So, in this video, we will look at this woodworking trim router (laminate trimmer),
a collection of router bits that came with the set,
try out all the bits and see how they perform,
create a simple tabletop jig,
make a cactus planter box,
and finally, compare this with my other low-cost Aldi trim router.
The video starts with an unboxing and in-depth overview of the router. All the router cutter bits are discussed in detail, and these include chamfer 45 degrees, roman ogee, western profile, round over, straight cut, flush trim, cove box, dovetail. I also made an oak planter box, which incidentally is a common design sold on Etsy. And, also made some square oak coasters as well.

Who else “ohhh” and “ahhh” when he flipped the counter to reveal the miter saw?
Haha, thanks bud 👍😁
In India it's called "Jugad" (hack). We apply such hacks to overcome resource crunch (land and money) and moreover we are not the world's most populous country 😂
I had the same reaction. 😮
8:34 Now, I know what you’re talking about.😂😂😂😅.
clever jugaad
for some reason this video was the best compared to all ther others i watched and didn´t understand. love the demonstration of the bits. this is what i call a a to z - tutorial
Awesome, thank you! 👍
I agree. I finally feel confident enough to use my router.
Thankyou for demonstrating that the very cheapest palm routers are actually quite ok. There are so many tool snobs who wont even look at budget priced tools. I have a work shop full of cheap tools and manage to make lots of furniture for my house without any problems.
If a cheap power tools fails just buy another one it wont break the bank.
Absolutrly, you bet. For a DIY use, these are more than enough
Thanks a million for the video- I’m new to woodworking & I’ve never used a router, so this was EXACTLY what I needed to view!
Glad it was useful 👍, and thanks for watching
Best router video I've seen all night! Thanks so much, so clear, so simple, so informative! Not afraid to show us what a mistake looks like, thanks so much! Cheers from the USA!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks a lot 👍 😁
I had no idea how to use the trimmer my wife bought me for Christmas. This video saved me! Thank you so much Sir!!
glad it was useful. enjoy the new trimmer 👍
an Oscar award on how to make a detailed video, short and to the point
i also appreciated the honesty part about your mistake
well done sir
Haha. Thanks man. You made my day 😁👍
Excellent! Non- patronising, encouraging, with great tips to boot.
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching buddy 👍 😀
The first video I see about the uses of the bits. Thank you. I bought a router trimmer just like yours for £18 on ebay, I use it on the router table.
Great to hear! 👍😀
Excellent explanations & demonstrations. Straightforward and very clearly produced. Thank you.
Best wishes from Scotland.
Many thanks! 👍😀
As a complete novice using a router this video is the best for instructions and easiest to follow i have seen so far,
thanks, much appreciated 😀
Probably one of the best demonstrations I have seen on CZcams😊. And I have seen Many over the years
Thank you so much for the extreme effort you have put in to making this video.
Kindest Regards
You're very welcome! thanks for watching 👍😀
Your videos are very informative and have a unique charm, your comments are frank and honest, so refreshing.
Thanks for the great comment, buddy 👍😁
It's awesome to see reviews on low end models in such detail. Now I have more understanding on the capability of this model, thanks!
No problem, glad it was helpful 😊 👍
Your video is very helpful. And the language handling is very clear.❤
Thank you! 😃
Merci pour vos émissions. Continuer votre bon travail!
Good vid. I appreciate that you leave in your mistakes...we learn more from the mistakes made than displays of excellence.
Thanks, I appreciate that! 🙏
Excellent video. Very informative and love the demo. No standing in front of the camera and talking. Loved how you made it look so simple.
Thanks mate 👍😁. Glad it was useful
Starting to learn how to use a router. Thank you for explain simply to a layman. Every little helps and I'm sure I will become bit more confident sooner than later.
Glad it was helpful, Asghar. Thanks 👍 😁
Great video - I just bought this exact set for my girlfriend, she’ll be very happy with this!
Fantastic!
@@SujMenon have you noticed the adjuster for the guide fence being a bit loose, seems very hard to get the thing tight enough to stop it sliding?
@@snappo20 mine was ok, but if the screw thread doesn’t seems proper, it might be better to send it back.
Good video mate. Very interesting and informative.
Thank you for taking the time to do it.👍
My pleasure! 😀👍
Good info, Suj. The simple router table top at 7:44 by itself was "worth the price of admission" for me. Thanks for posting.
Thanks a lot, bud 👍
GREAT video, thanks a lot Suj!
Thanks bud 👍 😁
Thanks for demonstrating the Roman Ogee profile. I received one of those bits in a kit. Your demo gave me an idea to use this bit to edge my next wood sign project 👍
Glad it was useful 👍, and thanks for watching 😁
Thanks for this great video - as a newbie this was really helpful and informative, I love how you keep it simple and explain all the details. Thanks Suj!
Thanks Daryl, glad it was useful👍😁
You make it look like it's too simple that i have to rewatch the whole thing after getting started. Nice.
haha, thanks for the comment. :)
I’m in awe at 8:34. That’s excellent.
Thanks bud 👍 😁
One of the few trim router videos I have watched from start to finish. Also, was impressed with the flip tabe for the miter saw. Well done sir.
