Bonham Triplets and Paice Rolls

- Combining the style of two great drummers, John Bonham and Ian Paice.
This video also has something new I have installed on the kit. Believe it or not I actually drilled two holes in each drum shell; for the classic bass drum cymbal mount and for internal felt pads called "tone controls" by Ludwig. Don't regret it though! I love being able to control the dampening by simply turning a knob and I do believe it has made huge improvements on the sound of the toms. - Hudba
That bass drum sounds AMAZING
LegoJKL search for Jeff Ocheltree's dvd called Trust your ears.
LegoJKL cant go wrong with Ludwig drums. What kind do you play?
+ Vineshroom When I got the 26 inch bass drum that's when I noticed I got the Bonham sound.
Vineshroom tune the resonant side high and the batter side medium. get a 24 or 26 inch bass drum
Agreed. Sounds HUGE is better description. Love how long the 'dive" lingers on toms. Superb.
Ian Paice is underrated. He is still kicking ass at 71 years old! Thank you for a great video
not underrated, he's a superstar drummer from the 70's that we all know and love.
@@bishlap agrees. widely considered a legend.
@@bishlap And yet all I ever hear is: "JOHN BONHAM" this, and "JOHN BONHAM" that.
Same with: "JIMMY PAGE!!!" and "ritchie blackmore."
@@bluewater3783 it's the way "fans" react to everything, whether sports/music whatever, everyone thinks they know best. I don't bother w/ the silliness, just appreciate the men who accomplished these feats or whatever u wanna call it.
I can love Bonham's drumming, I can also love Paice's, or Carl Palmer, all a matter of what u like. It would be stupid to like one drummer and hate the other only bc one is more popular.
@@bluewater3783 dont forget ian paice is a really rock jazz drummer than bonzo. He's totally badass as bonzo.. Maybe bonzo just had good sound in recordings. Anyway jimmy is the guy who help him to get the sound right. But!,
You see 'burn', all the chops in that song are coming from the jazz fills. He did the strokes while the vocal flow, can you imagine about his idea?
Your performance exceeds the ones played by renowned drummers who have acquired fame by just being in the right groups at the right time. Kudos to you sir!
I've been drumming for 20 years and after watching that I feel like giving up! You have such a natural grace around the kit, your licks look effortless (I know they're not) and there's so much 'feel' in the sound. A true master - thanks for sharing.
Dougie Douglas Thanks for watching and for your comments!
hahaha
Excellent GD! A fusion of Moby Dick & The Mule... Triplets & Singles & Doubles. Ian Paice drum part with a jazzy touch is brilliant. Cheers...
Fantastic drumming and the tuning is exactly like the late great Bonham, very impressive.
Thank you so much!
Nice
My favorite Bonham snare sound... listen to Rotterdam 1980 and you will hear why. Any soundboard bootleg from 1980 for that matter
Take a bow Sir!...You have nailed that Bonham sound and groove...... Awesome.
Thank you kindly!
Unquestionably well deserved! It simply doesn't get any groovier and/or unique than Bonham played well ;) IP awesome too of course (!) but far more standardised in terms of rudiments design.
You combined all my favorite drummers, Bonham, Paice, & Palmer
You play absolutely beautifully. This is Bonham quality! not seen this quality on youtube before now. Wow!
+ajwasp
Thanks!
any time. really inspirational there, thanks to you!
+ajwasp I agree, but, joedrums is great too...give him a listen.
Bonzo would be Proud of your Drumming Sir
I've gotta say that this is the most accurate bonham sound i've ever heard
At Last , finally someone just playing without all the talking and who you just simply watch & Appreciate !
Thank you mate ..
Love the the sound of that snare and those drums, Ludwig makes killer drums!
I am glad you enjoyed it. THANKS!
Of all the youtube drumming videos out there, this ones right up my street. Natural and flowing and soulfull without too much emphasis on fancy!
Love it.
I am glad you felt it!
A benchmark video that I will go to for inspiration for my drumming. Great examples of flawless technique, fluidity and execution. Did I say fluidity? Wow. I've been playing for a couple of years and am starting to get my way around the kit pretty well for a beginner. I've been told I am a natural, but that only gets you so far. It takes a lot of practice just to be a mediocre drummer, but I get better and better. Another five years or so of playing everyday, as I do, I might get good. I never picked up drumsticks until I was 50. Maybe before I am dead I could play like this. May not happen but it's something to shoot for. I enjoy my drumming for better or worse. It's a part of me now.
Graham Caswell Go for it, drumming is good for the body and soul.
