It's two completely different mindsets. It should be treated as such.
I played in college. I still remember my first day and the Captain of the team explaining the rules, the most important of which was that we address the referee as sir and that this is a sport that allows no BS. #ElegantViolence

Been watching these referee compilation from rugby a lot now, and am falling in love with the sport. Few sports out there with such assertive refs and such gentlemenlike behaviour by these big athletes. I´m gonna learn this sport... Football-players could learn a thing or two about how to act on a pitch...
The best comment I ever heard was in spring during a 6-Nations-game, when the French ref told the captain "I may be wrong, but this is my decision." I had to accept it, because this was a situation one couldn't judge in front of the TV.

As a football fan having just seen the rugby World Cup I am truly jealous of the quality, clarity, transparency of your officiating. Not only that but also the conduct of your players. Football may be the world's most popular sport, but it stands in the shadow of Rugby in this respect.

Well their jobs are to talk. Especially when the refs are just talking to themselves. There wasnt much going on during that time and their job is to fill that in. It wouldnt have mattered in the long run because as soon as theyve made the decision, the commentators will recap what happened and say what the outcome of the decision would be. Its just merely how youre suppose to conduct yourself under certain situations. Like say if you were a boxer and you downed an opponent, youre suppose to sit and stay in the opposing corner. Same goes for media. If its quiet, or boring, or slow, you're suppose to create a distraction to retain people's attention at all times.

There are several things that sets rugby apart from soccer, aside of the sport itself. Yes, the players has a deep-grown respect for the sport, the other players and the refs. That's amazing! The players trusts the refs. But, the commentators are also a big part of rugby staying classes above other sports. 99% of the commentators of professional matches makes an effort to be neutral, knowing the rules of the games, and they are objective in their commentating. That's really important as well! For rugby to stay classes above all other sports, all parties of the game MUST hold a high level of professionalism and objectiveness. I hope that football (soccer) can get just 15% up the level. I love football, and I love to referee games. When I use the mentality and communication from rugby, it really helps...
I'm a ref as well, no matter how much respect you show to the players there is always so much contempt in return. I'd like to see some rugby staff come over and help integrate such skills.

Hi, so I've had this same thing asked on previous compilations, and the reason I don't include it is simply for time. This video is already nearly a quarter of an hour long (and it's the 11th video in the series), including the actions would bump the video lengths up to ludicrous amounts. Besides all that, I don't think it's that important, my video is specifically about the referees mannerism and tactics with the players, there are plenty of big hits, red card whatever videos out there for the actual hits themselves. -devin

If there is anyone competent in UEFA, rugby refs should be signed as consultants: not rules, but widespread demeanor on the field. This video is proof that this is possible... So what's lacking? To have willpower you need to have the will to push.
From the first time you touch a rugby ball, you are told that the ref is "Sir" (whatever gender they are), that you do not argue with them (or he can penalise you 10 metres, then your own team get on your case) and that even if the ref is clearly wrong, that is the correct interpretation of the Law for that instance. I coached and could tell the players from a football background instantly, as the first thing I had to deal with was their tendency to argue the bloody toss about everything. Rugby is dangerous, it has to be played with discipline, and that starts with respecting the ref and the whistle.
I see players disagree sometimes after seeing yellow or red but somehow they never argue, they never shout on a referee, they never touch or push the referee. I was a football player and a big fun of football but our behavior was completely opisite to that what i see in rugby. Amazing how huge difference is in those two fantastic disciplines when it comes to face referee's decision. Can't what football any more seeing what footballers do to refs and them selves and yet pretend nothing happend, they dive, cheat although they know can be verified by VAR.
It's quite interesting. Rugby is a game that was created by English private schools. Rugby players often come from good backgrounds with a good education. The respect for the referee would have been a given in private schools. Cricket is similar. Football is the sport of the working class....I think I'm right in saying well educated young men would choose Rugby or Cricket as a means of expressing their sporting aptitude, leaving football to the uneducated masses. Is that accurate? Either way, football is full of hooliganism and a lack of respect, both on and off the playing field from both players and supporters. Football most certainly isn't 'the beautiful game'.

The rugby refs use the players names if they know them
Its also common in the NRL where the ref calls out the players by name.

If there is anyone competent in UEFA, rugby refs should be signed as consultants: not rules, but widespread demeanor on the field.
This video is proof that this is possible... So what's lacking? To have willpower you need to have the will to push.
From the first time you touch a rugby ball, you are told that the ref is "Sir" (whatever gender they are), that you do not argue with them (or he can penalise you 10 metres, then your own team get on your case) and that even if the ref is clearly wrong, that is the correct interpretation of the Law for that instance. I coached and could tell the players from a football background instantly, as the first thing I had to deal with was their tendency to argue the bloody toss about everything. Rugby is dangerous, it has to be played with discipline, and that starts with respecting the ref and the whistle.
I see players disagree sometimes after seeing yellow or red but somehow they never argue, they never shout on a referee, they never touch or push the referee. I was a football player and a big fun of football but our behavior was completely opisite to that what i see in rugby. Amazing how huge difference is in those two fantastic disciplines when it comes to face referee's decision. Can't what football any more seeing what footballers do to refs and them selves and yet pretend nothing happend, they dive, cheat although they know can be verified by VAR.
Can't they do this in soccer and field hockey? Too much whining.

It's quite interesting. Rugby is a game that was created by English private schools. Rugby players often come from good backgrounds with a good education. The respect for the referee would have been a given in private schools. Cricket is similar. Football is the sport of the working class....I think I'm right in saying well educated young men would choose Rugby or Cricket as a means of expressing their sporting aptitude, leaving football to the uneducated masses. Is that accurate? Either way, football is full of hooliganism and a lack of respect, both on and off the playing field from both players and supporters. Football most certainly isn't 'the beautiful game'.

Mr A no if you see the ref blows the whistle and the black hooker then picks the ball up to try and waste time. iF you have ever played rugby you would understand that a few seconds could win you the match. Guess that's the New Zealand mentality and that's why we're so strong at rugby
@@abcd1234jason I understand what you mean but the Score is at 12 - 0 to the black team with 3 and a half minutes till the half and they are just about inside their own 22. There's no logic to why he'd want to tap and go considering the most sensible option would be to kick for a lineout.
Also he could've gone for the ball instead of pushing the player. If he did so there wouldn't have been an issue.

Being sensible is being smart. There's no difference in the two. You think running the ball from just about 80 meters out is smart? a kick to touch would gain you 30+ meters easy. Gambling on whether the opposition team would make a "Mistake" is a retarded way of playing especially when you're so far from the opposition goal line.

Since the Law change that allowed tactical replacements more boofs have crept into the game. Size has increased because the ones who grew muscle instead of brains could be included. [Perhaps we should only allow medical replacements and include one disabled person (with replacements of course) and maybe go back to Rugby as it was designed.] No replacements even? There is no need for them apart from keeping the gambling community happy. Don't play medically compromised players, solved.
Other advantages? Collisions are lighter, still heavy enough for the Vandals and Goths, but 80 minute players are by nature leaner. Less damage to the pitch at scrums. Fewer working class IQs so more 'bright' players which could be very useful.
