I admire that guy who wrote on walls ""you son of a bitch leader, you destroy the country and people starving while you live in luxury" (or something like that). I hope 1000s more get courage to do that and this will spell the downfall of Kim dynasty.
Thanks for showing and explaining these pictures of life in North Korea. How terrible life is so hard. To be punished for not putting the portraits of the Kim's first before your own life is just outrageous. Hopefully this helps people understand what life is like in North Korea and the brutality the face from the regime.

Praying doesn't help them, it prove throughout history, the christians people's is another variant of dictators, and christian people's ruined everything more than do the good things, in there illusions, they think that praying can make some gods reply them, it is spiritually nonsense. That is the problems of christians people's, they want free dom, but they asking help from an dictator religious symbol, your people's so ignorance.
@@beyonderssupreme No is it just leftist dream land, all is owned by government all even the people themselves, all is owned except working class ( elites) is final form what Marx want.
@@Gromkiii no hun. Marxism is the ideal of everyone getting the same opportunities. This is a place that was made to benefit only one person, u cannot compare both
@@simmerproductions9359 That simply is not true, or you never read Marx or you are just ignorant, it is in Marx writhing that farmers and Borguase are in servitude of the working class, this is why famine in Ukraine was accepted and 8 mill farmers die. Also, Marx wrote, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs". Simply put if you are capable to do something, you need to work for somebody who is not. I will tell you how was done in practice this rule in my home country of former Yugoslavia. When somebody has a business, the government took it from owners and say to them, you are capable to run the business so you must work as before when you are been business owner, but you will have the same salary as an ordinary worker, first, you will need to sign in a party if not when you will do something wrong will be your responsibility if you will be in the party then OK. Naturally, the business owner didn't spend all days working as before for nothing. Farmers were taken farms in collective (zadruga) run buy party members and all tractors bought with great efforts from some farmers, were just for everybody to use. Just previous owners need to care for them meanwhile all people could take tractors and they destroy them really quickly. Soon nobody didn't take care of anything, similar as in democratic cities in the USA. it was another socialist leftist story elites (working class) were in total control and enjoyed the good life and all others were drunk from alcohol. In the end, we have the Balkan war.
You should also see some of the bad pictures of America, truly also a hellish place. 😂
When you showed the picture of the shop with empty shelves it reminded me of Estonia in 1990 before it got out of the Soviet Union. There was a big shopping center but inside it the huge hall was almost empty. The that put the desks from corner to corner in one direction. Behind the desks were 10 women, but all that they had to sell put together was 5 pieces of bread and 10 pieces of meat/fat - and that was all! If you visit the same shopping center today there are 10 shops and all of them are filled with goods. This is the difference between communism and capitalism.
It was also caused me to remember a "Grocer's" shop in 1982 in East Berlin with only a withered potato in the shop window.
They say that if you put a Communist in charge of a Desert, soon you will have a shortage of sand.
Communists never change.
Communists always lie.
I thought north Korea was fascist, what's the difference between faschism and communism?
@@georgiannmartinez8547 Communism is more of an economic structure than a government ideology. The irony is that Communism cannot be enforced without a totalitarian/fascist Government.
It reminds me of my country Venezuela too, especially some years ago, stores were quite empty, I remember having to queue to get some bread and that still happens, you will get food in many stores now but it is not like everyone will have enough money for that, food is hardly accesible.
I do hope one day your country is free from this tyranny and free from these evil people.
tyranny that's a nice word
Can you imagine seeing someone’s hose that just burned down, and they are sitting in the street half dead from smoke inhalation, and they are covered in soot with no clothes on clutching their pictures of the Kims? What a cruel existence.
Yeonmi is a gem of the United States. She brings us a first person view of what "life" is like for subdued humans of N. Korea. These are people who, as humans, deserve freedom and life.
yes, in the precise moment we were able to get her heard by people influential. thinking was that USA needed assistance. best way to get help is to give help. by even just by the Americans with access to vast resources hearing and thinking and conversation of the message of liberation of north Korean people that process triggers an awareness that USA was hanging from the communist ledge..
As a daughter of a South Korean mom who was born at the very beginning of the Korean War and the formation of the 38th Parallel, I love to listen to your accounts of the inner workings and bravery of North Koreans. My mom had an aunt and uncle who defected to Russia. And I am immensely proud to be a first born generation in America for such a strong culture. I wish you much success in the future.
That says a lot, "defected to Russia".