That is awesome brother. I've been playing drums since I was a junior in high school n I'm 51 today. compared to these kids today and all the things like this great video they have to their advantage that is even considered a late start. Because I didn't have a drum set n the cash to buy one for practice I really didn't know what a triplet was or how to do it correctly until just this year n I'm still working hard to get it down tight because of all those years playing in bands n faking things like that and because I was a natural like you I had ways of rolls sound like triplets or whatever lol.My senior year I joined jazz band n there were 3 other experienced drummers in the class who had been playing since grade or middle school n they were all seniors too. Boy was I nervous one of them was a butt head towards me n would laugh at me if I messed up wich didn't help my nerves but our teacher who is still teaching there today,, the first time I ever sat behind a kit n tried to play a beat told me I was a natural. Long story short, the butthead n the others were doing all the songs at the beginning of the year and by the end of the year I was doing most them as the first drummer lol. I was 17 years old n the following summer I played my first professional bar gig with a older very good n well known band around here . I took about 8n a half years off n the whole time I was depressed n just felt like something was missing in my life. Thanks to my cousin who helped me threw my depressed days I'm playing again. He said ""dude you are one of the best drummers around this area your missing your music, your passion , the thing that makes u happy lol!"" So i just started playing gigs again last year n I'm playing better than I ever have n doing things on the drums I never thought I could do. Drumming is good for the heart, soul, stress and clarity of mind!! So keep it up n never lose what makes you you. Have a great day and God bless
Take it from someone like me. If you put your mind to it and want to do it bad enough, you'll find a way. I never thought it could be possible, but I CAN, after all these years. It comes to a point for some of us, where, you just think it, then play it. But first, there will be a lot of practice. Lots of blood, sweat and tears. As well as sacrifices.
@Graham Caswell, five years later. How is the drumming coming along? Still improving and more importantly, enjoying yourself I hope.
Finally a good drummer with a really good sounding drum set. Thank you.
Probably one of the best drummers i have ever heard period. Incredible chops but also so swinging and not afraid to be simple at times. The buddy rich style solos you did were also mind boggling good
Wow, thank you so much!
Looooooooool it looks kinda like your foot is coming out under the tom! Was like damn this guy has long legs! Took me a sec to realise it was another cam angle.
Paul McDonagh you made me laugh i just looked at it your point of veiw and i would have thoughy ghd samd thing if i didng knoe allready it was s different camara you must be high l
Hahahahaha
I’m reading this in Nov 2020 and goddamn I just spat my coffee out laughing.
Love this snare sound. Great sounding kit.
Hey, this is the best feeling what i have ever seen. Greetings from Germany, Peter
Wow!! I think my jaw broke when it hit the desk while I was watching this! Simply amazing!
KIT SOUNDS GOOD NICE
Wow, incredible playing...
Really incredible. Masterful playing and beautiful tuning of the drums.
Wow! My 2 favorite drummers in 1 package! Outstanding! And one of the best sounding kits I've heard for a while. Thanks for that.
Your an awesome player bro. Great chops great feel great inspirations . can't go wrong
Nick Gelyon Thank you
11 people didn't like this?... pfft Sounds great!
That's jealousy!
drumdad124 Maybe they prefer Charlie Watts ?
+Thierry Hernando Sorry but even though Charlie Watts is a LEGEND,he is a very BORING drummer...Just my opinion....NOT hatin'....Bonham,Paice,Ward,and Moon kept drumming interesting
I agree with you : Charlie Watts is a very boring drummer, of course! I told anything else? :) And Bonham, Paice, Ward and Moon are (were) awesome. Mc Brain too.
drumcatfairy77 Neal Peart too
Absolutely, without a doubt top-notch playing. Nice to see a real feel/groove/technique player on here. Excellent tribute to two of the greatest!
This is one of the best videos on youtube. I'm come back to it again and again.
Too bad zeppelin couldn't do a final album and have you sit in for it got the groove the sound love it
I could only wish on that !!!
finally someone knows how to tune...this might be the closest true bonham sound on ytube...impressive!!! and i'm very critical. you need to do a tuning video...also a how to mic to get a true sound video...guys get a close sound but mic poorly or mic decent and miss the sound entirely...just cause you have the bonham kit does not mean the sound comes in the boxes! well done. (wow...i made a similar comment a year ago and forgot...oh well, it's been a year and still the best sound out there)
+Jeff Porcaro Groove Master
The room mic makes a world of difference as well as a mic on the batter side of the bass drum.
