  • I'm playing on Chess.com -- these aren't sponsored videos but the site seems pretty cool.
Chess has been having a resurgence in popularity this year so I have finally acquiesced to semi-popular demand and started to play a bit. First, let's hone our skills and get a little more warmed up and then let's conquer chess dot com one board gamer at a time.

I mean he has been playing for literal years, just with a huge gap between childhood and now.
I personally would love to see NL give 5D Chess another crack, and just take the five minutes to read through the instructions first.
I feel that the initial video didn't go well because it was becoming popular at the time and with everything moving so fast in real life, NL didn't have the time read a big list of instructions on a game for a 'let's look at' style video.
Coupled with being worried about how the community would view chess (NL said numerous times that he would never play chess on stream or CZcams) he was already hesitant the video would not do well.
Now we are further on and chess is Pogging. NL is really good at this game! And the community digs it no matter what. Plus there's a routine around his new streaming schedule.
I pray for redemption and seeing 5D chess again. I think it would be huge to play on Twitch to have that instant feedback.

@@captainevy3133 its definitely incredibly rare but engines aren't perfect. For example engines dont really like gambits because your giving up something. "Ask not what your pieces can do for you, ask what you can do for your pieces." -GM William Hartston
NL, just a tip for endgames in general: Stop seeing pawns as a way to count points. You're consistently missing dozens of easy wins because you don't look to activate your pieces and recognize your assets (in case of the last game, an outside passed pawn that your opponent would've had to give up his knight for if only you had attempted to push it) before "putting pressure on" pawns. In this case, your poor rook stood on the g-file biting on granite, so your opponent was playing as if he had an extra piece instead of being down the exchange. If you actively search for pieces that aren't doing much for you and activate them (e.g. bringing your rook to the c-file to cut off the opponent's king from your passed pawn), you should see a major improvement in win percentage and those wins should also be much swifter.
