fair anount of harmonies to each song, harmonies are were these ladies excel, being sisters has a lot ot do with that, so being close as they are they play off of each others leads so well.
A little back story about these ladies, in 2006 and 2013 they were invited to the World Championship of Performing Arts in California, as representatives of the Philippines where they received 50 honors, mostly gold medals (36) and silver(4), plus best in their division distinctions.
The girls joined the Superstar K6, in Korea in 2013, where they finished 8th and as they were about to give up, someone suggested that they try one more time, so they changed their name to 4th Power and in 2015 the girls joined the X-Factor UK, where they finished 5th and their first audition song "Bang Bang" is the most viewed X-Factor video of all time with 192 million views! During the after tour all the finalists go on, the girls were voted by audiences at every venue as the best act!
They started singing as a group in 2001, to help provide food for the family table, their goal the entire time has been to make a better life for their family and that goal is still alive today, as they pursue their dream in Los Angeles California, having relocated from the Philippines back in April of 2023, creating a 5 original song album, called "Distorted" and a couple of Music Video covers, "Flowers" and "Part of Your World"
Thanks for the great technical breakdown of these performances.

Wow, love your commentary. Never noticed half the stuff you are pointing out. Thanks. Oh, but about vocals on the backing track..... um nope, fairly sure that's all live. (Absolutely sure the whistle note was live. These girls all have such volume they often have to pull the mics back a good bit.) Admittedly, they do sometimes use backing tracks with vocals turned very low. But that is mostly a matter of convenience (probably to keep costs down). This performance is from Asian Song Festival 2022 in South Korea were they were invited and are representing the Philippines. These girls routinely manage to make their 4 voices sound like a lot more than four. They also have a couple originals were some of their vocal sound effects are recorded onto the backing track. But these girls are the real deal and will often just wing it a cappella if the backing track has problems. Usually turns out fine. But seriously, it is amazing (and rather infuriating) how often the house equipment fails them whenever they do a live gig. Guess that is why they can handle it so well, they are really used to it. 😊😊😊😊

Singers like Zhou Shen (see my other comments), Dimash, Hua Chen Yu, Sohyang, D.O., BTS (not all their songs use autotune - don't use the English version songs released for American radio/American audiences during COVID as a gauge of their live vocals), IU, and so many more. Also, you can't necessarily use broadcast performances where the show producers have control of the audio and can choose to tweak or pitch correct the audio (which unfortunately has become a standard) to determine if a singer can sing well live.

A big give away if their songs are auto tuned is if they sound too even. BTS’s vocal line has Very unique and distinct voices. Jungkook is good at matching his voice to the other members but they aren’t the same for each other.
So when they have a track that’s too, flat? vocally, is a dead give away.
Personally I prefer when their voices sound distinct but harmonious best, so Dynamite irks me for that. Best performance of it was the airport version with the live band. Wish we had that version recorded!

I think the best version is done by Joni James. It just sounds better then the many other singers. The movie Casablanca would have been even better if Joni could have sung the song as the female singer to Rick. Can you tell me if I am right about Joni James voice.

It will sound HORRIBLE. You pitch will be all over the place, even if you have good pitch matching sense when singing.

Thanks for bringing knowledge and thereby accountability to the music industry. I worked in a large club setting for a number of yrs. at Billy Bob’s Texas, the world’s largest honkytonk. The jam sessions were always so interesting. Different acoustic surroundings, smaller, often tube amps, non large venue more delicate microphones, and less pressure on everyone. Miscues were just laughed at. Lots of quirks in the entertainers. No ears, Randy Travis very flat. David Allen Coe could not have a fan blowing in his face or he would lose his voice. Slept on the bus the entire tour. I never knew if Willie and Waylon worked on diction or just had it. Merle Haggard could imitate anyone. The story is that Waylon and Eddie Van Halen had their strings closer to the frets than anyone. Stevie Ray really geared up for the stage and was smiling a lot more when relaxing and playing and singing. Thank God for the differences then and now. Like George Jones song, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?” In all genres I think the answer is - no one. But you have to give the newer artists credit.

very interesting - but i don't see the issue of non-auto-tuned singers covering an auto-tuned original as an issue - it's simply that one rendition is assisted by computers - but both are heard as songs performed by singers (so far) - one set of singers has proven talent - the other is questionably talented
that's the issue with kpop - i'm a big fan - but have had to listen to a herd of performers who are insipid singers - with only a few with genuine talent sprinkled thru out - it's a good thing there are good songs - passably performed - or i would have ignored them entirely
it's too bad that the entertainment explosion came out of korea rather than the philippines - the filipinos have always had an appreciation for dynamic voices - as Lia Salonga said - in the philippinos good singers are a dime a dozen - but the gov't & economy there are poor - whereas korea has thrived - and the gov't decided decades ago to establish the entertainment industry - and make it a potent source of income - and it succeeded - with tv dramas - movies - and now kpop

Those men have beautiful voices and have worked hard to sing live while dancing to ridiculous choreography at their live performances. Check out Jin singing Epiphany, JK singing Euphoria, V singing Stigma , Jimin singing Serendipity and vocal line together singing anything including The Truth Untold, Mikrokosmos, The Magic Shop, or Your Eyes Tell.
