      Agreed, I would hope Matty goes back and plays Asgard's Wrath I first as you get it for free with Asgard's Wrath II. That and other PCVR games from the Rift era like Lone Echo, Lone Echo II and Vader Immortal are all top tier, along with Half Life: Alyx on Steam. I'm probably forgetting some but feel free to add to my list.

    As a gamer who cut his teeth at 15 in 1980 playing Space Invaders on my neighbor's Atari 2600 until I got my first Tandy PC in 1985 and started playing Sierra games like "King's Quest", the Meta Quest 3 has been the first thing to rekindle that young sense of wonder at emergent technology that you can experience but really can't describe. Sooooo much fun! I highly recommend the Quest 3. The updates that keep coming out at what seems like breakneck speed also are incredible.

    The Quest 3 is the first VR headset I've owned and I'm LOVING it so far.
    I've primarily been playing PCVR games on it wireless (adored Half Life Alyx) as well as some native Quest games. I've even been playing Doom 3 in VR via the Side Quest mod.
    I would highly recommend getting a Quest 3. It's a completely different experience than regular flat games.

    Asgard's Wrath 2 will blow you away if you are impressed with AC Nexus. And it has an optional endless roguelite mode that comes with it called "Uncharted Rifts" that is a procedurally generated dungeon crawler complete with awesome cinematic feeling boss fights. They could have left that out entirely and still had an amazing game.

  • @kryten09
    @kryten09 Před 3 měsíci +2

    They also have ports of "half life" "star wars: Jedi Knight" " return to Castle Wolfenstein" ... All remade with full VR controls and menus. I think "prey" and "doom 3" are either out or will be out soon (check out "Dr. Beef" his team does all the ports and they're free if you own the original game) and they all run on the quest 3 natively (no PC required, and you can use many of the game mods. I was playing "half life VR with multiple HD/graphics update packs)
    You're literally scratching the surface of VR games, a lot has changed since 2019.

By chance have you also made a video on PSVR2 that i may have missed?

    • @plasticlife283
      @plasticlife283 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Honestly most VR effort is in standalone currently. Even PC VR is declining some. Sony doesn't seem to care enough to make PS VR2 worth getting even though the tech is good, minus the cables.
      At least with the Quest 3 or Quest line in general ( Valve Deckard whenever it comes out), you get a great headset with the option of standalone or PC VR. You aren't stuck on one wall gardened platform.

    Welcome back to VR! Also, the more you move your whole body the less the motion sickness. I play most of my games standing and use my body as much as possible. (I get to exercise this way, it makes it more immersive, and never feel motion sick). When playing something like Skyrim I will often walk in place when traveling or going through a dungeon. One little trick I use, I place a fan in front of me, so I can tell if I get turned around by the wind direction. The air also adds a bit of effect if I am in an outdoor setting, and keeps me cool if I am working up a sweat from a heated sword-swinging battle.

    Skyrim VR is an eye opening experience if you connect to PCVR. Fair warning you’ll need to install a few mods to make it feel like a full fledge vr game. Bethesda made a lazy port to the game so the modders had to improve upon it.

    Awesome to see you giving VR another go Matty. I think you're gonna LOVE Asgard's Wrath 2 when you get around to playing it. 🙏 The combat in it is much faster paced, and even as a long time VR player I still get wrecked by the harder enemies lol. Still haven't gotten a chance to play AC: Nexus, but I've heard everyone say all the great things you've pointed out about it. :)

  • @ArzePoetic
    @ArzePoetic Před 3 měsíci

    Glad to see you take the dive into VR! It truly has continued to evolved a ton since that 2019 era. I think we're going to get a ton of great experiences over the next couple of years. Assuming you have enough space, I highly recommend you try turning with your physical body instead of the stick for turning. IMO it helps with motion sickness while simultaneously increasing immersion.
    Check out VAIL VR, which is hitting the official Quest store on Feb 15. I've been playing VAIL since 2022, and I'm convinced it's going to be the next big VR FPS PvP experience after the 1.0 release. PSVR 2 is bringing a lot to the table with its haptics and exclusives as well, which I think is going to help push the VR landscape further. Synapse is an incredible game that really shows off what good eye tracking and adaptive triggers can do for VR. Also PCVR with Quest 3 is most definitely worth trying! Especially with the new Unreal Engine injector that let's you play any Unreal Engine Game in VR.

    We've had VR around for a long time, but I would like to point out that the accessibility options are abysmal at best. I've been gaming since the 90's and yet there are still VERY few options for people with disabilities. I was so excited when VR was first announced years ago just to be absolutely heart broken to know that I could never play one. Matty I would love to see your platform bring these issues into the spotlight. I (and many others) would love the opportunity to experience what everyone else does. We've always been left behind and we're tired of it.

    If you are prone to motion sickness, I can actually recommend *not* using the right thumbstick to turn, but just turn in real life. This is a bit easier when standing, not sitting in your chair, but even in the chair it's absolutely possible. That worked wonders for me, thumbstick turning not only decreased the immersion significantly for me but was also a lot harder on my stomach.

    Glad you are dealing with your motion sickness issues. From my own experience it can either be an inner ear problem or actually an issue with the blood flow from the heart.
    i dont play VR games at all now because they just dont feel playable. We have some amazing tech at this point yet nobody is using it for gaming/

      Hopefully this is something that will continue to improve with newer headsets. I have psvr and quest 2 and yeah, they're bulky and awkward. You really need to upgrade the head strap for the quest as well or it hurts after a while. I hope the vr experience can eventually be streamlined and comfortable enough for it to become mainstream because it's so cool

    Its such a shame that totally eliminating motion sickness seems like it just isn't going to happen.
    Weird how some of us don't get it no matter what, and other people get it within seconds.

    Its still something strapped to my face. I can only take it for 30 minutes or so and then I have to take it off. So, thanks but no thanks. I will stick to my PC and monutor or Series X and TV

    I will try a vr when you are able somehow to walk and jump in the game. Movement on vr should be mandatory.

    • @Whale-rm3fn
      @Whale-rm3fn Před 3 měsíci

      You can walk freely and jump in the game shown here by using the analog sticks like any normal game. He just didn’t because he found it to be too intense. Also if your space is big enough in real life, you can walk around using your actual body and the in-game character will match your movements.

    Serious question. I don't suffer from the normal kind of motion sickness. i.e. moving and being in VR does not make me sick. What makes me sick is resetting the screen, from what I've experienced there is no smooth turning movement. It like janks the screen 45 degrees or so, which makes me nauseous asf.
    Has anyone found a solution for that?

    • @Whale-rm3fn
      @Whale-rm3fn Před 3 měsíci

      Pretty much all of the newer VR games, including Assassins Creed Nexus shown here, have options for both snap turning (the one you don’t like) or smooth turning where the camera pans just like in a regular flat screen game. Smooth turn is just happens to be more nauseating for most people so a lot of games default to having it off.

    • @eddyspeddy
      @eddyspeddy Před 3 měsíci

      @@Whale-rm3fn Thanks for that. Is smooth turning in Wrath of Asgard 1? That's the one that was snap turning me to death.

      @Whale-rm3fn Před 3 měsíci

      @@eddyspeddy I’ve never played the first one but I would assume it does. Asgard’s Wrath 2, which I’m playing now, definitely has options for both and even lets you adjust how fast the camera pans as you turn.