I heard Yeonmi Park speak in Pittsburgh some years ago and she is well worth listening to and it is incredible what she has overcome.
What did she come to this inbred, shit hole, yinzer city for? Did she wear a Steelers jersey? That's all the inbreds care about anyway. Pittsburgh is almost on par with North Korea anyway. These Polacks worship communist and dictatorship regimes. It reminds them of the old country. Throw the Irish and Germans in there too!
Keep up the amazing work, Yeonmi. Thank you for all you do to spread awareness for these poor people. I'm so glad you will be getting your gold CZcams plaque very soon. 😊
Dear Yeonmi, I want to tell you that I'm so proud of you and the amazing work that you are doing. Keep pushing❤
So, I can confirm your pictures as the reality of communism. I have seen the same thing with my own eyes in Estonia when it was still part of the Soviet Union. But in 1991 Estonia already had got so much taste of a life in freedom through visits in the West, that they decided to leave the Soviet Union no matter the cost, and in 1992 they succeeded together with the two other Baltic countries to take down the entire Soviet Union. This is why Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians do not fear communist empires like CCP china.
Or totalitarianism... i think communism as an idealogy by marx was very pure and notging like this. Also there are a lot of middle eastern countries kindof having a system like this, and tbey wont see tgwirselves as communist but islamists. They are noth however totalitarian regimes. So i think that is tge debomenator

This is shocking. I honestly don't know much about this situation. Can you do a video explaining why the North Korean dictatorship is allowed to get away with this and what's stopping the rest of the world from intervening and stopping it?
everyone keeps own business. politicians dont want to start another not their war.
China, if you touches NK China and leftist will eat you.
This is why (from wiki) "North Korea has a military nuclear weapons program and, as of early 2020, is estimated to have an arsenal of approximately 30 to 40 nuclear weapons and sufficient production of fissile material for six to seven nuclear weapons per year. North Korea has also stockpiled a significant quantity of chemical and biological weapons. "
WW 3 is why
@@AndrewBaba Politicians love starting wars. The difference with North Korea, is that they can't make money starting a war there
When I saw the pictures of the emaciated people it reminded me of Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime: people were forced to work but had no food. Together with the suppression 3 million people lost their lives during less than 5 years.
You should make a channel about all this reminds you of :)
Yeonmi is a very interesting presenter. She gives excellent and understandable explanations. I learn so much from her vlogs. Thank you, Yeonmi.
When you told me about the few cars in North Korea it reminded me of my first visit to Estonia in 1990. In Pärnu, a city with 50.000 people, there was in total perhaps 100 cars. People could not buy a car. I they had the money (very few had), they could order a car and then had to wait for months or years before they got it. Almost all the cars were in collective parking areas, no one had a car at their home, and they were stored in a metal box, a container with a roof.
After I read the book escape from camp 14 I became incredibly interested in what was going on in North Korea. I have two South Korean stepdaughters and I’m very interested in the Korean people. I really appreciate all the information that you give to us Yeonmi!
You are an amazing woman!!
A few seconds of typing "escape from camp 14 debunked" into an extremely well-known website (starts with "G") used for finding things on the Internet (I have to say it that way because I've found that saying it directly can result in automatic deletion of the comment) immediately netted me articles from The Guardian, The Washington Post and The New York Times in which the author of "Escape from Camp 14" has admitted that he changed key parts of his story.
There have been claims that a certain other self-promoting North Korean defector has also been inconsistent with parts of her own story, but, unlike the author of "Escape from Camp 14", has yet to admit it.
What MOS? 12B for me.
@@brucemcchundra8658 You should probably look into why Google is in such hot water right now. Pretty much every organization you've listed has lost a lot of credibility. Given my background in the intelligence community I would have to seriously question why anyone would try and defend North Korea.
@@PyroBlonde7777 There is a logical fallacy extant among the viewership here that any questioning of the consistency or accuracy of defectors' accounts of their experiences is an attempt at defending North Korea - a tribal "you're either with us [and our goddess] or against us" mindset. Such questioning is not an attempted defence of North Korea, but a wish to get at the uncontaminated truth. It does ordinary defectors no service that their own accounts might be called into question when high-profile defectors are later found to have modified or exaggerated aspects of their stories to make them more marketable.
@@brucemcchundra8658 There isn't an issue with the viewer base here. You offered up an opinion and a "claim" without any evidence. Then cited MSM outlets who have poor credibility. So far much of what she states is in line with what I've seen. So yes, I will question the validity of your claims.
Happy Valentine's Day Yeonmi!!!

