  • There can be a time in life when someone needs to walk away from their club. When is it that time, and how do you pack away ego and accept it.

In my time on this rock I have left several groups, clubs & organizations (including the military after 24 years of service). Know when it's time to go? When you no longer agree with the organizations core principals, it's time to go. When you disagree with more members than you agree with, it's time to go. When you dont feel like you belong, it's time to go. When you no longer feel uplifted & good about being part of it, it's time to go. There is nothing wrong with it and there is no shame in it. Staying in a bad situation that isnt in your best interest is like a form of 'battered wifes syndrome'. YOUR mental health & spiritual well being must always come first.

Was in a club for several years, held various officer positions over those years. Loved parts of it, hated others. The mantra we all believed in was "Being in an MC is a lifestyle, not a hobby". I really took that to heart. Life got to a point where I wasn't able to participate to the level that was expected of members. My brothers were fine allowing me to fall below that level for a time, but it became clear that it was going to be awhile. I'm not the kind of man that will ask someone to do things that I can't/won't do. When I found myself having to talk to a brother about not making an event, knowing that I wasn't there, I knew it was time to step away. I still love my brothers and try to support every public event I can from the outside to this day. When the time is right I'll put the cut back on, but only when the time is right. I just discovered your channel, but your content is excellent!!

I work rotating shiftwork with ALOT of overtime, power plant control room operator. I go to 8 rallies a year, 3 weeks in Sturgis and that takes up all of my time. No org or mc would permit that little amount of availability. Maybe once I retire in a few years. Can't wait to shake your hand at Sturgis and thank you for your commitment to your org that can't be named.

Clubs should recognize that there are times that their members need to temporarily step away, for a variety of legit reasons, and should provide a sort of “leave of absence” for very specific time periods, with very specific conditions (turn in their cut until reinstated, etc…). If the member is not ready for reinstatement when the leave period lapses, then it’s time to end the membership. Great topic!

I had to step away from a club I belonged to. And, I wasnt happy that I had to. I wrestled with the decision for over a month. My time at work changed, and I simply couldnt meet the criteria for staying active. I tried, but simply couldnt do it. I spoke with the president, and explained the situation. He asked that I simply write a formal letter explaining why, and then return the patches. Done. No hard feelings. I still see a few of them through other circles, and there is no hard feelings. I ended up joining a local HOG chapter, where I am now assistant director (VP but HD doesnt use those terms), and am happy with that. I dont have the strict criteria to meet, ride wise (I work most weekends) that need to be met. I still make meetings, and still ride like hell-still run rides, create rides, do charities, etc-I just dont feel BOUND to do so. Which is huge.

Your words of wisdom apply to so much more than just MC's. When a person starts to say "I" too much, he or she is no longer a productive member of a team. Unfortunately, too often "team" members are more concerned about hurting someone's feelings than being open and honest about the situation.

Then let me go and join the military with the respect and honor I actually earned in my service.

Throughout the journey of life many bonds of brotherhood are formed ( brother-in laws, co workers, that guy next door that is always willing to help you drag your wrecked bike off the flat bed into your garage...) . Appreciating those brothers while they are in your life are key. LOVE ALL MY BROTHERS( NO HOMO ) .past and present.

Good stuff! I had to walk away from a club, because they were 1.) Family 2.) Job 3.) Club , but then began to twist the narrative. Stating that your club brothers become your family. I couldn’t make that transition. Lots of time, blood, sweat, and humble growth went into earning that patch, but the decision wasn’t hard when you put my title of husband and dad in jeopardy. Maybe I’ll be up for the challenge again someday to earn my way into the MC world, but certainly no regerts 😉.

I grew up in a 1%er club. My dad left the club when a rival club blew up and burned down their club house. He feared for my brother and my safety. He did a good job keeping the rough stuff from us growing up, and it was not until I was older I realized all the 1%er stuff they were doing.

Alrighty simp..... If 1%ers are such bad people, go around and fuck w/people for absolutely NO REASON, ECT.......... Wtf do you call Law Enforcement?.... Hell they're the BIGGEST GANG here in the U.S., ALWAYS fuckin w/people left & right, caught up in criminal activities & so on. So if 1%ers are a gang? then so are Law Enforcement, only difference is one is Government sponsored/Funded.

They are all my brothers, even though I never joined. Love these guys. My friend is thinking of starting a chapter here, in Southeastern AZ. Will probably join if he does. I'm almost 66 and blind in one eye , but I ride everyday. Love your content. You seem like the real deal. Not sure what your organization is but, I get what you do. Good man. Keep it up.

    I’m familiar with your organization
    Love what they do
We parted ways because I tended to take
Protecting children as an offensive move rather than standing in defense
After the 3rd predator of one of our adoptees mysteriously moved out of state upon they’re release from the hospital they decided I wasn’t the best”fit”
    Lol
Let’s just say we differed ideologically on the best way to “protect” abused children
But I still retain enormous respect for y’all

This video is very timely in my world. Been a member of a club for 25 years, I’m a lifer now and up until about a year ago was still into it. But recently things have changed and I’ve been bouncing back and forth if it’s time. I believe my issue is that my wife and I moved to another state and I changed chapters, just not the same feeling. I’ll decide this weekend and let them know at our next meeting.
    Have a great holiday.

Some of us are just plain tired. We have belonged to clubs, organizations, work, churches. Im not against MC organizations and appreciate the freedom and liberty to make ones own decision. I retired after 22 years Navy and another 12 in government. I am one of those that just just not have it in my gut anymore. I get on my motorcycle and ride. To forget things. Mostly by myself. Then I go home to my dog or my wood shop. Im getting older. Thanks for your channel. Bless

"Own your shit!" Not just biker words to live by. I would also add "Understand the room" if you aren't getting what you need from a club or group, maybe its time to take a step back and see if your objectives still align. I use this advice even with things like jobs. If I'm not happy with something, maybe its time to take a step back and asses the situation and find out if myself and the group are still compatible.

Good conversation. Formerly of a 1% club, I faced a situation where I had to turn in patches but not because of problems or anything you mentioned. It was a good outing but one that pained my heart. It’s been several months now and I still long for the brotherhood. However I also know that for now, it’s best for me to remain solo.

Hung around a 1% affiliated club for a few months at the request of a friend. Though about making a commitment but before I did I scoured the internet to find out about the life. Decided there was no way I could make that kind of commitment. Discovered that they don't really care if your mortgage is paid or family obligations are met. I do miss the comradery and friendships I had in the ARMY. Maybe I will try to find a club that aligns their core values the way yours does.

    Good advice.
Reflect on your choices when you lose your drive for what your doing.
This could be applied to club memberships, jobs and even relationships.
Otherwise, you will continue to separate yourself both physically and mentally until which time your own decision will be taken from you.

Our MC was a small single chapter 99% support MC for our local 1% dominant & folded due to everyone leaving after a big internal situation w/ our Pres being accused of using the club for personal gain & Officers not wanting to step up. After finding out that a couple previous brothers lied in their accusations, I just haven't felt that a club was for me yet since drama is not what I'm looking for. Being I just lost my blood family due to manipulation & emotional/mental abuse from my parents & siblings, it hurts that I don't have anyone but my wife now. Might join another MC in the future since I'm on good terms w/ my local dominant, but I'm not in a hurry. I am now where my wife & a club would be my only family, so I can empathize there. ML&R.
