Melbourne:
en.wikipedia.o...
the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Victoria, and the second most populous city in Australia. The name "Melbourne" refers to the area of urban agglomeration (as well as a census statistical division) spanning 9,900 km2 (3,800 sq mi) which comprises the broader metropolitan area, as well as being the common name for its city centre. The metropolis is located on the large natural bay of Port Phillip and expands into the hinterlands towards the Dandenong and Macedon mountain ranges, Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley. Melbourne consists of 31 municipalities. It has a population of 4,529,500 as of 2015, and its inhabitants are called Melburnians.
Founded by free settlers from the British Crown colony of Van Diemen's Land on 30 August 1835, in what was then the colony of New South Wales, it was incorporated as a Crown settlement in 1837. It was named "Melbourne" by the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Richard Bourke, in honour of the British Prime Minister of the day, William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne. It was officially declared a city by Queen Victoria in 1847, after which it became the capital of the newly founded colony of Victoria in 1851. During the Victorian gold rush of the 1850s, it was transformed into one of the world's largest and wealthiest cities. After the federation of Australia in 1901, it served as the nation's interim seat of government until 1927.
Melbourne rates highly in education, entertainment, health care, research and development, tourism and sport, making it the world's most liveable city-for the sixth year in a row in 2016, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit. It is a leading financial centre in the Asia-Pacific region, and ranks among the top 30 cities in the world in the Global Financial Centres Index. Referred to as Australia's "cultural capital", it is the birthplace of Australian impressionism, Australian rules football, the Australian film and television industries, and Australian contemporary dance. It is recognised as a UNESCO City of Literature and a major centre for street art, music and theatre. It is home to many of Australia's largest and oldest cultural institutions such as the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the National Gallery of Victoria, the State Library of Victoria and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building. It was the host city of the 1956 Summer Olympics.
The main passenger airport serving the metropolis and the state is Melbourne Airport (also called Tullamarine Airport), which is the second busiest in Australia, and the Port of Melbourne is Australia's busiest seaport for containerised and general cargo. Melbourne has an extensive transport network. The main metropolitan train terminus is Flinders Street Station, and the main regional train and coach terminus is Southern Cross Station. Melbourne is also home to Australia's most extensive freeway network and has the world's largest urban tram network.

Melborne is absolutely amazing! I've lived there all my life, and never want to leave!!!!! :)
This is probably the 10th+ time I've watched this now. Still remains one of my favorites on CZcams!
I'm from Toronto and I absolutely fell in love with Melbourne when I was there in March. Hoping to live there on day!
Melbourne in autumn is magic
I've never been to Melbourne, but I feel like I'm a citizen of this beautiful city. I have faith that I will still know her.
I just got back from Melbourne VIC couple months ago, and i just can't wait go to back again. I even want to live there....amazing place
Absolutely Amazing!! It's always a treat watching one of your productions!! 5 Stars and an add to my fav's!!
i was live there between 2010-2012, and i can say it's the best part of my life
This is a excellent video, hope you send it into the new youtube art comp. Now I see this is your most watched video and I can see it would have taken heaps of time to produce. Simple advice here is do more content like this and keep it sub 3 min, even sub 90 sec. you know what to do with the titles, hit that chilli spot real quick for maximum effect, good luck.
Brilliant Geoff!!! Totally loved it. Tez.
.. thanks for commenting - I like the bike riding too, it is the best way to get around the inner city. In winter its a bit cold, but for the rest of the year there are so many people who ride to work, ride to a cafe, to their friends place - there has been a definite change in attitude with the bike trails and lanes ..
.. Hello Jeannette - we are in spring and looking forward to summer - hope you are well! ..
G'day again Geoff,
Love living in Melbourne and your Video reminded me of some of the reasons I'm so happy to call Melbourne Home!
Yes, a great place to live :)
Awesome video.....Melbourne is beautiful! I've always dreamed of going to Australia....one day I will! Great job!
many great videos on YT showing the good side of Vancouver
Watching this video again for the first time in a couple of years...getting excited for my visit, in a few weeks from now!
I'm from New York City. I think I could get used to this place, I love busy cities. And I've always wanted to visit the Southern Hemisphere ^^
Nice work. A great overview of Melbourne!
Geoff my brother your videos are wonderful, congratulations
Amazing timelapse. Great work!
Wow! Life in the fast lane. Melbourne never looked like this. I admire your patience, great work here. 5*
@Tubetheweb .. this particular vid took me ages to put together so I really appreciate it when people watch and comment - so thanks, once again. Geoff
Great Video. Thank you for sharing.
Nice one! I found one clip particularly humoreous, the one with the lady at the traffic sign where you zoom on her. lol . I'm enjoying the tilts and zooms also!
Not sure if you have ever tried tilt shift photography, it lends its self to this style and when done correctly is hugely popular when made into short clips. Google tilt shift photography to learn more
My most sincere congratulations for this video very well done, the soundtrack is also excellent! Greetings from Italy, Giorgio.
What a beautiful place Melbourne is. I've got to visit Australia sometime in my life.
Another awesome video, Geoff! :)
thanks for that day on the other side of the globe. I find Melbourne much more interesting than the other big australia cities.
I love bicycle riding. I've got to say i've being depressed since i came back to England, i really did love Melbourne, the people so friendly, for example i got lost looking for the prisoner set on Hawthorn road so i asked for directions instead of giving directions he put the bike in the car and took me to the set of Prisoner and Neigbours.
It might sound daft but seeing them set was like a dream come true. i was amazed how you could just walk up Ramsey St/Pinoak Court in real life, Amasing.
