The Prince of Wales met New York firefighters and encouraged them to talk about their mental health. On his final engagement in the city after the Earthshot Innovation Summit, Prince William visited FDNY's Ten House Fire Station.
As part of the visit, the Prince was taken to the FDNY 9/11 Memorial Wall commemorating all the firefighters who lost their lives in the terror attack. William later went on a walkabout - meeting the crowds outside the station, posing for selfies and chatting to the tourists. Report by Matt Blair.

As a Search and Rescue helicopter pilot and an air ambulance pilot, Prince William has more knowledge than the average politician. He’s well aware of the dangers and the mental stresses of the job.

I am so proud of this young man who has embraced his role as a caring individual who has shown tremendous courage in the face of pain and has made it his mission to share his blessings with those who do not have. That is what God wants us to do.
William looks solemn but with a marked sincerity and true interest to engage with people. He will be a great King.
As an air ambulance pilot, he has witnessed first hand the trauma of the wounded and fellow soldiers. He knows better than most how they suffer. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Hardworking & humble to adapt & learn from the wisdom of both their guiding mentorship & filing in the gap fr the loss of his mother.
Also, he has inherited the quiet strength personality & character from Prince Philip as both grandfather & grandson likes to work & keep it low profile. I guess PP steps in as the male figure head in his life aft his mother Diana passed on as Charles was "busy" with Camilla.
Thk God, Prince William is that very sensible first born & heir. I'm sure his mother Diana, the late Queen QE2 & Prince Philip must be so proud of him, cheering & leading him on fr haven abv. 👑🤴🏼🙌🏼

watching from Asia here 😊 i’m admiring Prince William and thinking how lucky the Brits are to have someone like him to use his platform to make a difference and just be a genuinely kind and caring person. He is a true role model in how he conducts himself on a day to day basis.

Watching from Australia. Prince William is a true diplomat and statesman who kept the focus on the people. It was very interesting to see the Ten House station and some of New York’s fire fighters.
I love the way he shows true interest in the people and the process, making me think he will use the knowledge to help his own country improve, if needed, the firefighting skills he finds helpful.

I think it is lovely. William isn't the type to stand in a cemetery full of fallen heroes for a photo op. He is so like his mother, mingling with the people. He cares, and it comes through.
Article in a paper today said that you tend not to notice William when he’s with Catherine which I think is true, not only because of her beauty & style but because he’s happy to let her shine, whilst he gets on with the task at hand. It’s good to see him taking centre stage, he’s definitely matured over the last 12 mths and grown into his role as Prince of Wales.

Yes, anything about 9-1-1 still moves me to tears as well. I was at work that day. Practically everyone was watching the news coverage on the TVs on each floor. Everyone was crying. It was horrific. I’ll never forget.

I’m sure his father is too given that he was his only parent from the age of 15 and was always there for his boys, they were with him when there mother died. I think he’s did a good job and William loves the King you can see that, when they interact and laugh together, I think the King is proud of both William and Catherine and dearly loves his grandchildren it’s a shame he doesn’t get to see the American ones but the spoilt brat and his wife are just to spiteful 🥹

In her Late Majesty's speech to New York after the tragedy of 9-11, she reminded the world: "...nothing that can be said can begin to take away the anguish and the pain of these moments. Grief is the price we pay for love." While this poignant observation is true, it is equally true that taking the time to remember, honor and commemorate those lost while also taking the time to meet and honor those who currently serve is a way to build a bridge between the past and the present (and between nations). In his willingness to meet with these first responders in a spirit of humility, honor and respect, the Prince of Wales becomes the architect of a powerful bridge indeed.
I bet not ONE statement from the future King revolved around him. I bet he asked questions of them, commented on them, talked and listened to THRM. As an US cit I zen, I am so proud of him.
Now, this is what intelligence looks like, a real royl doing real a visit, ❤
William is a man, a leader who has recognized the privilege as well as the responsibility placed upon him. He has used his privilege to bring the spotlight on causes which need the spotlight. He has recognized his responsibility as a royal and has done his best to fulfill those responsibilities without complain. In fact he has taken on his responsibilities without drama, with sincere interest and with grace and diligence.

I’ve watched him for a long time and he’s always pushed his cause out front not looking for any attention for himself, as it should be. That has never changed. He’s a sincere and positive guy. Even with his brother and his brother’s wife slinging arrows at him and his family continually, he ignores them and carries on with his work. Exemplary character. 👍🇨🇦

It was nice of HRH Prince William to visit the fire fighters especially at the 9/11 site because there are first responders that were dying years after 9/11 due to new cancers being formed from all that they inhaled that day. So, thank you to HRH Prince William for caring. It's more than they get from some of their own New York politicians. Just a few years ago Jon Stewart helped the first responders fight before our Congress to keep their funding for their 9/11 injuries. To see how the cancers ate them out was very sad.

It was humbling to see them running up towards the fire, when everyone was coming down the stairs to safety. It's good to reminded of brave people.
Station Ten represents all first responders that answer the call to duty. They were first on the scene that day and suffered the most casualties, both initially and in the aftermath. No truer heroes seldom seen.

William, having done emergency services for a few years, has to know what it meant that so many emergency services workers were killed on 9/11 trying desperately to save others. It is sobering what percentage of the lost to us they became that day.

I’m American and so proud of William on this trip and what Earthshot means to the world. I’ve recently watched some films about 9/11 - on the anniversary - and I’m sure it meant a lot to the firefighters for him to come and to care. The shy prince has become a wonderful ambassador.

William, like his mother, Diana, cuts an elegant figure. And like his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, he takes his duties as heir to the throne of Britain and the Commonwealth, seriously.
