Thank you for great instructional vids.
I did not pay attention to inch. pound vs. foot pound. I rang driver side filter bolt off. Would you just leave it or would you try to remove and fix. The other two bolts are in

Another good vid man, is Amazon trustworthy for truck parts?
I’m always worried of knockoff junk
Thank you sir. Changed my fluid and filter on my early '11 F350 6.2l at 152,xxx miles two weeks ago. All looked perfect. Lots of heavy towing at high elevation at high speeds. Very pleased with 6R140. Added 11.25 qts Mercon LV. Fluid really pink again, truck still shifting perfect, no leaks. Cheers!
Really helpful since I have same setup. Thanks.
how can you tell what transmission you have?@@TheTricky04
Just changed my trans fluid on my 2017 F250 PowerStroke. I Followed your exact steps and it was spot on! I ended up adding 8 qts. Initially. Then the 1/2 qt and eventually the rest of the qt for a total of 9 qts with drain and filter. 💯 Thank you!
Thanks for that precise info! I like that a lot. I am going to do mine on my 18 F350 and was curious on the refill amount. I knew mine on my 7.3 with draining the converter but will be first time for this truck.
My friend works for ComEd as a mechanic and he said 8-9 quarts and they do theirs every year. He said it's overkill but they don't mess around and they have not had one trans failure yet.
Thanks for keeping a retired Ford tech up to date. Always a great video!
My 2017 F350 spent some time in Canada, so she's got a bit of corrosion, specifically around the oil pan. Time for the fluid change (104k miles, getting ready to tow cross country) and so far 2 bolts have broken on the pan removal alone.
Joy.
Wound up with five broken and completely frozen. No choice but to drill/tap them out to 1/4-20. What a headache.
Shoot, wish I saw the link to the Mercon LV a few days ago when I bought a case for the Fusion.
Thanks for another vid, Brian. Taking Ford mechanics to the level of art.
Thank you for this very well done video. I just completed my 2nd fluid change on my 2017. Dropped the pan both times (no drain plug). The first was at 30k and the 2nd at 65k. I replaced the the filter on the 2nd change. Added 10 qts LV first change and 10.5 second change with filter.
Great video instruction as usual FordTechMakuloco. I recently bought a 2012 F350 SD 6.7L and am in the process of changing out all the fluids. I already followed your video on the transfer case drain and fill, and was excited to see this video. Please do more 6.7 and super duty vids.
💯
One of our local Ford techs didn't replace the magnet in our Freestyle's trans pan. I only found out after replacing the pan recently. That's why I do everything myself from now on.
Awesome video, perfect amount of details and great camera work!
Great video. Was gonna take it to the dealer after getting on some forums with conflicting info. Doing it myslf now. Thanks
I have a 2015 F450, 6r140W, 16.7 quartz of atf. Great video.
Thank you for a good and easy to understand vid. You have a clear and concise way of explanation. I just subscribed.
always good to see a new vid from you. excellent stuff you put out.
Great video! The only thing I would add is to be sure the filter o-ring came out with the old filter.
Good point about always use the "lower reading" thanx for taking time to make video.
Excellent vlog... Thanks for your time and the education.
Excellent video, so descriptive. You answered my questions, thanks!
Very clear useful instruction. Helped a lot. Thanks.
Another excellent, high quality video. Thank you.
Great information getting ready to do my 2016 E-450 RV soon. Thanks.
Getting ready to do my 2016 f350.
This video helps a ton btw...ty
Such a well done video. Thank you
awesome love my 2015 f250! keep up with the great videos!
Damm bro your so detail..and clean work too merry Christmas
Good video as always. At least they still include a dipstick on the SuperDutys! I sure wish they'd use an external spin on filter like Chevy does with their Duramax diesel/transmissions, would be easier but then again you'd never get the bottom of the pan and magnet cleaned if you never dropped it I suppose. Mercon LV is some strange stuff, seems to get really dirty (in appearance) and smelly fast.....on our couple vehicles that use it I definitely try to keep after the fluid changes about 30-40k.
Since I don't feel like going through the bizarre level checking procedure on our 6F35s I just carefully measure what comes out cold on a drain and add the exact same back of new in since theres no removable pan, filter, or dipstick but of course thats not really applicable on this particular truck or video...lol.