You have such classy videos Geoff! An inspiration!
I loved this video! I spent some time in Melbourne years ago, seems to have grown!!
Just seemed to fit in with the music! Totally unplanned. Glad you like it.
Blessings back at you!!
.. gracias! ..

Really well made video Geoff. You should do more like this.
+Reviewmaster5000 Thanks mate. I'm now only doing food related reviews on this channel but I occasionally do travel vids on my travel channel - you may already know of it: czcams.com/channels/EjRy2pRKBzcL4sdymxooVg.html
Loved this. Reminded me of Koyaanisqatsi, of course! Loved the combination of panning with time-lapse.
I'll be honest Geoff you almost lost me at the very beginning of the vid; the cinematography felt a little stock standard, the balloon caught my eye and I was transported into your fabulous film. I love the humour you have infused it with - very Melbourne. It is intimate, funky, friendly and fun and you have brought all this to life. You put us right in the picture, Bravo!
yutu34 Yes, I actually tried to edit the beginning out of the vid once it was on YT, but it had already got too many views for an online edit to take place (so YT said). So it has to stay the way it is. Glad you like the rest of it though.
Loved it mate, have shared with friends overseas :)
yutu34 Wow - thanks!
.. appreciate your insight and input - I love Sydney too, especially the harbour - for me its about thinking the cities are quite different and each have a special uniqueness. I think that along with Vancouver, Sydney is one of the best cities of the world in appearance ..
You'll love it!
wow, just amazing.
...thanks Rodney...been a lot of work - and quite a few very early mornings...
...thanks Brent - No formal studies, just pick up clues here and there - and ask questions. Done a lot of stuff (behind the scenes) for a local movie, got a lot of practise there.
Going to be there in 2013, it looks like a lively city, looking forward to it.
Thanks Giorgio! Yes it is quite surreal
nice video friend!
.. thank you ..
Excellents videos Geoff
thanks!
from what I've seen of Vancouver it must be a great city
@bellissimoegitto Thanks and Ciao Anita
well done, nice video, nice city
3 more years till i move to this wonderful place!
great work.
Yes we can, and don't make judgments like that when you've never lived there. You've know idea how amazing it is.
Awesome film ;)
Fascinating!
I love time lapse!
donni
Awesome video! , really enjoyed it! :D
GREAT WORK!!! very clear and sharp, I really like time lapse. *****+....... Allen
Very cool set of sequences ...and what the heck was that at 2:20 ? XD hahaha Nice work on this one :-)
.. thanks ..
great video...excellent..
Seriously, you have some really awesome films. Did you end up studying film in college? Your stuff is professional enough to be featured on television (no joke).
Great Video! Quite nervous about landing here in 2 weeks! Big change from Ireland:)
yes it is a great if you have money or you are a tourist. beautiful city with a really dark side.
.. yes good themes ..
i cant wait to go there
Great Video Geoff, just wish I could get it to load faster!
Cheers,
Marylyn
great video
.. you got it! ..
.. yes - I'm sure you would love it!
Love the video...I am Sydney born and bred (Campbelltown, about 1 hr south of Sydney, and lived in Lake Macquarie for about 5 yrs as well), am appreciative of Sydney and what it has to offer, however having been back to Melb this past long weekend, I can see why Melb trumps Sydney in a lot of things, as in my opinion Sydney just relies on it's harbour, as Melb has a great vibe to it and offers so much more to Sydney, in the way of transport options, boutique bars, the casino and nightlife.
@fotizome .. yeah no worries - just put a credit somewhere on the piece - glad you like it! ..
...thanks Giorgio...
yes - it is good
awesome!
This was a labor of love. How long did it take you to shoot this and did you get dizzy editing? Was it hard to set up your shots? cooooollll
@19porridge72 'Livetype' - came with Final Cut Express. The pictures are my own with borders from FCX...thanks for the interest...
@drphwoar Thanks Ben. The riding is great around those paths - dodging the concrete pillars and lintels! luv it!
@Arainion .. good point - sounds like I need to another video with the material you are suggesting :)
@GeoffJennyOliver Tilt shift has a select audience, in a way it is still not that well know about. I think westpac did a TVC about ATM's using this method. I found myself so caught up in the effect I never caught what the message was.
I am pretty sure tilt shift has to have no camera movement o work best. I was going to do a video which mixed real miniatures with the real world, like many crazy ideas I never had the time to pull it together.
Hello Geoff, we are in autumn now and the days are shorter but still not cold, one day it will. My lady neighbour of 83 is going to visit her son with his wife and son in December and with christmas she is in a better temperature i suppose. She stay in your country for 2 month to see her son gets his university certificate in february. Greetings fom ♥♥Jeannette♥♥
love this city
Cool one.
Well, 2:20 that was funny.
I think it could be even better if some scenes were a little bit slower - that's my opinion.
Anyway, it's a great work of course.
.. well worth it ..
@ExplorerXIII .. great place ..
yes it is!
.. yeah go for it! I hear they are pollution free these days!
I like Australia and people in Au are great
@woopingcough .. you'll enjoy it here ..
Sony HDV A1. Final Cut Express to edit. Mac Mini. thanks for the interest
@neojazyc Thanks Graham. The rain theory about Melbourne is a bit of a myth. Compared to most other Australian cities Melbourne is quite dry. People in the northern capitols of Sydney and Brisbane go out of their way to rubbish Melbourne in what ever way they can. This usually includes their statement that it is always wet here. Thanks for dropping by, Geoff
...go for it...!! :)
Maybe get the GoJo thing in there some how.
.. I think I will do a steadicam walk up Ramsay St - never thought of that until now lol ..
