I love that you're not obsessed with the aesthetic of your home, wardrobe, kids clothes. It's so much more relatable!! Those youtubers are great but make you feel like a failure if your house isn't clean every day, you're not going on adventures daily, your clothes are normal and not the latest trend, etc.

We did relaxed EC and 100% CD. Sign language made EC such MUCH easier for us. She was consistently signing “potty” by 8 months. She also didn’t have a single wet diaper at night after around 9 months. It was WILD! Then potty training at 20 months was INSANELY easy because of EC.

My baby also had nighttime dry diapers for most of a year before we switched from relaxed EC to toilet training.

Probably too little too late, but i found with my secondhand cloth diapers (if you aren't worried about re-sale), if the elastic is loose, just put a little cut in the fabric on the insode at one end and pull on the elastic until it is tight enough and then tie a knot. no sewing required. Similar method also works for pants.

We started EC with my daughter at 2 weeks old and cloth diapering around 2 months. She's almost 1yr old now and starts to resist the potty when she doesn't need to go, but also doesn't tell us when she does. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We haven't had more than 4 poop diapers since 4 or 5 months old and it has been such a blessing. We use the pocket diapers, but just lay the liners inside like a regular ol' period pad. Since I was already using Huckleberry for sleep, I used it to track her pees for awhile and realized if we just got her on the potty every 45 minutes to an hour, she would pee the potty instead of her diaper. I'm so glad that I found your channel when I was pregnant because I always wanted to cloth diaper and was so intimidated to start until I watched your videos. Thanks so much for all the research and being so candid about motherhood.

Nice to see I'm not alone! I did some EC with both of my kids from birth, just during transitions or when it was obvious or convenient. We started full on potty training at 18 months for them both and we were out of diapers by 20 months. I largely attribute this early potty training success to our awesome daycare though, they take the kids every hour starting at 18 months and peer pressure is super helpful! With kids that young I think "bush wee's" are inevitable, so yeah lots of that happened. :) We're expecting #3 soon and I'm going to add some cloth diapering to the mix I think!

We started EC with our now 10 month old at 10 days old. It's so awesome! He's working on a lot more mobility now (plus bladder is holding a lot more now) and he's been in a pee "potty pause" but I expected this from Andrea Olson's info. We only have to change a poop diaper once or twice a month! Definitely worth the study, attention, and work.

I feel the need to give you my tip!! Give it a shot, I don't think you'll regret it 🤗. Vinegar girl - use it and I use soap nut beads from Amazon. Also, here's the biggiest game changer, I use Viva paper towels for a linger over the incerts. Hardly ever deal with stains and have had no smell, vingar is awesome. Also, I learned a lot also through research, total game changer. So, we started EC at a few weeks with my first and my second is 4wks. We're doing EC now but taking a much more lax approach like you are. 🤗

Thanks so much for the reinvigoration about cloth diapering. I took a little break from it but realized I need to get back to it! My favorite diaper is Grovia all in one, they stretch so nice to fit the babies just right and are not quite as bulky as the Bum Genius. Cloth wipes really actually make cloth diapering easier because you don’t have to have a place to throw the wipes and a place to throw the cloth diapers, they all just go in the wet bag. I like the Grovia cloth wipes as well and I just fold them in half and put them in our Lionelheart wipes warmer right out of the wash so I don’t have to wet them or anything. I use disposable wipes still when I go out but for home, so much easier. Anyway, thanks for your content, I always look forward to new videos by you.

Totally agree about wanting all the cloth diapers to be the same. I tried 6 of a different style after my first pocket diapers, and I don't use them at all. Just sticking with the 36 pockets! Your recommendations about using disposables early on and not feeling like 100% cloth was necessary helped me get on board with cloth! And now, buying disposables makes me so crazy because they're so expensive. 😫

I’m pregnant with my second and they will be about 18 months apart so I potty trained my son at 16 months. Honestly it’s more like EC right now because I offer the majority of the time and he tells us occasionally. It’s worked really well with a slight regression and now we are doing great and ready for baby sister to come! I am definitely going to EC her way earlier because I don’t want to do the 3 day potty train method ever again.🤪

I have 1 baby. She’s almost 6 months. Been cloth diapering since she was 2 months (when she would fit into them!) loosely practice EC. Mostly do transitions and try not to stress too much lol. Catch a lot of pees and the occasional poop. I notice that EC helps get out her gas which is a win! We double up on inserts with hemp for overnight cloth diapering. And occasionally use disposable. She loves to sit on her little top hat potty and I’m looking into getting the next potty soon! Love you channel. Have been a subscriber since you were first prego!

