4:13 (speaking Georgian) "Right lads, he said something, I have no idea what, let's assume it's not good. Whatever you're doing...... just stop it."
“ Dive like that again and come back here in 2 weeks and play not today, Watch It! “ - All the Info Stuart Hogg needed in one sentence. Brilliant Referee. Don't need much VAR with men like Nigel Owens tellin it how it is! 🏉🗣️👍
There was a football game on at Murrayfield in two weeks that's what makes this even funnier
@@chrisinnes2128 The match was actually being played at St. James' Park, Newcastle United's ground. It was during the 2015 World Cup.
Although I've seen Nigel saying that in many videos that's the first time I've seen the incident that led to them. 😂
@@DavidAJones11yes we know that. Try reading the comment again. It wasn't hard to misundstand what was said.
Aye against Tottenham
You’ve just got to love how he keeps the game moving under any and all situations…I think the refs aren’t credited enough for how good they make the game sometimes.
Trouble is, they can slow it TF down too. You see that 1.5 hour game?
You’re right though, good refs are underrated.
This is a man who conducts himself with great confidence and self assurance without being arrogant...a tricky thing to get right....an absolute professional
My favourite ever, and apologies I can't remember which match it was ... a line out throw went badly wrong and Nigel's comment was "I'm straighter than that throw". Golden
It must not have been in an international match, or it would have been in this video.
That was a Harlequins match. Dave Ward was the Hooker. More than that I can't recall I'm afraid.
@@ploppysonofploppy6066 Please tell me "Hooker" is an official rugby term
@@WhiteWolf-lm7gj Very difficult position hooker, not for the faint of heart.
Funny story. A news item on Tom Youngs, ex England and Leicester hooker, appeared on an American website. I think it had been translated into another language then back to English again by a computer program.
Something like "ex England prostitute, Tom Youngs retires".
How we laughed.
@@WhiteWolf-lm7gj Yes. Yes it is. The hooker is typically #9 jersey.
Mr. Nigel Owens, the best ref. ever. A legend of Rugby. We miss you
Nigel Owen.. the referee who is firm and fair and doesn’t start the clock when he has told a captain to go speak to his men…unlike certain French officials we can mention.
Wah wah snif snif.
Owens*
You mean all the french officials?
@@moije21 People have been saying for years you're a cry babe...
Definitely the GOAT. Well missed for sure.
I've been watching rugby for 65 years, never seen a better referee.
Sadly missed. Respected and generally spot on with his refereeing.
absolute world class refereeing. Miss this guy on the pitch
You've Gotta Love Nigel Owens. He is Such a great Ref. He takes no nonsense.
He's a great lad off field too, met him at Chelsea Farmer's Show once, he was eating a burger and holding a beer, he happily posed with me for a picture, a great man and role model!
That dive was like a graceful ballerina on rose petals
Miss you Nigel - a breath of fresh air!
I'm am American, pretty new to rugby but I an about to start my third year of football (soccer) refereeing. We need more of this type of authority in football! This was so fun to watch
You are so right
The Stuart Hog dive to this day is still super embarrassing. Rarely happens at all but if it does it should be an immediately yellow if the ref deems it to be a deliberate dive
I agree. That should have been a send-off right then!
What I love about rugby is play acting is not tolerated. Stuart is a brilliant player and he’ll know not to do that again
@@kevinbetsy-w9424 I don't understand why he was shaking his head. He was caught red handed; 50k people in the stadium and however many millions on TV saw exactly what he did, what is he possibly disagreeing with?
@@mattykuchar probably shaking his head at himself for being so stupid.
Sent off I think is a little harsh but definitely a penalty from where he dived
Love it, he’s taking no lip, no messing about or larking around!
I wish the refs in football were as no nonsense as him!!!
He wouldn’t able to do that in an Old Firm Derby or Galatasaray vs Fenerbahce match 🤣. Footballs a harder sport to referee as the rules are very vague in points and left up to interpretation. There’s also a lot more money riding on games.
I wish the refs in League were like that. The only one who came close is Bill Harrigan (AU NRL ref, was a New South Wales cop before that.)
It's a question of culture. The culture of rugby is one where the referee is much more respected than that of football.
Such an amazing guy and referee. Always the right words to keep everything under control and some of the shrewdest lines ever.
The respect for the ref on rugby’s pitches is something that should be shown to the kids in school!
Nigel owens is the greatest example of how to officiate in any sport, I’m yet to find any official better and sadly doubt I will! Top top bloke
I wish we had proper referees like Nigel in football. Rugby is lightyears ahead in officiating.
and players respect a lot rugby ref, with a hint of fear to keep them in line, as things can be heated while playing. But clearly football needs some harsher rules and refereeing to clean it from cheats, divers and low blows
Respect...... Professional Rugby is walking a tightrope with this word and the "professional foul". Need Ref`s like Nigel (now he has retired) to help the players navigate their way thru cheap temptations
Not just the best one-liners in Rugby, one of the greatest referees in sport
" come back in two weeks " .....love it...
The best referee in the world sad that he's retired love from Ireland 🇮🇪❤️
A joy to watch officiating. Dearly missed.
Nigel Owens, fantastic referee and such a classic 😂
One of the many reasons why rugby is so great - the respect for the ref and all it stems to
Yes. I played rugby 10 years. We never had a fight and even a referee of 70 Kg arounded by 10 players with 115 Kg was respected. "This is no soccer".
Nice Nigel going in to sort out the skirmishing when the players are over a foot taller and about four stone heavier than him😀
One of the best, coolest and funniest referees ever.
