    It's 2020, the "working from home" era, so I'll spend some weekends pampering the V-Rod.
    Many thanks for this video, couldn't be explained any clearer! I will now look for your vids on oil and coolant changes.
    Many thanks!!

    DOT 5 brake fluid is silicone based & doesn't absorb moisture from the air & was the brake fluid H-D used on NON ABS brake bikes. they found that the DOT 5 fluid didn't work well w/ ABS - it's compressible & forms air bubbles from the fast ABS activation. that is why on post 2003 bikes, H-D switched to DOT 4. it works better w/ ABS, but does absorb moisture from the air like all other brake fluids. DOT 5.1 is similer to DOT 4 - - - - - DO NOT USE DOT 5 in the bike if the cap says DOT 4 - not compatible

    Outstanding instruction video. Thanks for saving me a ton of money. The HD dealer will not get me on the 5000 tune up; thanks again.

      I used to do it myself on my car, but for the V rod i was like blah what ever i will let them do it...then they told me $460 to $485 i was like yea that is BS i will do it myself i went with the bike all the way down to LA did a 800 miles trip not only it ran really smoothly but i felt the clutch way more smooth and the engine and gears were passing better than before.... i also find out when i did the change of break fluid that the dealer put DOT 3 and a really bad quality one. the one i put make the breaking totally more effective and waaaaaay better...like when i had my old bike and change the break system from stock to some brambo upgraded ones i felt exactly the same better and more effective break i reduce the breaking distance of 25 to30 % I was impressed I will never bring my VROD to any one for the services!!! plus with half the money i had enough to buy breaking and clutch liquid, oil, new oil filter, a usb conector and the bleeder pump for 250 half what they were asking !!!

    Dot4 and Dot5 are not compatible, 4 & 5.1 are. If you want to use 5, flush the lines/system completely. That aside, seals and o rings are not mere cheap rubber in a lot of cases, they're formulated for specific liquids. If HD says put only 4 in there and you think you know better, they'll throw any related warranty issue in your face when they see you went outside the recommendations.
    If HD thought they could get away with recommending dot5 (and charging more for it) they would have.

      @andrzejraczynski1896 Před 8 lety

      That, and from what I gather, dot5 doesn't play all that well with ABS.

      +Andrzej Raczynski after a 2 years of having DOT 5 the bikes run perfectly the pressure is better than the DOT 4, and for the abs the electronics adapts amazingly well is been 2 years and it works fine plastics are like new!!!

    Hi Paul, Great instructional video. is it possible to have a list of the products (liquids and pumps) that you were using in these videos for the clutch and brake changing?.. t

    • @PaulArys
      @PaulArys  Před 9 lety

      fouad Badr absolutely I used a clutch break pump i purchase from amazon it's branded Bosch but I really took the cheapest one, I bought it for around 25usd. and then for the clutch liquid and break i went with a good quality Silicone DOT 5 liquid that i bought from CycleGear banded Shell Ray. the bran Purple is really good too.

    Hi buddy really good job and thanks a million dude u just let me save about 600$
    I just have to get the bleeder and the proper tools. I wanna know what's the best oil I use for clutch.
    Would u plz make video on how to add liquid to the radiator.
    Don't forget the engine oil change video ☺️😁😊
    Again thank a lot dude

    • @PaulArys
      @PaulArys  Před 9 lety

      lord shadi For the Clutch and breaks i used DOT5 liquid which is a little bit more expensive but the quality is amazing, DOT 4 can do the job too, DOT 3 works but would not recommend it. now for oil I put high quality oil for V rod.
      Next maintenance I will change oil again, change coolant. tight the belt, and inspect everything i will posted when is due.

    Thanks, summarized what my Service Manual says to do. FYI the manual calls for DOT4 for 2005+ newer models and DOT5 for 2004.... I wouldn't go against Manufacturer recommendations because you believe DOT5 is better, any benefits aren't worth the risks. Other than that, thanks for the video.
    *note* Doing work yourself instead of an authorized Harley technician could also potentially void your warranty. I have ESP and they can be dicks when it comes to this.

    my clutch is not working it has been parked for a year due to Covid19.
    If I bleed my clutch fluid would it work?

  • @frankierwhereyouralwaysast903

    I have a 2003 vrod. Feels like my clutch lever has almost nothing left to change gears. Is this bad fluid or my clutch is almost dead ?

  • @anthonybuffalari7274
    @anthonybuffalari7274 Před 10 lety +1

    i dont have a bleeder valve screw on my '03, just a phillips head screw (m5-8 thread size) and an o-ring. i cant get the lever to get pressure (get the air out)

    • @PaulArys
      @PaulArys  Před 10 lety

      so you got air in the system correct? the best thing to do there is just pure the entire liquid out, put the screw back on.... add new liquid... give it a couple of pump on the lever and keep adding liquid as needed on the reservoire. let the reservoire open and give a couple of pumps from time to time and keep adding liquid nature will do the rest the bubbles wil get out by them self as long as you give a couple of pumps on the lever from time to time and adding the liquid in the reservoire. it probably will take half day all day but it will have new liquid and the bubbles will get out eventually. just keep pumping from time to time and add luquid never let the reservoire be empty...