Just got my 2012 f-350 completely rebuilt by someone who knew what they were doing. Drove it for about an hour and I can smell burnt fluid again even inside the cab while stopped. No leaks, smell is strong from the dipstick tube. New fluid still looks good, just stinks.
Pro tip: I just did this job on my 2011 F-250. It’s been done several times before, so this time the oil plug didn’t seal and left a stain the size of a basketball on my driveway. I got a new plug and it sealed fine. The old one had developed a flat spot on the raised rubber ridge. While this is all a good thing, bc it means the ATF has been changed often, you may need a new plug. The reusable pan gasket sealed bone dry without a problem.
Awesome video! Lots of help thank you!
Clear and very well explained, thank you for the info, well done 👍🏻
Thumbs up.I look forward to information about the 2018 10r80 tranny. There's nothing in my F150 owners manual. I still watch your other works. Thanks.
is it possible you can help me out and let me know exactly where the output shaft sensor is located on that particular transmission I greatly appreciate it
Great video with great explanation.
Great video!! Just changed mine today. Started with 8 quarts and the dip stick was showing over full one side and very little. Put a couple more in and its anyone's guess what its reading. Its just like the engine oil dip stick. Blotchy high on one side low etc. I drained it into a big wash tub so I went and measured it all. 10 quarts came out so that's what I put back in.
just did mine today and your correct BULLSHIT dipstick lol. im at 8 and it looks overfilled. going to let it rest overnight and see what the heck it looks like. we put a man on the moon but cant get a clear dipstick reading...go figure
@@bradley-concrete . I measure what comes out and put the same amount of new in. If you don't you have no clue how much is in it
I've never gotten a good reading from my transmission dipstick either. Pretty much just lets me know fluid is in there.
I have been using your videos to assist me in repairing my Ford trucks for several years , so thank you for all the help you have provided . Growing up in the 60s and 70s muscle car era , I like most started hot rodding and changing motors literally under an oak tree. I started working for the power company in a Nuclear plant at age 20 and first went through an apprenticeship to become an industrial mechanic and also became a ASME certified Welder, a decade or so later I went through another apprenticeship to become an machinist/ toolmaker. Just retired after 42 years. Needless to say I have never been fond of taking my vehicles anywhere to be worked on because I'm almost always disappointed with the poor quality and general lack of knowledge in the field. I can say most Ford mechanics at Florida dealerships I've dealt with only ever got my business once. I have moved recently after retiring to a cooler climate in the mountains of east Tennessee , hopefully I can find a great technician like yourself here, at 63 I'm getting tired of pulling motors and laying under my trucks especially the diesels lol. Anyway I have a a technical question I'm getting a PO500 code (VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor) and I'm having trouble even finding any info on its location , on my 2012 F-350 Dually Diesel its Fx4 with AT . Any help would as always be appreciated.
Ford trucks forum
That helped a lot. Thank you for the hard work.
Thanks for another great informative video, as the owner of a new 2018 F-350 Powerstroke I'm really thankful for your videos, please keep up with the super duty vid's! As a side note on the all new 2017&up super duty's Ford ditched the drain plug altogether on the 6R140 which is really annoying so I suppose full pan drop with a lot of mess is the only way to do a change on the new rigs.
Yeah I'm about to do my 18 350 and i hate not having a plug!
They make catch pans for doing transmissions that can go over you oil catch pan. Big plastic square or rectangle. It helps but is also one more thing to have taking up space in the garage.
I have had a couple vehicles without plugs and it was messy. I would loosen them all a bit but then focus a little more on one corner taking my time to let it out slowly but be careful so you don't have too much weight on one side and vend the pan.
We have a 19 model 550 wrecker we bought used, was going through changing fluids and no drain on the pan, the first thing we done was find a pan with a drain plug, I don't know what site they got it from but they had to get info from another year model, Ford didn't offer any. Took the old pan off matched up the new one and it's the same with a drain plug.
Incredible video
Good video. Do you have a video on the valve body replacement?
