- Well the people have spoken and I have heard you. Here’s my best attempt at a NON heartbreak song 🙈
We got to sing John Denver’s “Country Roads” a lot this past year, and it came to my attention that our home front needed its own anthem as well. So here’s to the place I love dearly and will always regard as my home. 🏡💚
(Disclaimer: I wrote this song with banjos and guitars in mind, so a proper arrangement will be coming soon from the Petersens 🪕)
(Disclaimer #2: I don’t know why or how this video was removed so I’m just going to re-post it and see what happens🤞🏻)

“My Ozark Mountain Home”
Lyrics:
[verse 1]
The colorado aspens are blowing in the wind
And the California redwoods grow so high they never bend
When the sun sets over Kansas it may never ever end
But as I watch the sun go down my heart longs to hear once again
[chorus]
The whippoorwill is calling me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whenever I roam
They remind me of where I’ve come from
my Ozark mountain hoooooome
Oooooooooooo
[verse 2]
From the dogwoods in the springtime to the white tail in the fall
The neighbor’s on the front porch just in case I come to call
Mom and dad live down that dirt road oh I’ve missed them most of all
I think it’s time to quit my wandering and go back back where I belong
[chorus]
Oh the whippoorwill is calling me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whenever I roam
They remind me of where I’ve come from
my Ozark mountain hoooooome
[Bridge]
Oh my mind it wanders back to running barefoot in the yard
Grandma yelling “It’s dinner time! Come on!”
hands joined ‘round the table giving thanks with grateful hearts
Then we’d fall asleep while crickets sing their song
Humming right along…
hums
[chorus]
Oh the whippoorwill is calling me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whenever I roam
They remind me of where I’ve come from
They remind me of where I come from
Down the holler where my heart will always run
(To) my Ozark mountain hoooooome
(My home)

*LYRICS - My Ozark Mountain Home*
------------
Well, the Colorado aspens are blowin' in the wind
And the California redwoods grow so high they never bend
When the sun sets over Kansas it may never ever end
But as I watch the sun go down my heart longs to hear once again
The whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam
They remind me of where I've come from
My Ozark mountain hoooooome
My hoooooome
From the dogwoods in the springtime to the white tail in the fall
The neighbor's on the front porch just in case I come to call
Mom and dad live down the dirt road, oh I've missed them most of all
I think it's time to quit wanderin' and go back, back where I belong
The whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam
They remind me of where I've come from
My Ozark mountain hoooooome
My hoooooome
Oh my mind, it wanders back to runnin' barefoot in the yard
And Grandma yellin' "It's dinner time! Come on!"
And hands joined around the table giving thanks with grateful hearts
Then we'd fall asleep while crickets sing their song
Hummin' right along...
Hmmmmmmm
Oh the whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam
They remind me of where I've come from
They remind me of where I've come from
Down the holler where my heart will always run
To my Ozark mountain hoooooome
My hoooooome

@@katiepetersen hi pretty lady. 🤗🤗
Nice. It’s like Duolingo for Ozarkian.
Good to see you Liz. Missed ya. Thanks for the the song info. Hope all is well with you and your family
Katie Peterson has one of the very finest voices in Bluegrass and she writes some great songs too.
This is the kind of thing I would gladly die to protect.
Amen
Long time listener here - how did I miss this one for a whole year? Perfect vocals, vibrant radiant smile, never prettier. Katie didn't just sing and play, she shared her heart and soul. Genius, genuine.
I mean, I can understand why you are so visited and liked by many.....truly an attraction of what is good and missing in many peoples lives.........simplicity and beauty and your faith
Absolutely gorgeous!!! Song Katie wow💋💋💋
Simply, I like this girl. What to add? A beautiful voice, playing musical instruments, a sense of music, its dynamics, and a beautiful little lady... Nice, perfect, beautiful, amazing....
Wow, just wow! So much God given talent in one family. And I am convinced He gave it because He knew they would use it for His glory.
hello.
I am a Japanese living in Japan.
I was very moved by your singing voice.
Thank you very much
Very good Katie! Thanks for sharing My Ozark Mountain Home. Grandma yelling "It's dinner time c'mon." I like that.
How could one human contain this immense amount of talent?? 👏❤
She can do it all.
Katie, I have come to understand that music groups must have both talent and genius to be successful. Everyone in the Petersen Band is talented, but it is in videos such as this one where we encounter the musical genius. You can't hide behind that fiddle forever.
Exactly!!!she has to be persuaded to release an album of her own songs...🙂
You summarized this perfectly. Her song writing is absolute genius. The talent of her and her family is undeniable, but every one of Katie’s original songs are in a class by themselves
This song, this version, this performance, the voice... brilliant.🎹🎻🎶
Beautiful song, Katie. Thanks!
I have stucked in the memory of Katie, singing this song. Here accent is so beatiful here, telling the audiens, that she will clarify that in the song, before singing, and the rubber-band in here hair. It shows everything about here. Shes so lovely as a person.