Thank you very much! 😁👍
Yeah! That got a “WOW” outta me for sure!
thanks bud 👍 😀
Just bought a trimmer like this, found your video extremely helpful!
Great to hear! 👍😁
This is the first video posted by you that I have seen. I like the very clear, easy to understand presentation. Unlike many other woodwork project videos, the viewer doesn't need a workshop with table saw, bandsaw, welding gear, angle grinders, large drill press etc. etc....those videos would put off a beginner, whereas yours encourages one to think 'yeah, let's have a go! I like the way you explained (and even demonstrated) common snags along the way! The only thing I would add is the provision of (even just a clamp on) fence for the simple router table. I'm sure I'll need that to produce nice even and straight results. Thanks!
Thanks Chris. Glad it was useful and thanks for the additional fence tip👍
Excellent and thorough explanation. This is what I wait to get it.
Thank you
Glad it was useful, and thanks for watching 👍😁
Thanks for the video! I'm new to woodworking and this video was very helpful! I enjoyed seeing what each bit produces and the simple projects at the end!
Awesome, thank you! 😊
I just bought mine last week. I plan to make my own bedframes and headboards. This router should do the trick. If it works, kitchen table and coffee tables are next. Can't wait to start
Sounds like a great deal of projects lined up. Good luck 👍 😁
Thanks Suj for the great explanation and that planter looks amazing!
Thanks pal 👍 😁
Nice review mate, I like that they give you the bits as well. It’s great for a beginner woodworker.
Cheers Harki, yes its decent enough for beginners. Thanks for watching buddy 😁👍
Thank you so much Suj, very nicely detailed and well thought out project examples. Wish I could like it 1k times
Haha, thanks so much Edmund 😁👍
Thank you for this video. It is the most informative video on the net for a total newbie like me. I've only just got a palm router, I'm making a stock for my air rifle and have never done anything with wood before but you have really helped me so thank you my man. You're an actual legend.
haha, thanks lot bud! 👍 😀
Great video from someone who obviously uses the tools. Learned loads, thanks for the upload.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍😀
Firstly, thank you for this video. As a DIYer I'm only looking to buy inexpensive tools so I would probably never buy a high end router so these videos are highly appreciated. And secondly, when you did that flip for the saw I immediately perked up and subscribed because i don't have a garage and will never have all the fancy tools most of the woodworking channels have but that flip workbench thingy is totally feasible for me!
Hey thanks, Johanna. Glad the video was useful, and good luck with the build 😀 👍
Great tutorial Suj. I have just found your site, yes I know, but better late than never. Very informative for the beginner like my self and a few uses you showed are going to help me 100%. Also the way you showed how each bit works was good to see. I have just acquired the work zone router a few weeks ago at a car boot sale with a few router bits. I am now much more confident to try it out. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! And all the best with the workzone router 👍 😀
Thankyou for a very informative video, have just bought a router and now excited to start using it on my wood crafts. Oh and love the flip counter with the miter 😊
Wonderful! Thanks 👍 😊
GOOD EXPLANATION, AND DEMONSTRATION, THANK YOU.
[FYI: IN ENGLISH, (IN AMERICA, WE GENERALLY PRONOUNCE THE LETTER "V" VERY DISTINCTLY DIFFERENTLY, THAN WE WOULD A "W"..]
Thanks a lot for watching 👍😀. My English is neither here nor there, so most likely, the pronunciation would be off, haha.
Nice router basics video Suj. Lawn looks great too 😊
Haha, James. The lawn got trimmed as well. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Been having a lil router but never used it. Slightly intimidated by it. But this video has given me courage to open that box and start creating edges. Thanks for your help. Great video.
Glad it was helpful. Make sure the work piece is "clamped" down, before routing the edges 👍. And be aware of that initial sudden spin effect when the router is switched on.
The router spinning at very high speed.
Do pay extra attention for safety. Especially for fingers, eyes, and lungs, from those very fine wood chips and sharp router bites.
Hello Suj,
trimmer; A very good replica of the Makita handheld router. It can be used for hobby work. Smoke at 07:09 and a burnt router tip at the end :-) These tips are for hobby use. Because I use the same tips. I had experienced similar situation. I love the rotating workbench. The cactus pot box was also nice. The square coasters were also nice. nice on both devices but Trimmer seems better. Thank you for the introduction and detailed information. you made a good comparison. Thank you for sharing. See you. stay healthy and happy. Big greetings. Best regards. Your friend Mehmet
.
Thanks a lot Mehmet. Yes, definite reasonable model for hobby wood worker. It was fun using it for various projects. Thanks for watching, 😁👍
@@SujMenon 👋👋👋👋👏👏👏👏👏cheers man.
Thanks for this as the basic price router is something most can afford
Cheers James. Glad it was useful 👍 😁
This is the best video so far, it's precise and easy to comprehend.