THANK YOU!
last night i ran through about 10 bonham videos...only two were good, you and another on vistalites had the best sound...he captured that kits essence and you caught the classic sound...i will not mention the guy who tries to be a bonzo expert here, but man, he needs to watch your videos! lol
I consider myself a modern drummer because I'm only 22 but man I can't get enough of those 70's style drum sounds and grooves! What an experience it must have been to watch the greats like Bonham and Paice live back in the day!
Great sound, great playing, beautiful kit! There's a lot to like here.
Beast sounding kit!!
You ever checked out the Bonham Drummer on the channel Kick It Like Bonham? now that dude mics his kit insane!
The tambourine on the hi-hat sounds very Bonham like also.
You mean "Bonham-esque"
That was awesome and time well spent watching!!!! Thank you for posting.
Great feel, very well played and probably the best sounding kit that I've ever heard.
Nicely played. Every drummer knows Bonham inside out but not many know Ian Paice as well but they really should as he is phenomenal and great doubles. I remember learning Fireball and for years thinking that was in the bag and then I watched a teacher on here and found out Paice plays 3 notes on the cymbal and not quarters. That is the amazing thing about Bonham and Paice you can always learn something new no matter how well you think you know the songs.
+JohnQpublic I would not disagree with that at all. Ian Paice uses a lot more rudiments. He is an old man now but I saw him at a drum clinic a few years ago and he can still play a single stroke roll with one hand quicker than I can play with two. Definitely a great drummer. For listening to rudiments I also like Carl Palmer.
+JohnQpublic I completely agree though he played at speed in different time signatures 5/4 6/8 etc so I will forgive him but his timing being raised as an issue is something I have noticed myself but I had some drum teachers when younger who refused to use him as a teaching aid as they thought his timekeeping suspect. I agree this is true for ELP but his work with Asia is much better with regards to timekeeping.
+JohnQpublic Definitely much steadier I agree. That first Asia album has a lot of big songs on Only Time will tell and the classic Heat of the Moment. I like the riff on Sole Survivor too.
misfit price is great one of my favorites Bonham Price and palmer
Robert Miller I agree but there are lots of good drummers if we take the time to find them. I was listening to new Korn and Ray Luzier has a really nice groove and also like the drumming on the Oprah album Sorceress
Thank you! The LM402 definitely has a sound that's unique to it. Thanks.
Congratulations!! Great play, and awesome kit!!
You kit just sounds amazing and your rolls single and double are incredible. Ive watched your video many times. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Thats some seriuos grooving. like it alot
Hey man, I think Bonzo jumped into your skin after he passed on to greener pastures. Great tribute to the master.
One of the best videos containing anything to do with Bonham.
Thanks and great work.
Just finished learning Bonham triplets because of your lesson video, probably the best lesson online! Its short, explains what you need to know and its too the point. I'm addicted to these fills now. So thank you!
Wow. Just...holy houses. Of the holy.
lol...cool
Talk crap, cause they don't know or can't play , Go play with your play station -X box or what ever you play with ...
What a bad ass drum kit!
I want one!
Dude you Rock!
+Lawrence Del Toro
lol, thanks!
Love that snare! Really excellent playing..Bonham would be proud!
Excellent. You combine two great styles into a mega great style.
Great! No chattin' around just playing.
All the people here talking about Bonham and forgetting about Ian Paice... Typical...
I noticed that too. And, like you, wasn't the least bit surprised. Shame, though, 'cause I think he blended their two styles very nicely. And, with a kit that sounds like a perfect cross between the two as well.
@@Innerspace100 Ian Paice Farrrr BETTER and profecional drummer. Muchh much BETTER than Bonham. I love them both.
ja, Bonham iss ne Schlaftablette gegen Paice.
@@nordeiche Bullshit.
WHO'S < IAN PAICE TYPICAL > ?????
How have I not seen this drummer before! Instant fan. Thank you YT suggestions!
You are a kick ass drummer! And the kit sounds huge!! I will check out more of your videos. Keep hittin' em!
MUITO BOM, APESAR DA PORRADARIA A LÁ BONHAM A SUA LEVEZA É INCONTESTÁVEL. ENORME BARULHO DA BATERA É PERFEITO.
I'm not a drummer, but I believe you're As Good As It Gets. Don't see any new posts, in the event you do consider Carmine Appice. Thanks 👍
It's funny because I studied the Carmine Appice Realistic Rock books when I was a kid and I attribute the Bonham drumming style coming to me naturally because of this.
Heck , that's a solid solo! Great video with the clear angles. Thanks!
Thank you for the great video & the solo. Ludwig rocks 🥁🔥🤘
are your toms 14,16, 18? or 13, 16, 18? 24 kick? sounds sweet.
14, 16, 18, 26...Thanks.
