Comment a reff you prefer!
Darragh I hope that’s sarcasm
Definitely Roman poite
The Aussies will say Romain Poite for what happened in the 2011 World Cup quarter finals
Die Hard Football I like Paul Williams
Jk Nigel Owen's of course
I saw England/Ireland at Twickenham last summer - when Nigel was announced as the ref the crowd went wild! Bigger cheer than for any of the players!
I mean..you can even see it here, every time a ref gets tackle or hit, people cheer
When Nigel gor hit on NZ v SA, people started booing...amazing
I'm a simple man. I see Nigel Owen, I click like and subscribe.
Class
Likewise
What I love about rugby is that we hardly hear players swear at referee unlike some other major sports and the referee control the game with good authority like Nigel.
'I'm straighter than that.' ... Kiwi here, bent straight or otherwise, we love you Nigel.
I think the reason he is such a good referee is because he loves the game. He wants the game to flow because when it does flow there is nothing better to watch.
I think it was the 2011 world cup when Dan Carter was about to kick for touch on a penalty and he said "I'm fucked" Nigel Owen's awesome response was "don't swear you are on television"
Awesome ref, respected by many all across the world.
He said "I'm fking tired".
I think the exact quote is "Don't swear, you're on the telly" :) love him
I must admit, he's proven himself to be a top quality Ref over the years.
Been watching rugby since the late 70's, and can say with conviction that Nigel is probably in the top 5 referees I have ever seen. If and when he retires, I hope he opens a refereeing school.
@@Karma-qt4ji he is excellent. Years ago he ran a youth rugby referee training course. His opening line was, 'the most important aspect of being a ref is to make sure you choose your whistle carefully, because you are told so often to shove it up own your a..., you may as well be comfortable'. The room fell to pieces. From there on it was all business, superb referee and an excellent teacher.
@@gunner678 Hahahahaha ye that sounds like something he would say XD
Big of yous.
If you love and understand this game then you will have grown to appreciate just how hard this job is. Managing 30+ alphas, all testosterone-charged, slightly dehydrated, with cortisol-reduced thinking processes, a baying one-eyed crowd and a beautifully arcane set of Laws, to be done at pace. To get to the top of that and stay on top. Enormous effort. I'd love to shake his hand and say thank you.
Great post
Insightful and articulate.....
Agree...that's why i respect rugby so much...refs are respected as the authority figure they are
Of course there's always some douchebag who make questionable calls (like in any other sports)..but in general, the refs are the ones that call tje shots
Since you like using fancy words to sound smart, use this one.
“Sesquipedalian” it describes your post perfectly.
@@stevenmcalister826 sound smart? I thought I was, probably a foot and a half higher than some and the same below others....
Best ref in the business. Best of all time. Absolutely legendary.
The BEST referee in rugby history BY FAR! Tears will be flooded everywhere the day he anouncess that he's gonna hang up his wistle and call it a day😢😢..😭.
Absolutely agree.
Maybe tears of joy in Australia. Of maybe they are over that by now.
"I don't know if we've met before...."
As if that matters... Everyone knows the Legend that is Nigel 'The Boss' Owens 💯👌🏻🏴 CYMRU AM BYTH 🏴❤️🏴
"This is not soccer!" - legendary ;-)
Tedious, more like. zzzz
@@Leifr952 Yet true.
@@smythharris2635 It was funny the first time. Now it's getting rather tired.
@@Leifr952 I'm not concerned with its humorous valuation, simply its implicit accuracy as an oblique observation.
@@smythharris2635 Fine, but it's a disrespectful and needless observation that only strengthens rugby's inferiority complex, and it needs to stop.
It's missing that great, sardonic remark after a crooked throw-in - 'I'm straighter than that.'
Classic Owens. He has to make every incident about himself.
2:17 Nigel Owens acting as Chris Robshaw’s Mom
Lol yeah
Favorite moment.
Christopher!
@@danpearce4547 Sorry Sir..
Yep my 91 year old Mum still says Christopher when she wants to make a point and I'm her 63 year old little boy.
A true gentleman and a legend
The only thing missing from this clip is that he went and shook the hand of the ball boy he "yellow carded", shows the genuine compassion of the man.