You are the best

Excellent discourse use of router function. Made it look really simple👍👍
Glad it was helpful! thanks for watching pal 😀👍
This video is gold and just what I needed to be excited to use my router. Thank you for explaining what the bits do too. I’m off to go spend more $ now. 😅😩
Cheers mate. Thanks for the great feedback 👍😁
This is the best video I have seen! Great ideas easy simple well explained in easy detail. This video is definitely going in my diy playlist to do soon. Thank you for this video and your time.

Being a newby to routers, this video was very helpful. Great job on it.
Glad it was helpful!
Love this video! Can’t wait to view your others.
Yay! Thank you once again!
Great video. I just bought a small Mikita and found this very useful
Thanks 👍😁. Good luck with the router. Makita's are great piece of kit.
Great video!! I just got a router and had no idea how to use it so this is perfect!!
Glad I could help!
Hahaha did anyone else catch the joke at 1:21. "Lefty tighty, righty loosey".
Thank you very good video and great to see you set the router up for use on jig and clamp to bench so you can use hands moving timber across it and as a new person I will now have better view of the item being routed and now can see where I may be going right or wrong and get to try out the other bits so I see the uses better. Great job thank you so much
No problem, thanks very much 👍😁
You packed so many great, informative things in your video! I loved your descriptions of router bits, the homemade router mount (perfect!) and router techniques. Thank you so much!
Glad it was useful mate 👍 😁
Great video. Quick and to the point with full of information thanks!,
Thanks 👍 😊
Short complete informative video for all wood trimmer router related .Thank you ..
Thanks for the feedback 👍😁
Thank you for this. I just bought a Maktec 370 -- a Makita product and the budget equivalent of the Makita 3709. I'm very pleased with it but am still learning the basics. I believe this Chinese router is based on the same design, but regardless of that I found your introduction very clear and helpful. I subscribed.
Thanks a lot John, glad the video was helpful 👍😁
I am very interested, if I want to buy, what is the procedure .
Suj...great video...well done. Image quality was great and the entire video was informative and very easy to follow. I can't wait to put my trim router to work.
Thanks a lot 👍😁. Hope you have a great time with the router 👍
I’m glad I came across your vid. Learned some valuable tips. Great job 👍
Thank you for the comment 😊
I seen quit a few of these videos and everyone doesn't give it a chance and they count it out and really using it improper and pretty much portray it as crap. But you used it good and had pretty good results cause you used it right . So thanks I might purchase one now.
Awesome, thanks a lot bud 👍 😀
Great video. Loving your easygoing style! 👍
Thanks bud 👍
So you not only explained things perfectly but you also showed us what NOT to do which is always helpful. It’s like weight loss they always show ppl who are just about anorexic lol so thank you for being real. Now because of this you got a like and a new subscriber lol.
Haha, thanks very much. Much appreciated 🙏 ☺️
This video is awesome. I’m starting to learn how to use a router. A little intimidating. Your video helped me a lot. Thanks
Thanks bud, glad it was useful 👍 😀 . Ask the best
Hi Suj, I am Dr Suresh. Quite recently I started interest in wood work projects and collected a few power tools, studying and doing small works as a hobby. I found your presentation clear and highly useful.Thank you. I am from Cochin, Kerala.
Ah thanks a lot, Dr Suresh. Incidentally, half of my family is from Kochi, small world!
Great review mate. I have the katsu trim router, both the corded & 18v models. Great looking plant box too
thanks Dave. yes, I saw that. Great addition to the workshop. The Katsu ones are really well made!
thank you so much for putting time into making such a great video ! i saw this unbranded router on ebay and had no idea how itd compare to say, a ryobi. this cheap router seems like it holds up for a home hobby studio :)👍
You're so welcome! But just a word of warning that they aren't the greatest of quality, though 👍😊
I just bought that same machine, delighted to see it's not that bad 😅
Cheers bud. Its not bad at all. But just a heads-up, it is not that great either for long use.
Great video. Really useful and been trying to find a video like this for a while. Thanks!
Thanks a lot, Phil 👍 😁
Roman Ogee okay thank you sir. I was searching all over the YT and couldn't find it. thank you

Thank you 😊 for an amazing video from which I learnt so much. Much appreciated, thank you😊
Thanks for the great feedback, Mohammad 👍😁
G’day Suj, you’ve put about 10 videos into 1 here & this one has been nice viewing mate. Roman Ogee creates somewhat an elaborate finish in my opinion.
Looking forward to the next instalment of videos you’ve got cooking up mate 🍻👍👍👍👍
Thanks Dirk. Yes roman ogee is a great finish indeed. I did jam pack a few things in the video, so as not to spend too much time editing, lol. Inital draft footage was around 35 mins long, which i cut to almost half. Haha 😁👍
Hi Sir. As a beginner, the demo was fantastic. Very much appreciated and free to uTube subscribers. Pls show more smaller project builds. Thank u.
Thanks a lot Nirupa 👍😁. There are a few in my channel. Will try and upload smaller builds
Enjoyed the video.
Want to show the kids how to do engraving, so looking for a cheap router that I won't mind if they kill it. This seems to fit the bill.
My favourite part of the video was seeing your bench! Superb.
Haha, thanks for that, Rob. Yes, these ones are cheap and cheerful 😊 👍
Nice review... and couple of nice simple project to boot...