GrooveDrummin Dam'n :p that 14" tom almost looks like a floortom :p great playing btw ;)
Ian Paice is so good that 99.9% of the times all he is playing in his songs and solo's is Single Strokes, Double Strokes and Single Parradiddles. Personally, I've always like him better than Bonham because he sounds and plays like a Rock-N-Roll Buddy Rich.
You are an amazing drummer! A real treat to watch!! One of the best sounding kits I have ever heard! Those cymbals are amazing!!
Paiste 2002s...
Just found this following some Ian Paice videos. Man, you're great, and you make it look effortless! Beautiful rolls, and your bass foot independence, wow! This video is a treat
YoDZ! On this the 29th anniversary of losing the late great John Bonham, I have watched this a few times and are once again totally amazed by your skills my brother! You totally nail all of those legs and once again you inspire me to go into my garage practice hard and sweat. Thanks for putting up all of your posts and all of your lessons you are the best.
I'm flattered! Thank you so much for the kind words and I'm glad I could inspire you.
That kit sounds wonderful, great stuff!
Thank you for taking the time to put in the three camera angles.Very helpful, and professional. That was fantastic drumming. Thank you !!
Thanks for commenting!
Such great playing!!!!! On the money, swinging & with great groove. I salute you!
Great feel, groove and delightfully tuned drums.
your soloing technique is amazing... its hard for me to just watch and learn.... but its a pleasure watching for sure. thanks for the multi angle video shots as well.
Dude, brilliant. Lovely kit, and you are killing it. One up. Two down. Yes.
What a kit! Sounding so nice!
Great playing cousin! 🥁😎
That was awesome, you and the drums sound great !
My two favourite drummers combined into one! Thank you...
It's a pleasure to watch you. Your drums are beautifullt tuned. You make a great sound, man. Well done.
Had to watch it again. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💜💜💜💜
your videos are always a pleasure for my ears !
Badass playing, that kit sounds deadly...thanks for the upload
I spend hours on here watching drum technique videos, and have for several years. That was by far the best drumming I have heard/seen. Just fantastic. Great job!
I have to agree that this video stands out partly because of combining two of the Legends of rock and also the incredible finesse that he pulls it off with! If you haven't already checked him out see Akira Jimbo and the Casiopea band. The whole band are all incredible players and their music is so uplifting.
Great stuff man. Good feel and chops.
The drums sound great too, love the snare and those 2002's are just beautiful.
Simply incredible! I find myself lost for words... Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
In my mind there is only one drummer,I closed my eyes and listened to this,....now there is two ...Rock on Dude !
Wow!!! Fantastic drumming :-) super sweet rolls. Nice shoes as well.
Those drums sounds Amazing.. Absolutely Amazing. Great drumming as well.
That kit is beautiful...awesome.
Amazing work fella...always said great drumming is all about feeling and groove, and you've got it in spade loads....thanks for posting, a real pleasure to watch !
pleasure to hear your comments!
Enjoyed watching this. love the drum set sound.
Excellent! Love the BIG drums as well!!! Cheers!
Nice job incorporating Paice and Bonham. Impressed!!
bohnam ,paice and a jazzy finish..the best tuning ever and the sound,oh god the sound of the kit.youtube's best drumming video for sure. multi respects to the sound engineer
Thank you very much. I have been doing sound -almost- as long as I've been playing drums.
great stuff. sound of kit is spot on. keep posting.
This video is clear as glass! Nice job man keep rocking! Love the new cymbal arm on the bass drum, i have one myself but its a gibraltar.
You are an absolute hero, amazing talent !!
The best drummers make the hardest grooves and fills look effortlessly easy- sweet drumming fella.
Man I hope you're making money doing this cause it's sure a joy listening to you!
Great !!
I love the Paice part a giant above all - a master of the roll and the snerr...
And the Bonham sound !
Wow !!
Nice drumming man. Your kit sounds amazing!
As I read the comments and I'm listening to you drum without watching, it's like Bonzo is playing. You are gifted my friend.
Wow, that's amazing. Thank you that you made this public, Sir.
Incredible work! Fantastic.
Great sounding drums and great playing......I really enjoyed this....
As a drummer myself of 30 years I can honestly say other than watching Bono or Buddy videos for a fix of perfection in drumming, all your videos display a supreme level of chops perfect feel grooves and timing , and your sound is just great. Thanks for sharing these totally enjoy all your videos thanks man.
Wow very inspiring words...thanks for watching!
Absolutely fantastic drumming
Wonderful playing, great skills and the ability to make a drum solo interesting. Musical playing and amazing sounding drums. Inspiring - I must practice more!!!