We need more Nigel Owens
we will all miss his favourite saying 'this is rugby not soccer
Only rugby fans. No one else cares for his tedious catchphrases.
@Amer Essor Groan. And it's exactly that kind of pompous and deluded attitude that sums up rugby so perfectly.
His best line was during a line out - 'that throw was as straight as I am'
@madabbafan that is a good one but I like the other better
He should open schools in Rugby nations because like wow... Bad ref can ruin a Saturday
Bloody legend he is!!!! I appreciate all the time and attention he has given to our game.
Thats my favorite one: "off you go before I change the colour of it !!"
😂😂😂
"Off you go before I change the colour of it", truly is the clearest instruction that you've reach the limit of what you can get away with before being removed from the rest of the game
Every country trust him as a referee.... probably the only referee every nation would want to ref their game
Nigel Owens only speak one time..second time is yellow or red😂🔥🔥
l' have Always said that a great rugby game is first a great referee game. In this game, with the present rules, the referee is clearly the conductor of the orchestra.
Nigel Owens, the superstar of ruby referees.
He's a fantastically unique and brilliant ref
Even the tallest players on the pitch were all afraid of him and always stayed away from him unless he called their names and shirt numbers.
I love Nigel!! He's taking no lip, no dramatics and no messing about.
Brilliant ref .... fantastic performances ... respected !
…this guy N.O. is (was) just incredible on the Park - BEST ÉVER!!
Most amazing command and atmosphere of disciplined play and tremendous sense of gamesmanship he created spontaneously.
Superb, highly gifted touch sense of humour.
Great pleasure to watch, enjoy.
A world lead in this manner - going to leave a massive void. 👊🔥!!
I love the spirit of the game
Love watching this man as much as the match!
Fantastic love and respect for this man
Off you go b4 I change the colour of it! Lol
Love the lads piling in jokingly to form a maul when Nigel takes the ball and turns around to apologise and restart the game! Oh how we miss him!
Will be missed when he retires.
But if he becomes a commentator? That would be awesome.
@@danfishlock8306 Great point. I hope that he goes that route. The Welsh accent sounds so great in rugby.
He better have a testimonial match
He will never retire 😂😂
The world and the players respect and love the guy, IMO. (Including myself)
Best referee by far love from Ireland
Proper refereeing. Exciting!!!! 😂 😂 😂
A lot of great content recently man! Keep it up
Great video. Best of Nigel.
OFF YOU GO BEFORE I CHANGE THE COLOUR
Quality refereeing, the voice of authority that players have to listen to
The greatest reff of all time
Legend
“Off you go before I change the colour of it!” This is why we love rugby, you treat the ref with respect and don’t argue or you face harsher punishment 😂
Gotta love Nigel! The man is the best as a referee and as a great ambassador of and for rugby! I love how he commands with humor and discipline! The players have and show a lot of respect for him and he respects the players! So great!
Off you go!
He should open a referee school for football and this type of refereeing should be introduced in football. This will then ge5 away from fake diving, harassing referees. Nigel Owens is a phenomenal referee
legend, best by a country mile!
The legend himself
Class act
“Ah Christopher”.
That says it all doesn’t it.
The respect is there
The realest MVP
The Nigel Owen show everytime he refs.
Best referee✔
He's the best referee ! Firm when needed, fair, hilarious comments & I wish the football referees had this much respect from the players ! He is simply the best 👋👋👋
dont know his name, but the bold dude now retired, italian i wanna say... had a similar recspect from players in soccer
Why the needless dig at football? Is simply appreciating Nigel Owens not enough? This strange attitude is not healthy for rugby and does the game no favours whatsoever.
@@Leifr952. Stating it how it is. Premiership players treat the ref. as something smelly on their shoes. You don’t get it in rugby I’m happy to say.
@@johnlewis9745 You've missed the point I was making. Why not just praise Nigel Owens for being a good ref? What's football got to do with it?
@@Leifr952 Both rugby and football are major sports and I have no problem in saying what I did.
the best ref ever in the game
I honestly enjoyed this video so much 😂👏
Respect
King
1:25 #16 stops big man from piling in with a look of real fear!
Good referees can engage with players effectively to manage a fixture safely. As a club and school referee I enjoy Nigel's use of humour and when he needs to appropraitely be stern. One of the best to watch and learn from.
