  • The tree pipit is a very inconspicuous bird about the size of a sparrow. It is grey-brown on top, the underside of the body is light, it has equally strong black markings on the chest and sides, unlike the similar meadow pipit, which has narrower markings on the sides than on the chest.
We can meet her in the lowlands, but also in the mountains.
It builds a cup-shaped nest of grasses on the ground in dense growth in light forests, clearings or meadow edges. It is a very well-hidden nest, usually under a tuft of grass that forms a canopy, where the female usually sits on 5 eggs. You can't just scare her out of the nest. You have to almost step on it to make it fly out of the nest. Then he warns and makes you hurt until he takes you away, where there is no more danger.. It then approaches the nest very carefully. It lands far away and weaves its way to the nest through the thick growth on the ground so that you don't see it.
The food of the tree pipit is mainly insects.
It breeds almost throughout Europe, including Scandinavia, and in Asia up to Western Siberia. It is a migratory species that winters in Africa in the belt south of the Sahara.
