Lady Link sprite hack by ArchAngelleofJustice: www.romhacking.net/hacks/3415/
This week on Sunday Longplay, I'm playing a ROM hack for one of my favorite NES games that's been in the works for two and a half years and just saw its final release three days ago, combined with another sprite hack somebody else made for it. Welcome to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link Redux!
The original Zelda II was notorious for its high difficulty level. Zelda 2 Redux rebalances the game to make it more manageable for average gamers, makes some QoL changes, and adds some extra visual flair to the game. See the full list of changes at the hack's webpage above.
There are also optional supplemental patches for this hack including restoring some of the original game's mechanics to retain the original difficulty level with the new graphical style, a new experience system similar to icepenguin's "Journey of a Day" and "Shadow of Night" hacks (I still need to play Shadow of Night one of these days!), and a few others. In fact, one hacker who made a female Link sprite hack for the base Zelda II game recently updated it to make a female Link sprite hack for Zelda 2 Redux, so I'm combining that with the Redux hack for this Sunday Longplay!

Zelda ii the adventure of link on the nes is my most absolute favorite legend of zelda game of all time and this was a really fun game to watch and play
Zelda 2 is one of those games that doesn't deserve all the crap it gets. I always try to play through it once a year.
This is really not that hard at all, it's just the patterns and enemy behavior that everyone couldn't get used to for the longest time
@@Dark_Wolf0626 There was a lot to Link that was difficult that didn't improve the player's enjoyment of the game. Monsters that stole XP, random "wandering damage", the totally useless Link dolls... The industry hadn't learned the difference between "This is a rewarding challenge" and "This is just kicking the player in the face for no reason"
@@lestgo7950 The Palace theme in particular is one that I'd consider one of the most legendary tunes in the NES library.
@@talyrath how are the link dolls completely useless? They give extra lives. Are 1ups in SMB1 useless too?
When over the years, Zelda 2 has seen so much love how do you measure your minority opinion as the game designers kicking the players with their creation? The proof of all the love is the many, many rom hacks for Z2.
Truly, I respect differing opinions and yours included. But I don't understand your line of thinking here at all.
My favorite Zelda game by far. I play it at least once a year. This looks like they added an easy mode to an already good game. Not sure if I like the heart life bar.
I do like how the music for enemy encounters changes to the Famicom version when on the other side of the sea.
Now.. This is great. Thank you.
Really wish they had finally fixed Link’s sword to not be flesh colored. Other than that, there are few changes I’d have made that the makers didn’t mention altering themselves that I can think of. But I am excited about the new alternative paths in the Great Palace.
The female Link is very cute!
Agreed. Well done
It also proves that Nintendo could've also had a cross on Link's shield in Zelda 2 but chose not to
And I also like this sword better than the OG
@@adventureoflinkmk2 I agree. Loved Z 2 back in the day, but I always did think the sword wasn't clear enough.
Link "hottadanamothafucka"

Looks awesome.
It really does. I love the new HUD.
What a lovely Zelda 2 hack.
It really is. I love the new graphical aesthetics.
If I remember, when fighting 1 of the Bosses the Lines that you see on the left side of the screen is how much Life the Boss has remaining.
Most magic in this version seem to be alot cheaper. So this is the tutorial version of the official release more or less
Pretty much. Enhanced sprites and more accessible difficulty for people who found the original game too hard.
There are also patches that put the cost back to normal. There's mods for mods and tweaks for tweaks.
@@MetalSmasherGaming now that I'm an adult, I don't think it would be too hard for me but I do like fewer dead ends and stuff that makes battling a slog.
Couple things I would suggest to the hack authors (hackers?): The restored FDS music used on the East continent should only play when fighting the two mounted Iron Knuckles in the sixth palace (and maybe Thunderbird, if possible). Also, when the Lady Link sprite is used, change her sound (when she takes damage) to use the one from the original Zelda to give her a more feminine voice.
So it's Zelda 2 The Adventure of Linkle
Kind of, except this sprite's hairstyle and hair color is different than Linkle's was in Hyrule Warriors.
They really went all out tweaking a lot of the nuances to this game. Just the tweaks done to Link's sword and beams alone makes this tempting to try.
Everything else that was added is super nice...
I'm curious as to what the Secrets.ips is???
I might have to give it a try and show it off in a later video.
Yeah what is that?
pretty much sums up all the remakes of the past couple years. turn the male lead role into a female lead role and call it a day.
That is a separate mod he added for fun. There is a lot of interesting things going on with Redux.
@@MegaMato yeah it was supposed to be a joke. mabey just wasnt funny.
Ah, sorry I misunderstood.
@@joe-di6zf dude honestly I thought you were making an observation - and a particularly accurate one at that.
Proof everywhere; Ghostbusters with all female cast, Rey in Star Wars etc. Mind you I don't care, but yes this is the current trend.
Why isn't it Linka saving Zeldo?
Good question. If Link can be gender-bent, why can’t Zelda?
@@MetalSmasherGaming all characters need to, as ballance
Maybe looks a little bit like Daria.
Give her glasses and undo the ponytail and I could see it.
It's linkle
"Linka"
There actually is a female Link in Hyrule Warriors named Linkle, but she looks nothing like this sprite.
Let's hear it for lesbians!
2:35:21 - ooooo so sexy.
What the actual fuck is wrong with you?
Lesbians. 😏
If there’s a girl Zelda then why not a boy zelda
I'm sure someone's already made artwork of it, but yeah, it would be interesting to see a full gender-flip hack sometime.
Yawn. What's the point?
To make the game more accessible to those who found the original game too hard. I have no problem with the original game, personally, though.