Hey 2012 f350 6.7 dually. I’m having hard shifts in and out of 6th, and into 4th from 5th. It used to be fine. Would you say I should start to look at shift solenoids?
any benefit/danger in putting additional rare earth magnets on the bottom of the outside of the tray similar to how some folks put oil filter magnets on?
whats the difference with 6.2 f250 trany and 6.2f350 from what i know its the same but with different computer calibrantions for better gas mileage.
GREAT Video as usual, my "early 09-10 production date" 2011 6.2 has exhaust that runs side to side on the back side of trans, and there are 2 bolts that will not come out because they hit exhaust which is only about 3/4" away form pan. Have you seen this?
I have a 13 f550 with very rough shifting between 1st and 2nd, do you think that transmission stiction modifier like hotshots secret will help?
My range sensor "neutral safety switch" went out, I know its internal on the driver side. I replaced it and now have no response. Any pointers? Could you do a video on this? Mine is a 2016 f350 6.7 platinum with 120k.
what did you do with the gasket? i didn't see you put it back on
Like to see a video on 6r140 speed senser replacement, for input/ output sensors
Well done sir, thanks for this
Great video, Thanks!
Do you do this when it's hot or cold?
Thanks!
Nice job with the video Brian
Do you have any videos on the 6r100 transmission? I have a 2017 F250 6.2 gas
Brian I seen 7 Solenoid connectors when you removed the Oil Pan. 6Speed means 6forward 1reverse gear?
If I see a DTC for Transmission Solenoid3 malfunctioning; how could I indicate which one is 3rd? or just unplug the connector and see back at Scanner for updated DTC?
Also if AutoTransmission Fluid is leaking minor, TCM or ECU will generate any DTC at low fluid level?
I have a 2015 f250 and i have a leak from the line any idea what ones the main or return line?
When adding the 1/2 quart of LV following the initial fill, do you leave the engine running while adding additional LV?
Are the 2017 6R140s thermostatic controlled?
Do you recommend a mag-hytec trans pan for the torqshit?
How many quarts did it end up being I am gonna do my truck pan and filter 2016 f350 6.7
I’m confused a little. So a 2017 f250 would have the initial fill of 8 quarts? Or 10?
I have been watching a lot of your videos. Two specifically are the ones about transmission fluid drain and fills vs drain, flush, and fill. I liked your explanation you gave when you did the transmission that my escape has when you said you don't know what kind of fluid is in the machine that's doing the flush. In your opinion, you would just do the drain, filter and fill? I'm looking to do my super duty soon here. I am about 12000 miles late.
If I am doing a drain and fill, not a flush, how much atf will I need? I have a 17 f250 with the 6.7.
Here's one for you. I have a 2019 Ford E-450 and when I get to 65+ mph and let off the gas, I can hear a rattle noise coming from the floor board of the vehicle. Tech did a run test of the vehicle and found that the noise is coming from inside of the transmission. Any thought what is causing that. FYI, other than the noise coming at that speed (doesn't matter whether cold or hot) the transmission shifts smoothly. Thoughts of what might be going on
Ricardo from Costa Rica in a f 150 2005 4.6 2v. Thanks!
New Super Duty owner. I have a 6R140W in a 2019 F-250 4WD. Do I need to add any additional modifier fluids? Is the procedure exactly as this video? Thanks! Love your vids!
Yes thanks
Very nice explanation 👌, blessings.
How do you get the transmission to cycle through each gear?
Great video thank you
Great video. Thanks.
Good stuff. More ppl need to watch this. Might save them some headache and cash.
Thx for the vid. What’s with that plastic looking engine oil pan?
Great video
I drive a 2019 F350 with the 6.7. I tow a trailer with it 100 %. The trailer weighs 12k. How often do you recommend changing the fluid and filter? I do the oil every five thousand. What about the rear diff? I use BG fuel and oil treatment.
Any advice is appreciated.

How many quarts will my 2014 hold?
What about a transmission fluid flush that is done by a Ford dealer instead of dropping the pan?
Since you don’t have a video on the 5R110W, I’ll ask you
here. Is there a Ford approved method to flush the system? There is plenty of differing
opinions on the subject, but yours is the only one I trust. To tie you answer
into 6R140, may you could address the same question as it pertains to all
Torqshift transmissions. Thank you.