A great referee. Well done Nigel, the voice of authority and reason.
Christopher
He a good Referee
GOAT
respect
Legend, legend, legend.
No ref in any sports ever commanded the level of respect that this guy does
The best!,!
Brilliant referree
amazing miss u nigel wish u were in FRANCE
He is class
the best official of any sport .
The best reff ever!
Off you go before I change the colour red
Watching Countryfile and I find out that Nigel has retired to be a farmer.
"I'm the only ref in this village".
Pure class. When he retired, rugby union lost a gem.
If football had such a ref
Bak u go
I would love to see Nige ref a premier league game. He'd put them in their place
It would be a five a side game before halftime. :)
What's football got to do with it? This is a rugby video. It would be wonderful if we could simply learn to appreciate rugby without comparing it with football the whole time.
@@darkiee69 Football matches are abandoned if a team has 7 or fewer players, so it wouldn't end as 'a five-a-side' game, as you claim. Why are rugby fans so obsessed with football anyway?
@@Leifr952 it is an appreciation of rugby and a testament to the attitude and maturity of the players and officials. It puts football to shame and FIFA, the FA and individual players should look to rugby to see how to properly conduct themselves as sportspeople/ role models/ representatives of their sport
@@tomosprice8136 You have entirely missed my point. Why even raise the subject of football in the first place? Is simply appreciating and celebrating rugby's merits not enough? This strange obsesession with lecturing football is very unhealthy for rugby and it needs to stop. Talking down - and talking down to - other sports is not the right way to promote rugby.
3:22 soooo we just gonna ignore that one guy or what?
Hes announced his retirement, a sad day for Rugby and refereeing, the best by far ( and i'm English)
nigel is the G.O.A.T of Refs
Steenkamp is a beast.
Would love a england back row tribute like all 3 of them billy v Tom curry and Sam Underhill
What’s he saying at 4:03?
Shame this doesn’t include the “I am straighter than that” moment.
The legend that is Nigel Owens
Does he still do it
Yep
Tomorrow he will ref his 100th international test match. I hope he makes 150. From an Englishman. The best ref bar non.
Guys what does he say to Hogg at min. 2:43?
Hogg dived when being tackled while taking a relieving kick. The game was at Newcastle Utd football ground if memory serves me. He said 'if you want to do that come back in 2 weeks time' basically when football was being played. Fantastic line and I'm a Scot :-)
Knowing that makes it such a better line. 🤣
@@peacemaker6662 nice!
I know everyone talks about football with these type of refs. But, these sort of videos need to be taught young footballers coming through. Its appalling the amount of disrespect players have for refs. Tougher discipline is needed. This sort of attitude is needed in football. Although I prefer football, it puts football players and refs to shame.
If football had the sin bin i would think bad mouthing refs would be far less, losing a key player for ten minutes would create more space too
@@eggy1962 I'm all for a sin bin in football/soccer, also because it would clamp down on tactical fouls and should increase scoring. Only issue I can see is that a flurry or cards, which sometimes happens in that sport, would lead to an 8-on-8 game for several minutes.
@@Liggie55821 i think it would cut down ref abuse which is bad in football, as for losing several players in one incident then so be it....plenty of open space to take advantage of. It would still take a while to work as football players are not always the sharpest tools in the box.
TBF rugby is a physical game. Players know they need the ref to keep them safe, as well as apply rules.
@@stephenrossiter2679 Come to think of it, American football should have a version of the sin bin. Commit a personal foul penalty, you have to sit for the rest of the drive (or the next drive, if that play was the last of the drive).
Re: soccer, I'm more interested in a sin bin to prevent "professional" fouls. Often a team that gives the ball away in midfield will hack down an opponent and purposely earn a yellow card, so they can prevent a quick counterattack and let their defenders get set. Commentators and coaches will call those "good" cards, a phrase I think that should never be uttered. Goals that arise from a professional foul binning should make those fouls less appealing.
Let's begin 😊
there are only 2 refs in sports that i blindly respect... Pierluigi Collina and Nigel Owens...
THE BOSS. Norling was Mary Poppins compared to Mr Owens, in my opinion.
That's a proper ref.
If John Inman was a referee....