Big guys fighting and arguing until the man steps in.
Nigel = The Boss.
The greatest referee across any sport ya care to name
Best referee
facts
Agreed
Ahh, that’s why I love rugby: there's still respect in the game, from both players and refs! In what other sport can a ref say something like "play nice" and the players not only listen but they apologize too! Hehe.
MERCI MONSIEUR. Vous nous manquez déjà. Merci encore.
Brilliant ref please make a come back NIGEL
This guy is a phenomenal ref. I don't watch or play rugby at all and just ended up on this video because of the algorithm, but these few minutes have me wishing all refs in all sports were like this.
The best rugby ref ever the guy is a legend
An absolute legend of the game.
Good bloke, top ref, greatly missed.
Can we not clone this man and make he's clones ref every international game? He is the goat of referees
He is the best ref of all sports, if he reffing football games we would only have 10 players on the pitch 😂
Goat ref in any sport. Absolute legend
The last line was immense 😂
I'm 100% footy fan but have alot respect for rugby & their refs.
Even if I'm french and a bit of a chauvinist (aren't we all), you cannot NOT love Mr. Owens. Spot on and fair with his decisions on the field, a frank way of speaking, seems like a really likable human overall (on the field at least, I don't know outside of it). Really missed for sure...
They missed the best one with the line out "I'm straighter than that!"
A domestic game, I believe, and not an international.
🤣 Great line from a great bloke
The one that killed me was the dodgy lineout throw “ Im straighter than that “
Absolutely world class ref.
Unlike some referees, he loves the game. Never less than scrupulously fair. He is making a good pundit too.
Rugby will miss Nigel Owens.
Such a pity the refs in football aren't like this. Even worse is that he has retired!!
Shame they're not mike'd imo.
Mike dean is a character would be interested to hear what he says during a game
@@danbrown8731 I believe some were mic'ed a few years back, but the swearing and insults was so much that they dicided to take off the mics. Read this somewhere.
@@briankim7442 They are surely mic'ed at least for communicating with the ARs?
@@jrwntctv8091 I guess, but the mics are not broadcasted.
Rugby is probably one of the most savage and brutal team sport out there,. But got the most proper mannered refereeing ever. Nigel talks to those brutes like little boys and they all listen well!
I remember someone saying "rugby is a thuggish game played by gentlemen and football is a gentleman's game played by thugs."
Best money you could ever spend at a rugby match was the in-ear ref radio when Owens was in charge... worth every penny and then some 😆
Without a doubt the best there's been
Nigel Owens' concussion test: "what's my name?"
That's hilarious 🤣
He's the perfect rugby referee ... although, given his temperament and sense of humor I think he'd be good at anything.
The master. Won’t be a ref like him again.
The best referee ever
Absolute legend
Lets not miss Wayne Barnes' top notch advice here.
…absolutely one of a kind : BRILLIANT this Ref NO‼️👊🔥
What a beautiful sport!
Tory sport
Dear old Nigel, why don't we have referees like that in football.
Nobody reffing in the history of this magnificent Game to touch Mr N.O. ~ his temperament and grip of the moment, his immediate savvy unto the essence of ‘right now’, is much more than super brilliant.
Entertainer per excellénce and a very stern presence on the park, without killing or restraining the ‘wild freedom’ great players long for ultimately…
Must be the best sense of humour around in the Game.
A world tribute to leading refereeing ~ COMPLIMÉNT.
(Ps note:
He will be sorely missed, especially in World Cup Matches…Touché NO⁉️)
Great stuff. He is Riverlake material!
Respect for Mr Owens... no hidden agendas
The absolute best in the business
Love watching that ref
What a fabulous ref. We could do with some more nigel owens
I had to watch the first one on repeat about 6 times before I finally figured out what was going on
People forget that at one time Nigel Owens used to do a bit of stand up comedy so he is trained in coming up with one line quips.
aw...you missed "I'm straighter than that"...my all time favourite
I've played soccer most my life and if I could change one thing about the sport, it would be to have the referee player dynamic similar to rugby's.
Looks like rugby is "catching up" with footbal in reality and respect for the refs is decreasing
What a legend!!!
He was awesome!!!
Top man Top ref !!
Got to love him !
2:04 blud really said “say my name"
Nigel the legend..
Football Primadonas needs these kind of words
One of the best
Got to admit, I'm not really a rugby fan, although I will watch the Six Nations and the Rugby World Cup. I will also admit though, that I like Nigel as a ref.I would have loved to have seen him at work in a football match, severely rebuking those players who love to cheat and intimidate.
Great ref👍👍
Yup, he was the best !
love it nz here
Now, for the first time, I've seen the "Dive like that again" incident. That was nothing, as soon as he kicked the ball the player tried to not hit him. It was a little love tap.
Love the guy
The 2015 RWC was almost 7 years ago.. YIKES
GRROAT - greatest rugby-referee of all time.
The best
Miss Nigel Owens referring highly respected in Referring Rugby Cycles
Nigel Owens made the name Nigel cool. 👍
We miss you Nigel!
man, dont yah just miss this guy ....
The ref acts more like a coach.
I wish that football could be refereed like rugby. No talking back to the referee allowed, any dissent on a penalty or even just not retreating and its an extra 10 metres nearer the goal line.
Rugby is a much more technical game than football and the video ref is accepted more readily as well.
a pity we don't have a ref like this in football....sorry Nigel, soccer.
What I wouldn't give for a ref like that in footy
“I am straighter than that!”
Da Boss!