Thanks for doing this video.
I'm not sure you'll see this after all this time but I have a slight issue. I have a build date of 1-11 f350 and it has the newer dip stick. I pulled the filter and removed 8qts of fluid. upon reinstalling the fluid, I'm needing close to 10qts of fluid just to get close to be on the dip stick cold. My issue is getting a good fluid reading. I can see the level on the dip stick cold, and with the engine running that level is dropping. (maybe normal?). Where I'm having issues is reading the dip stick because the fluid is spread over it and not a clean read line. This is even after the truck has sat for a day so I would think any extra fluid is down the tube by now. Any suggestions on getting a clean read?
Thanks
I also was having a hell of a time getting a good reading on my 2011 SD. I used brake cleaner and sprayed the dipstick off, then inserted and pulled. Still hard to read, but I always took the lower reading. Its funny how difficult it is to make sure the fluid is correct, and for me, the hardest part of this job lol.
Which one of those is shift solenoid D?
Good Stuff, Great Tips😃👍🏿2016 F250 6.2L 6SpTran
So a 16 takes 8 quarts or dose it take 10 you just start with 8 ?
I'm looking at a 2015 f250 srw with 265,000. It was a business truck with it would appear a lot of highway miles. original engine and transmission. How reliable are these transmissions and is it worth buying, or should I just expect to replace either or both?
What the make for the 19 or 16 Pin Case Connector?
Hi I own a 2011 ford f450 super duty 6.7 powerstroke and I was wondering if you can tell me if I can install the ford 10 speed automatic transmission in it
Thanks Mario Marchigiano
What about the torque converter and oil cooler
Hi guy ......great video : I have a 2017 XLT Ranger . I took it for its first free service yesterday (only got 3000km on the clock) .I asked if they were going to replace the transmission oil .They said they have no schedule for replacing the transmission oil ......this is an official Ford dealer in the Philippines . I couldnt believe what i was hearing .Seems like they never touch transmissions over here . Im doing all my own maintenance from now on for obvious reasons . Can you suggest a maintenance schedule for me to follow on this item . Many thanks .
Going to try this tomorrow on my 2013 with 160k on it, very informative video !
How did it go???

Hi i Have a 2012 F-350 Super Duty 6.7L Diesel Lariat I want to see about Getting a Aluminum Trans Pan That Holds 2-3 quarts more Trans Oil, does the Filter Stay the Same or Extension Tube
6R140. Can you show how to replace neutral safety switch?
Is this the same transmission on a gas 2wd?
Great video! I'd like to point out that the 3 bolts that hold the filter in are different lengths, two are the same and one is longer (I have a 2016 F250 6.7 diesel). I only had a foot pound torque wrench and tried converting that to inch pounds (97 inch pounds = 8ish foot pounds) and managed to snap one of the smaller filter bolts. Be more careful using a torque wrench with foot pounds than I was!
was the longer bot the front hole
@@Loren-ee8ri yes
Thanks for that! Didn’t notice the length until i was going in with it.
Oh, how's your new shop coming along?
is that a plastic oil pan on that truck?
does this apply to any super duty? I have a 2015 6.7 wanting to do this. filter change and fluid.
Do you know the e4od transmission converter drain plug torque spec.? Also how do you feel about using Mercon V?

Thanks for your videos. I have a question? I have a 2009 F-150 xlt and when I Break for a stop sign or breaking in general, it vibrates very bad. Do you have a video on this? What could be the issue? Thanks.
jesus garcia sounds like it could be warped rotors...
good video
Crazy how the drain is above the lowest pan bottom level.
Kinda like Duramax oil pan with the hump but 1 drain bolt
I know that in this case the pan was removed for a filter swap. But the recommendation of 30k drain and fill, you leave alot inside old fluid
My trans temp keeps showing like minus 22 dog and weird readings causing a sudden down shift trans temp sensor probably the cause
What’s a reasonable price for this service performed at a shop? The dealership where I bought my truck charges $300 for the torqueshift transmission “service.” Looks like a pretty easy Saturday project if you ask me. Maybe they’re doing something different?
