I’m proud to say Chris Stapleton is a Good ol Eastern Ky boy…I grew up not far from him. He’s definitely got talent and to think he spent most of his life writing songs for other musicians coz he didn’t think he was talented enough to do his own music. Back in the 90s there was an album Rhythm, Country and Blues that had a bunch of old R&B and Country songs and each song was sung by a big Country and R&B artist at the time. Vince Gil sang with Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle and Travis Tritt, Nathalie Cole and Reba McEntyre and so many more. It was a phenomenal album and proved exactly what you said, the line between Country and R&B is very thin.
The secret is in THE STORY TELLING in both genres by real people. Different paths, same destination.

I never get tired of people reacting to Chris Stapleton's voice. He is country, yes, but he is also a STRAIGHT UP BLUES MAN! He has so much soul that this song could pass as blues!
I would classify him more as blues, than country. He kinda combines blues, R&B, and soul into Country, doing his own thing. I wish there were more country artists like him, I might actually start liking the genre again if there were.