Katie! You are a STAR!
It's amazing how you can speek right to my heart!
The tenderness of her voice
Never been to the hills of the Ozarks, but this gorgeous song, beautifully rendered, actually makes me long for them. Great job, Katie. Every decent, sensitive, single man with an ounce of sense just fell hopelessly in love with you.
What a amazing voice and such a sweet sweet soul, id give katie a ring for her finger :) hahahhahah
You're as close to what an Angel ought to sound & look as I'll ever see or hear I reckon.
Until recently I didn't even know what the Ozarks were, but now I know they must be the happiest mountains in Gods whole wide world, being loved by so talented a young lady as miss Katie Petersen. :)
Thanks for uploading this, blessed be your continued grace.
Ancient mountains. Weathered by time and filled with memories.
Well, for those of us who are Katie fans, this is very special. It's just Katie: great lyrics and great vocals doin' what they oughta do.
wow!
Fantastic, wow!! Love this song, you are a talented musician and the words are just, wow! Thank you!!
Katie, you have a perfect solo voice; it has power and a real truth to it.
You have been surely blessed.
God be in you for always.
I cannot wait to hear this song with the full arrangement. Shenandoah has been my favorite Petersen song for a long time, this one may take its place.
Shine like a star.
The older I have gotten the more appreciation for the piano. Now probably my favorite.Great job on the Song.🇨🇦
absolutely beautiful song
Voice of an angel.
Just beautiful!
Thanks for the geographical clarification on the hills and mountains stuff. Classic!! … 😂 Seriously, is this lady the next (female) Billy Joel? So good. Thank you Katie.
So beautiful!
😍😍😍
It's wonderful listening to an angel singing, more so with an original song. Beautiful. ❤ 👍
Beautiful song 👍
Thank you❤
Excellent thankyou.
Katie... Your beautiful voice and smile puts me in a state of heavenly peace!!! 🎶 🌷 🎶🌞 🎶🌷🎶
Beautiful... would love to hear this accompanied by the whole band.
Great job Katie! I really like the sound of this. It's cool to see the other musical side of you. Keep it up👍
Katie you’re quite prolific in song writing. I enjoy hearing you sing. Warms my heart of hearts. Thanks bunches...
Magic Katie
Dear Katie you are always happy. I think you have happiness around you and your family. Ciao from Italy. Gianfranco.
Such a beautiful song Katie. The whippoorwill is one of my favorite birds to listen and talk too. Steadily talking back and forth. Keep writing from your heart ❤️.
To The Women In The Petersens Family, Happy International Women's Day. To The Singer/Composer/Pianist, Your Song Is Lyrically & Melodically Great, Just Pure Music.
Katie you sing like an angel it's beautiful thank you sweetheart.
I've grown up all my life in suburban Canada but I've always had a fascination with the Ozarks & their cultures and people. This song's very beautiful and helps me get good mental imagery of what places like those are like. Thanks a lot for brightening my day.
This treasure of a song is destined to be cherished and sung still in 50 plus years’ time. Any of us still around then will feel privileged to say we were among the first to hear it. It celebrates a specific region of the USA, whilst also articulating beautifully the universal human experience of homecoming with fresh eyes, reminiscent of TS Elliot’s, ‘..the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.’ Katie, you’re fast establishing yourself as a considerable song writing talent.
I grew up here in the Ozarks. Lived in Colorado, Louisiana, and have been to most of the contiguous 48. I truly understand that voice calling you back home. Thank you for this, it stirred the inmost depths of my being.
Katie, thank you for re-posting. Your song , singing, and playing are as beautiful as you are. Keep up the good work.
So beautiful thanks!
More than Kings and Queens is here. And yes Katie has a beautifull, beautifull voice.
Catchy tune - lovely sentiments. I would like to hear the family join in with this song. I can already hear the harmony.
. It takes me back to a time in my life when I roamed the Ozarks, hunted coons and fished in the Buffalo River. The call of the whippoorwill was music to my soul then and I miss that. Thank you for that beautiful song Katie.
Katie, please keep singing your songs, whether they be sad or happy, questions or answers, praying or praising, they are the handiwork of your heart and you are a pure artist. You have a pack of people far & wide wishing for you all the best.
When I woke up this morning, I didn't know I would find this video again, with this beautiful song about the Ozark's hills and with your wonderful smile. You made my day, Katie!! Thank you with all my heart! ❤
Love it!!! Bravo !!
You are SO talented!
Brilliant home coming song. The sort of thing you'd play when returning home after living or working away. Strikes a special chord in the same way Run For Home by Lindisfarne (written by the late great Alan Hull) and Home Newcastle by Busker do for us Geordies living away from Newcastle. Looking forward to the Glasgow gig in September.
as a Northeast Oklahoma girl who's people are from southwestern Kentucky this song speaks to me on multiple levels.
