This week on Sunday Longplay, it's another ROM hack for one of my favorite NES games of all time. Welcome to Zelda 2: The Triforce of Courage!
This hack creates a brand-new overworld for the land of Hyrule as well as new overworld battle scenes and new rooms for the palaces (although the general map layouts are the same as in the original game), and also incorporates the redesigned sprites and some quality of life improvements from Zelda 2 Redux, including no longer losing EXP to certain enemies, faster text, manual saving with controller 1, and not having manual saves count against you on the death counter.
Speaking of EXP, the numbers needed to level up your stats are higher than in the original game, though level 8 Attack and Magic provide larger bonuses to your attack power and spell efficiency. Also, enemies and bosses take more hits to kill but also provide more EXP. So it's kind of a trade-off thing.

I am UltimaWeapon. Thanks for playing my hack. I enjoyed this video. Here's a tip in case you decide to play it again. When you enter the Great Palace and take the elevator down, go "right" instead of left. At the very top of the last room to the right, there's a false wall that is a shortcut to skip most of the palace.
I didn’t know that. That’s good to know!
Dude! Why have a fire spell when shield already includes it?! Was that a troll or do you have to include it for some reason?
Wow. I love the redone sprites.
Me too. It's amazing what the ROM hacking community is capable of.
Wait... they are not Nintendo approved though.
Remember that if you hear Boomerang Sounds, that means that a Goriya is somewhere nearby.
That was a very nice hack. Good leveling. ^^
Thanks for playing. Great job.
i love the starting with up and downstab, i hated having to slowly walk through hyrule just to learn how to put my sword below me while jumping
I love how the enemies look different
The new sprites are definitely well done.

GREAT ROMHACK. This is what we should have gotten back then. I ran into a issue of the screen going black at a certain spot after I get the raft no matter how many times I reload state. Still a great game
2:28:42 I love how, when the lights come on, it's now lava.
The illusion has been dispelled!
That final boss fight was actually pretty intense
Yeah, the original Zelda 2 had an exploit to make the final boss really easy that the design of most Z2 ROM hacks doesn't allow for, and the fight is always intense when doing it legit.
I like the new sprites! It appears Links sword is slightly longer.
But does it actually have more attack reach than the old sprite too?
Also interesting that this hack has you already start off knowing the down thrust and up thrust.
And Shield also applies the effect of Fire I see?? That’s strange.
I guess the creator wanted to make this hack more accessible to people who thought the original Zelda 2 was too hard. And yeah, I like the new sprites too. They definitely look a lot more polished.
@@MetalSmasherGaming - I wanted newbies and pros alike to be able to pick up and play this hack. I wanted to offer something a little different yet not be hard. Kaiju hacks annoy me, and I didn't want anyone rage quitting. I wanted it to still be fun.
@@dayronemitchell6972 very understandable. I don’t really like Kaizo hacks either, but I still enjoy hacks that are harder than the original game while still being fair.
Best yet so I'll share a idea with you. Link and dark link fight takes place at the title screen
That would be an interesting idea!
@@MetalSmasherGaming That would be an elevator ride
Kudos to the mod developer for speeding up the message text.
Yeah, that was one of the more annoying things in the original game.
Damn, the first enemies are freaking Dairas xD
Edit after watching the whole video: The difficulty is high at first, though having the downward thrust from the start helps to balance it a bit, though again after reaching the highest levels it becomes really easy, since you can pretty much spam the Shield+Reflect+Fire combo by just 4 mana while Life and Thunder cost barely one single 16-mana unit!
One bad point on the hack is how it puts locked doors without keys with the only possible way to bypass them is using the Fairy spell which might be some sort of glitch.
How are all these "remakes" made?
47:13 Link slowly jumps down a hallway backwards.
5:12 That moment when you're like "I hope this is a red potion and not a Darknut"
Meh, I can handle either one, though I much prefer the potion (except if I only need 100 XP to level up, then give me the enemy!).
How exactly does one make a ROM hack? I'm from the Atari-super NES era, and I want to slowly carefully design and implement a really just ludicrously well made Zelda 2 rom hack. I mention it here because when it is finished (if I ever even get to start it), I would like metalsmashergaming to play it.
I don't know anything about making a ROM hack, but yeah, if you ever learn how to make one I'd love to play it.
@@MetalSmasherGaming I'll compose a design document, then work from there. The main differences are slated to be; more side quests, more informative dialog, more versions of enemies / enemy behavior significantly different, and more events for Magic Cross, Flute, and the 'spell' spell.
@@aputridpileofb-movies6542 All sound like welcome additions.
Most of the time, in the original Zelda II, once I get to Death Mountain, my Levels would usually be the following.
Attack: 5
Magic: 4
Life: 4
It’s always good to be prepared.
I found a curling iron under the table. I hope this will get me the BFG.
I found a hair dryer under the table. Crucible Blade, here I come!
49:04 Nooooooo. Should have canceled the level up and put the jewel xp into attack.
Looking back on it now, that probably would have been the better option.
@@MetalSmasherGaming Yeah but this game gave you tons of xp anyway so I guess it really didn't matter too much
17:20 = SPLINTERRRRRRRRRRRR
1:57:18 Oh hell no! Please cast jump! I almost died right there!
@MetalSmasherGaming = 100 % I Love watching this game on CZcams :) But I Would like to play this game = Nintendo NES version ? That is possible ?
I don't think anybody's made an NES cartridge of this hack yet.
What is wrong with Link? He looks like a hunched back Pinocchio 😳 🤣
I just remark a thing about the Road to the Great Palace = 2:17:33 = if Link advances the screen 📺 will be black and the game doesn’t work and it’s a bog on NES 🥶 I know because I have this game now and my trick = Link can pass on water and Link does continue the Road to the Great Palace at the 2 blacks caverns in the Left corner to access the Great Palace 💪🍀🔝
How do I play this?
I left a link to download the patch file in the description. On the same website there is a patching tool that you can use to apply the patch to a base Zelda 2 ROM.
2:21:32. The random fokka committing suicide!
They may be really hard to kill by your own hands, but when the stage allows it, you can easily let the stage kill them just like that!

日本語版はないんだろうが、面白そう
Why the abbreviations for simple words like you and your? Turning them into u and ur?
Why did you upload this in the incorrect aspect ratio