I started EC with my LO when he was about 2 months by just putting a potty under his butt for every feed, as I heard young babies mainly poop during breastfeeding. Now he is 3.5 months and he gets fussy when he needs to pee, so I'll take his diaper off, get the potty and he associates it with peeing so he lets it all out directly. I was so surprised how well it works. Just bought some splitpants to make the whole process a little easier. Also, when he's in the woven wrap or carrier, he'll go up to 1.5 hours without pee or poo, because apparently babies don't want to get their caregivers dirty. I am so obsessed :D Only downside is that he will only go on his specific potty, so if we're at a friend's house he'll signal, but he won't go when holding him over a sink or something. And he seems to hate peeing in a diaper, so he sometimes starts crying when we're somewhere we can't take his pants off

I feel the SAME WAY about buying disposable diapers. Lol! I’m blown away every time! I mean this in the most non-judgmental, truly curious way: “How do people afford to do disposables full time?!”
We cloth roughly 90% of the time. We do disposables at night, on Long flights, or if we are out of town more than 4 day w/o access to a washer/Dryer. I found when ai go into it with an “we’ll figure it out attitude, & just do the best we can, it’s fine.”
Most of the time we do an AirBnB w/ WD or find friends & family nearby. I went to a wash house once on a trip, spent $40 to wash & dry 2 loads of laundry, & ended up with BAD STINK, & diapers did not get clean! NEVER AGAIN.

I tried to be that mom with the cloth diapers. We had 12 SimpleBeing from Amazon. It lasted a few months, but they leaked ALL the time. Every single diaper change (regardless of the type of elimination) was a complete outfit change, plus any bedding or blanket that was nearby. It stressed me out so bad that when I went back to work I couldn't in good conscience ask anyone else to do it. I still love the idea. More power to the ones succeeding at it. I felt all the guilt come flooding back as you talked, but I know that wasn't your intention. Our little one turned 2 in June, and we are hoping to succeed at potty training soon!! I do cloth and in the beginning with the brand new ones, I was soooo mad. They leaked EVERYWHERE. Never did I realize or know before hand that they needed to be 'stripped' and made to be absorbent *smacks own head*. It wasn't until like a couple months later when I had been refusing to use those ones that I had looked up that brand and came across something about stripping new diapers did I learn that. And I had to do it a few times to get them to really absorb! It was frustrated for sure so I can definitely feel your pain on that part. If I didn't have any used ones, I would have thrown things lol Especially with how much they cost new!

We cloth diaper pretty much exclusively (we even started nighttime cloth!) And I am SO glad we do! The cost of disposables right now is insane! We tried EC when baby was around 4 months and same as you, sleep regression got us hard and there was some feeding issues along with that. We started some EC when our little bean was two months old, but have found some improvement as we get more consistent. She is almost six months and we are mostly doing EC at home. We catch 3-5 eliminations per day usually, but sometimes it’s 7 or 0 (if I am unable to take her, she just has to go in her diaper..)
GO TO FLUFF LOVE UNIVERSITY for the wash routine for your cloth diapers! we’ve used their recommendations as well as sun bleaching the diapers, and have had no problem with smell at all. They have a laundry detergent index telling you exactly how much of each detergent you should use, if it’s safe for cloth diapers, etc..
Also we save money by fixing our own cloth diaper elastics (got ‘em used as well) There’s a really quick CZcams video I watched to learn how

Not a “granatural” mom.. yet, due with our first in December but definitely a reduce reuse one. Switch to cloth from paper in the kitchen for towels/napkins/cleaning and it was a bit of a task at first but I HATE paper towels now, especially for cleaning, cloth just gives me more control and a better barrier between what I’m cleaning and my hands.
Anyways love that you just posted because I’ve been trying to read more about EC as we prep for baby!
My laundry jack is to use distilled vinegar as fabric softener. Takes the smell out of EVERYTHING. I wash my hockey equipment in it and it’s does quite well. I got some “fresh linen” essential oil blend and will throw in a few drops of that so you get the softener smell without all the junk.

It feels ridiculous to only be doing about 10 diapers at a time but because they hold so much more water than normal clothing smaller amounts of diapers really equals the same amount of cloth as a normal load of clothes.

