Being "real" is overrated. Just enjoy what you have

Made in a Harley factory. Has a Harley emblem on the tank. It's still part of a long history of Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Built in a Harley factory? If so, it’s a Harley.

Just bought a new Road Glide, it’s all Harley Davidson. It’s just way more reliable than the AMF shitsandwich we were fed

AMF brought in modern CNC equipment and started the development of the EVO

The original was a single slapped on a bicycle. The way i see it is as long as it was a factory made by the company, then its a Harley.

You mentioned all the new innovations Harley has done to there bikes has always been on the metric bikes for years, Harley is finally catching up, but Harley has always had that appeal over the metric bikes regardless of technology or lack there of, enjoy your bike and ride safe.

The evo was the most reliable platform ever produced!!! Do I love the ones that cane before them? YES, FLATSIDE SHOVEL IS MY FAVORITE!! FACT IS THE EVO WAS SUPERIOR IN ALL WAYS AND STILL IS. RIDE ON.

Ride your own ride not everyone else's.
I don't care if other dudes like my bike or not. There are some Harleys I wouldn't own and some that I would. Spoiler alert- some of the ones I wouldn't touch are the most popular and the most accepted. One deal breaker is if it HAS to go to the dealer to be repaired. If I can't fix it at home with the tools I own I won't own it.

Oh man, remember when the V-Rod came out? It was apocalyptic amongst the HD purists. What if HD abandoned air cooled all together? Water cooled only engines has already started. Then we will really start hearing “that ain’t a really HD”. They can’t meet emissions and achieve the power we want from the 45 degree V-twin.
I bought a BMW R18 because I wanted air cooled simplicity without having my balls cook. But also it was because it looked and performed great and has tons of character. Maybe HD will pull out there old military air cooled boxer engine and go that direction. That would definitely cause the HD purists to melt down.
If HD put a descent suspension on there bikes, the purists would say it’s not a Harley because it doesn’t ride like crap.
People will always complain. The new Harley’s are the best ever and they look amazing.

They said the same about the Vrod, twin cam, and now the m8. IMO if it says Harley-Davidson on the tank it's an HD end of story. Personally, I don't care for the 24 or the direction the MoCo is going but they are still HD's

1980 harley flt had flat side tanks. When the Evo came out, harley people said see no evil. Speak no evil, hear no evil. Everything must go forward, also check out the Harley nova project. It was water cooled Porsche design for harley but did not make it into production. Great content guys

And with that the evo was a solid engine for 30 years.
About the porshe designed harley engine, the might have not used that exact engine your talking about, but I'm convinced that they took those plans out when they started the development of the vrod engine

Ride modes, digital dashes, all the electronics, it's not for me. Why are the newer Harleys running hot? Is it the EPA, the computerized fuel injection, engine management, combined with the EPA? Is that it? What it looks like to me is that the heat kills the oil and then expensive parts break down inside the motor, and everyone wants to know how to get their Harley to run cooler.
Now I see water cooled Harleys. Did the EPA kill the...well what we knew as Harleys? There is something to be liked about new tech, but I usually find that in the long run, especially, it's really not worth the downside.

I came from a '79 XLCH to a recently purchased '03 Sportster, with 38 years of BMW in between. I like the Evo, but the rocker box racket is way out of line. Really? All that noise? I remember some gear noise on the old one, but his rocker box racket is too much. That really surprised me. I did put the brass rocker lockers in there too. The AMF '79 was a good bike. Nothing wrong with it, though I did think it was a bit underpowered, like Harley could have given it some more performance. I really miss the 4 speed. Why shift all the time if you have a motor that will pull the gear, except that with all that rocker noise I'm getting it is good to be able to select a gear to quiet it down when in town.
I'm assuming a newer Sportster is quieter than my Evo, but there are some downsides I'm sure I would find on a newer one. I believe Harley never made a bad Sportster motor, it's just that some years are more preferable than others.

That new 2024 digital info'effing'tainment dash sells for $2750. Whether you can start your bike if the dash is broken is beyond my knowledge, but if it's broken I'm sure you won't be able to change riding modes or see how fast you're going unless you have $2,750 plus installation and a dealer to flash it. When I smashed the glass on my old SR500's gauges and bent them to the full upright position with the chin of my full face Shoei all I had to do was drag that bike out of the bushes, bend the gauges back to where I could see them, kickstart the bike and ride away. Y'all probably have a tablet computer or smart phone sitting around, likely or not it's probably sitting around unused and broken after less than 2 years, but in the unlikely event that it still works give it a good whack till the glass breaks and tell me how much functionality you get out of it. Now imagine wrapping $26,000 motorcycle around a smartphone that got water in it and try to tell me everything is cool.

Harley leathers have the harley insignia on the inside but.... Harley leather is now imported and made in India and China so you're paying outrages prices for buffalo leather from other countries because harley can get it cheaper , slap their tah on it and take your hard earned cash. Thats screwed up.

I will say what you should have about others opinion. Some people are just arrogant assholes that like to think what they have is superior to others. These same types of people are the ones that are always the loudest in crowds. They have a need to draw attention to them. Little people with big mouths. Lol. RIDE ON FRIEND.

We all have options and wants an dislikes , you can't stop progress or technology the younger generation wants all the new gadgets we have available us old guys don't want or need these things but it's not going to stop happening, EPA has brought us a now almost non tuneable engine iin bikes as well as automobiles and equipment, the big twin air cooled is on its way out it's almost impossible to get it to meet EPA pollution standards and keep good reliability the new HDs run so hot they wear theirself out prematurely before long I see all HDs being water cooled like the new Sportster like it or not it's just has to be for the company to survive

Harley Owners are the company's worst enemy. You don't see any discussions like this for other brands. It is not going to matter in the next dozen years or so...there will not be a company to debate the issue. It is basically what allows you to conform to other "Harley" owners. Heaven forbid if you look a little different...like riding a V-Rod or something.

HD has a CEO that used to run Puma Athletics. This company died when the last Davidson stopped running it. You can like the Honda Davidsons if you want but they are NOT real Harley's. Just go in a "Modern" HD stealership and it is obvious....this is ALL about selling units (widgets) and the "History/Heritage" is a SCAM. No Mom and Pops dealers- no bikes staying in families- no idea of what HD was that made them who they were. NOW- It is an old picture on the wall and a snot nosed used car salesman trying to convince you that you need to buy the latest thing. That is an ANTI-Harley as it gets.