Thank you for another educational NK video!
You are so insightful and seem to truly care about people and the future of the United States and even the world.
I simply do not understand why the U.S. and other super power’s don’t get together to eliminate the situation in North Korea. Your video continues to remind me how truly blessed I am to have been born and raised in the United States. I’m very moved by your journey and happy that you are free. I wish there were more who found freedom from the oppression in North Korea.
There's more than one free country (just so you know) but I "think" the reason is this: if someone were to happen to North Korea, such as the demise of their corrupt regime, China would be responsible for the North Koreans (for some reason.) This is why China doesn't interfere with North Korea and deports refugees back to North Korea. The Koreas (North and South) are still at war so the responsibly falls into China's hands.
This is a problem because if another country were to get involved to free North Korea (the USA for example) China would fight back so they won't have to deal with North Korea. To better understand this, from China's point of view it's like a failing business like Sears (North Korea) and a successful company like Amazon (China). If something were to happen to Sears then Amazon would be responsible for either rebuilding Sears, taking in their employees (and continue to pay them) or be forced to by the brand out of pocket, making it harder for Amazon to stay afloat.
"North Korea has a military nuclear weapons program and, as of early 2020, is estimated to have an arsenal of approximately 30 to 40 nuclear weapons and sufficient production of fissile material for six to seven nuclear weapons per year. North Korea has also stockpiled a significant quantity of chemical and biological weapons. " China would also intervene
If it were only that simple
If it was simply a war between North Korea and the United States, the USA would definitely win. However, you need to take into account the other countries. If we went to war, China would not sit idle and watch. What would Russia do? There would be lots of people here who would oppose our invading of another country, saying we should mind our own business. There's lots of other reasons too.
The answer is there's no money to make in a war with North Korea

@Larry Bear. Yes, Yeonmi is an eyewitness and in a court of law, an eyewitness account of events is the most unreliable testimony available. Yeonmi fits that role perfectly.
I was wondering about the freedom of movement in NK:
When moving from place to place in the same town, are there designated routes? Does the government know where you should be along your route at any particular time? Are you allowed to take a shortcut or go the scenic route? What if you get lost or have to turn back or if your route is blocked?

Hi Yeonmi - I have a question. How does NK keep track of every citizen’s “social status”? Is there a database they use? Or is it more of a scare tactic?
Love you Btw! 💖

Heartbreaking, how can the world let this happen to humans in 2022?
Because human nature is evil and pursues its own thing. That's why.
Are you able to battle evil on your own? No, you and I can't without being empowered first.
Fear, you can’t really do anything because North Korea got nuclear weapons and they can easily start the WW3 without an army.

It's so striking that everyone should hate the Kim's yet they still remain in power. It's like some inherent human flaw we can't escape, it's only one boy! You've said before that you can't know better if you've only lived under their rule, makes sense when you know nothing else. Is the solution freedom of information? Good day Yeonmi, , I have a question...Do you think the majority of North Korean know how the rest of the world live? It breaks my heart to see those pictures. I truly hope things will change in a near future for people from your country.
The government there keeps the people from knowing about the rest of the world. No internet, only one government controlled tv channel, and no foreign movies. They also rarely have electricity. I doubt most of the people know anything about how the rest of the world lives.
@@bobthegiraf thank you for your explanation.
One would think deception of the regime is obvious but I have still come across people encouraging tourists to go there and see for themselves. It would be interesting to know your take on the controlled tours in North Korea, as I was always under the impression of them being unethical, given that probably no tourism profits go back to the people and they're being used to feed the regime instead. I would love to know what you think about that from your perspective.
I have thought the same exact thing. You are right though, absolutely none of the profits that are made from tourists visiting their country, are spent on the starving population. Just that fact alone, is total bull - shit. You have around twenty five million or so people. And about twenty million of them are starving, and living in complete slums. All of that money, goes back to the regime. More ominously though, most of it, goes towards their nuclear weapons program...
Your doing a great job