My husband and I were excited to do EC with our son and watched a bunch of videos and guides and read a lot before he was born, and we started it with him since birth. At first it was exciting because we had some good catches, not every time but working pretty well. But when he was around one month old, I have no idea why because nothing really changed, our son started to get really constipated. We tried a bunch of things to help him and stopped EC because we didn't want to stress him out further. We tried doing it again a few months later but we couldn't be consistent because we were both back at work and couldn't have the nanny or daycare do it so we had to stop. He also just is very oblivious to when he goes, we worked on signing for everything around pottying but it just wasn't connecting with him because he was just focused on other things so we just had to stop it. It is what it is, and it just wasn't right for him, but we will hopefully try some things we learned from it as we start potty training now as he's almost a year old.

    1. toss any dirty diaper in the tub
    2. next person who showers washes/rinses the diapers
    3. put those washed diapers in next normal load of laundry
Our baby is 3 months old and so far nothing smells bad after getting washed together. I plan to strip the diapers soon just because the inserts are not as soft and white as they used to be.
also, if you're really worried about it, my grandma washed her kids diapers in the toilet, yes the toilet, and my dad is still alive from that

We've been sitting our little on the potty since about 6 months old. Primarily in the morning when she wakes up. The poops are really obvious so we try to run her to the toilet then too. She's happy on the toilet and no matter what I want her to just be comfortable and know its normal. She sees mom and dad go potty too. Open door policy lol.
Also love cloth diapers! We have several kinds but that doesn't bother me although we do have preferences. The bum genius are hands down best at night. I add a wash cloth for an extra layer of absorbency. The solid food poops are so much easier. They basically fall off into the toilet.

Tip on cloth diapers, bleach breaks down the elastic real fast , I wouldn't recommend still using bleach for that reason . My easy no fuss method has worked beautifully, ( i use Nora's Nursery diapers, they are perfection ) all i do is rinse real good after each use and stick them in the pail , i wash every other day , and use seventh generation detergent with a scoop of borax in each load . Hang to dry whenever possible . I literally have zero staining on the diapers , I think the material helps quite a lot with no staining . So easy and works beautifully with no special effort 😉

I did EC with my daughter from like 5 days until she was sitting and crawling. Like…. 7 months? I never thought we’d stop but she just WASN’T having it once she could crawl. She’d arch her back and get so annoyed that she had to sit for 2 seconds! And I have a 2 year old also so I couldn’t just watch the baby like a hawk. Now she’s one and I’m thinking of trying some easy catches. We for sure do cloth diapers for both kids! Can’t imagine using disposable. Cloth is a pain to get the hang of, but after that it’s so dang convenient and cheap.

Interesting. Maybe it's just a phase? Mine was really into crawling once he got it down (around 7 months I think) and would get upset if you tried to move him. I am still very new to EC, so I appreciate all the stories/info out there. I started EC just in the morning at maybe 11 months. I know that's a bit late to begin EC. I guess I wasn't completely on board with a brand new baby (first baby and everything)-- all the poop, during the first few month he poo every time he nursed... like I knew it was coming but no way I would get him to potty in time unless I nursed w/ over the potty (or whatever being used). I only started EC at other times (after eating, for example) these last fews days @ 13 months. He seems to make the connection that he is supposed to pee/poo while on the potty. Clearly I need to buy a smaller amount at one time! I need to get up the courage to to it overnight though and then we can make even less trash!

My son is 10m and he thinks sleep is for the weak.(he for sure would trigger your sleep anxiety) From birth this kid has take max 2 naps a day 30mins or less. I would stress that he wasn’t getting enough sleep and that it would impact him negatively, it hasn’t. He is a happy healthy kid, that just happens to hate naps and refuses to sleep through the night unless he is sick. As a mom we tend to stress about things when our kids do abnormal things, like not napping bc we want our kids to be the best they can be. I’m also on the fence about doing cloth diapers if I have a second child, just bc I have read, cloth diapers only reduce carbon footprint if you use them with multiple children, otherwise they are not cheaper than disposables and can increase carbon footprint due to the Energy that takes to produce them. We have used hello bello diaper subscription with my son and that has worked out.

Mine isn't afraid of the toilet either. But I don't feel like EC has helped with potty training. In fact I felt like EC has been harder the more "toddler like" he has become. I tried the guilding to the potty (in the room) during the pee, which I think is in both the "Oh Crap" and the "Tiny Potty" training method as the first part of potty training. Honestly, it was all fun and games up until I guided him to the potty, then every potty instance was met with a tantrum. I thought part of the benefit of potty training early (15.5 months) was there wouldn't be this huge fight. He knows what the potty is for but only wants to use it on his own terms. He also isn't talking yet so although I try to validate his feelings, I don't know how much that is helping. I know I can try again when he's older, but if I keep being met with resistance who quite literally will refuse to pee in the potty (unless it's on his own terms), then I don't know how potty training will work. I have seen some potty training videos on yt, but the kids are not putting up this fight like mine is.

