Winter camping in my 6x10 cargo trailer. First time out after all the changes I made to the truck. Camped by a river near some waterfalls in freezing temperatures.
The coldest we ever did was -24 F in tents fifty plus years ago in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin. We we so cold when we broke camp in the morning we dragged our tents up the hill unfolded and stuffed them in our cars. My now wife’s nose was frostbitten and that was the end of winter camping for her. Last week (February 24th), the same group of guys from fifty years ago and I did our annual winter camping trip to Mauthe Lake, Wisconsin. The temps got down to the low 20s F at night and the low 50s the next afternoon. Winters sure are warmer nowadays.
That is incredible! I can see why your wife is hesitant to join u again. So great you guys are still getting together still after such a long friendship.
Another great video Zac. So good to see Suzette. Coldest I’ve camped with my grandson is minus 48 Celsius at the dog sleds in Kearney. He was a real trooper. In a hot tent. That breakfast looked so good. Looking forward to the next one
Wow -48 definitely beats our coldest temperature. It’s amazing what a wood stove makes possible. Thanks so much for the comment. We are hoping to catch the dog sledding next year.
What else should you bring? You should get a stripped nut removal kit from Canadian tire, they would be invaluable in the back country. I go off roading in the back country in the mountains. Usually no one is around and the nearest people would be a 20 to 30 km hike if i could not drive out.
@@waysoutback Another item I never leave home without if I know I’m going off road, is a winch, I bought a Warn 6000 lb winch that fits in the hitch receiver, as nobody made any winch mounting setups for the ‘07 Ranger I have, I went to a recommended welding shop to make a receiver for the front of my truck, it’s mounted in between and attached to the frame, so I can pull from either the front or the back. Also from a harsh lesson, I now never carry less than 300 feet of cable and chains with chokers. For the power to the rear of the truck to the winch I bought the 20 foot 2 gauge power cables.
Sounds exactly like my set up. Isn’t it awesome to have a winch for the front or the back. I got mine too after learning a harsh lesson involving an off road tow truck.
Thanks for your comment. Actually in Canada they add additive to the winter diesel so we don’t need to worry about it. So we always run fresh diesel so we know we aren’t using summer diesel.
I heard that the west is having a mild winter! We live in southern Ontario so we have no snow where we are but drive North a few hours it’s amazing the difference!!!!
" yeah, it's about -20 out right now"
Proceeds to set up outdoor recliners....
Is there any wonder why we love our Canadian friends?
lol. So true! Wish Canada had tropical provinces but we make do.🙂

I should add that most of us are still camping in tents.

You have my respect. Tents are a whole different sphere
Great video! Nature is so pretty in the winter.
So true! Completely different views in winter.

That’s a great suggestion! Thank you so much for your input. Jealous of your location near mountains….

@@waysoutback A very harsh lesson on the old wallet.
Nice video - congrats on the truck's new life. Brrr. 🥶 At -20 C did your diesel gel? Do you use additive? Thanks

I noticed you had a DC to DC charger behind your driver's seat...did you vlog the install?
No, but u gave me a good idea…..coming soon…
Nice to see you getting out. Out west we are waiting for winter to hit. A couple cold snaps but not a lot of winter.

Using a spade shovel to clear snow is unCanadian ..😁
Couldn’t agree more!!!!!
Ever tried eggs lupin sage and scrambled t
Never heard of it. I’ll definitely look it up. Thanks for the suggestion.🙂
I bet you don't want to share the details of your nice camp site
We like to encourage people to find their own treasures, it isn’t hard with so much crown land in Ontario.