Why, why, why? Why do I only have one like to give to a song that's almost impossible to get out of my head.
Thank you for sharing it with us Katie.
Everybody needs.... The Pettersen...
This song is mesmerizingly beautiful.
Simply beautiful Katie! Hope your birthday was special!
It's as beautiful as you, Katie! Wonderful!
That was just lovely, Katie....from a fellow Missourian
Das klingt einfach Wunderschön.
This just might be achin' for a hard rockin' guitar solo right there in the middle...?!
Magical. Great vibe. Love it love it love it!!!!!!!!
I posted this on my FB in February 2017 after driving back home from being stationed in CO:
Safely made it! Driving through MO this morning I had some time to reflect on my last 12 years away from home. I have snorkeled the reefs and slept on the beaches of Okinawa, swam the waters of San Diego, CA, walked through the pine forests of Ga, I have watched the sun peek over the mountains Colorado. I’ve spent more time walking the sands of foreign countries than I care to remember and I have discovered this: nothing beats watching the sun rise on the frosted oak covered hills of Missouri. I am for the first time truly homesick and glad to be back.
Your song brings me back to that moment in my life. Thank you.
I've never seen The Ozarks but your song really calls us to Explore Branson, you're a great ambassador! If these Hills are as beautiful, majestic and warm as in your song, then I believe they can also be called "Mountains"!
It's not so much the hills and woods as it is the people. 😉
It’s a really beautiful place! One of the most amazing places to soak in the scenery from a houseboat! 6 of us did that a really long time ago, 87 or 88. It was a great escape we never repeated.
Fact #1: There's gold in them there hills courtesy of Queen Midas, Katie. Very nice and I'm not depressed. Thanks.
Oh where oh where have the Petersens gone oh where oh where have they've gone , I've searched the tube and the internet but I can't find them yet. I hope they post another video soon so I can get outta this gloom ...,,,,,....😥
They went through a difficult period: someone of them has gotten sick, Julianne's school and a few rainy days that prevented them from making new videos. But there are good news! Yesterday they recorded new videos that will be posted on YT soon. 😉
@@Roberto-pd8vn thanks for the update, I hope all is well now, sounds like it ,, I’m sure they’re a tuff bunch !! 👍🏻
I live in the Ozarks..now for 6 years. We moved from Illinois, I love it here...MO to do! MO Freedoms! I only miss the rich soil in IL. We plan to go see your family in Branson this year! Can't wait!
Anyone else repost a youtube video I'd ignore it and move on, lol! Not yours Katie!!!! Already listen to this half dozen times in the first post and listen to it again! You have no idea that waiting for you to show your original music, hearing you sing and seeing that smile is the reason to hold off and stick around to wake up the next day! TY!
Just moved back from Europe to this area of the US a few weeks ago. Thank you for your consideration and uploading. Great performance.
I love your song. It doesn't describe my home, but the sentamrent does quite well. As an Army Brat for the longest time home was wherever I hung my hat. But HOME, for me, will always be my grandparents ranch in Northeast Washington State.
This is an Ozark Anthem!
Beautiful composition Katie!! Love it!
Very nice song. Congratulation Katie.
This tune of yours should become a classic- there’s more inside you I hope.
Happy composing!
I sure wish I would have been in Branson on Tuesday or Thursday last week so I could have seen you play live. I will plan my next trip over for durning the week.
What a truly wonderful song. Both this version and the one with the band. I believe this is a perfect anthem for one of the most beautiful regions of America.
This lady is so talented !!!!!
Great song. Magical smile
Love this genuine down home song with that nostalgic feel. Really love it. Keep them coming Katie!
I love her on the piano She's amazing ;)
Thanks for reposting, young lady. You have true talent!
What a Song Greetings from germany
Wonderful song beautifully performed by a beautiful person.
WOW, what a voice.
I absolutely LOVE it when people write an anthem/love song for their home! This starts a positive feedback loop where the love in your heart overflows into ours and then it just grows and grows.
I liked that alot .. jolly good carryon pip pips ..😁
brava Katie!!!
I was listening on my phone, but I had to stop because I knew that tiny speaker wasn't doing you justice. So I switched to my computer with the subwoofer... much better! Your voice is amazing as always, and I love the simple piano arrangement. Of course as an audio production specialist, I'm nerding out over the microphone setup! 5-stars.
That song remind me of my 20 years. There was many walks in on our mountain in north Italy, many valley i have visited and many little churches in solitary places, and some american surprised faces. Unfortunately that girl has a fiancee and like a good catholic i do not want to tried to... Every time Katie your talent surprise us and really you carry us in heaven or in Ozark mountain. Thank you from an Italian friend, not a fan. Ciao.
That "beautiful wings in your clear blue heaven" !!! Brava Katie !!!
Reminds me of John Denver, amazing 👏 Lady Kate