I started cloth diapering at around 2 months. Disposable at night and when we go out (or when they are all in the laundry/drying). I plan to start transitional ec when she's about 7 months when we get back home because we have a trip planned for acouple weeks mid month. I originally wanted to do 6 months (because we are just using the ring instead of the little potty and I figured her legs would be long enough and she'd be sitting).

We cloth diaper! Loooooooove it. We did it from birth. We never had issues with cleaning and do the following: Collect used diapers in a pail liner. We are now weaning, so I plop poops in the toilet or use a sprayer (into the toilet) if they're not ploppable and then again keep them in the pail liner. Every morning after changing out of the night's diaper, I put on a short wash at 40C with detergent. Every 3-4 days, I run the longest program available to me on 60C with detergent. Rinse and repeat! Pun intended...

We use Esembly diapers unless we are out or sometimes at night. She pees soooo much at night and if I don’t use an overnight insert it leaks. (I only have two of those) but I love the cloth diapers.
For poops I rinse out and any solid chunks and then do a quick wash/ low water cycle on warm, then a normal cycle on hot with free and clear. I wash her laundry every three days. Trying EC but I only notice the queues for poo.🤷🏼‍♀️

  • @americanwomantoday1928

You know those clay cat litter boxes? Well they seal really well. Rather than throwing those away we have two. And we use one empty container and I fill it maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the way with water. And that's what we put the dirty cloth diapers in. I wash them everyday to every other day and just dump the whole thing into the wash. Once baby started solids I'll let it fall into the baby potty if it's harder (which I have the baby potty on her changing table) and if it's runnier I have a bidet specifically for rinsing cloth diapers and then I'll put it in with the rest. It's really uncomplicated and easy to keep up with. I also don't fold anything and have 2 drawers 1 for inserts and 1 for covers so I can just throw them in when they're clean

As a first time mom, cloth diapering just seems so hard. I really wanted to give it a shot when I was pregnant and making my baby registry, but my husband thought it would be a lot of work especially because we have a septic system. I tried EC around 4 months with my baby boy and "caught" two pees. I only tried for a week or two.
It is really hard to aim a tiny penis. Since Im not working right now, i would really like to give EC another go. But i also struggled with learning my son's signals; poop is super obvious but pee not so much.

My hubs was completely joking when I was pregnant that "she'll be out of diapers by 1 year" and then I started EC. So now I'm like, well, she WILL be if you remember to take her to the potty. lol.

I always wanted to do cloth diapers, but my wife was 100% NOT ON BOARD. So we did a diaper raffle at the baby shower & ended up with over 1,000 diapers in various sizes. It really bothered me every time I tossed a diaper in the trash…. but I had severe PPD for 3ish months & I’m not going to try to force my wife to cloth. Fast forward: My daughter was 7 months old, My mental health was back to normal, We had a bit of a groove… it was time. I bought two 2nd hand diaper lots & got to work. We only use 2 disposables every night now. I can’t find a diaper insert combination that she won’t leak in over night. It kills me using the disposables over night, but I remind myself that we are still making a massive difference for the planet by cloth diapering the rest of the time.

Its based on the idea that babies will sleep when they need and teaches you to trust sleep pressure and the Circadian Rhythm. I was so worried about sleep and it was the most stressful thing for me as a nanny and then a mom. Question! Are there any cloth diapers that you can put on while your LO is standing up? We really wanted to use cloth diapers, but my daughter had TERRIBLE acid reflux and laying on her back even for diaper changes caused her pain, so we switched to the smallest disposable pull-ups we could find at around 6 months. Also, my 19 month old is SUPER chunky, and I feel like the cloth diapers cause painful spots on her legs - any ideas? We are trying for our second, and I'd love to just be able to use cloth diapers with the next one, and with our little one before she is potty trained! TIA!

We are more or less in the same boat (2 years and four months old son and 3 months old daughter here). How is the jealous going now? I’m still waiting for improvement here. I need to be always around to avoid any accidents. It can turn quickly from a hug and kiss to ‚I scratch, slap or pull on a feet‘.
Potty is a subject here too but I don’t want to force on it, as there is already so much going on in his life. Our little one peed twice in the potty already after the afternoon nap.
