John (Jake) was a friend of mine at university (Durham). He worked in France for a time and admired the great Georges Brassens, developing his own style as a poet and chanteur . He mocked his own clumsiness and shyness. As a teacher of English in Leeds, he wrote a short musical for the students to perform called ‘The Harmonious Omnibus’. It had one of the most beautiful soliloquy songs I have ever heard.
I already I have this on my iPod. Brilliant!! I saw Jake live in, I think, 1974. He sang a song about A Frigging Brigadier. Has anyone got this one? He is so sadly missed and I would love this track.
Had a few of his records in the 70's.Magic.He did some TV spots as a guest .Not sure if he had a show of his own .Maybe one or two.Brilliant lyrics.Clever man and unique voice.
