    Say what you want about Kov's personal disintegration after the Ward loses, but after Bob Foster he probably had the hardest jab in the history of the light-heavy division. Growing up in a coal town in post-Soviet Russia, actually killing an opponent in the ring and bouncing back. His life has not been easy, and I think he won that first Ward fight, too. He cracks my all-time top ten at 175 lbs, around Spot # 9.

      @@J3-2344 Kov got hit one genuinely low blow and basically gave up, looking to the ref for intercession (protect yourself at all times). He'd been slacking off in training, drinking, even smoking cigarettes. He was great, but the writing was on the wall at that point. Hopefully he can come back, but I think he's past his prime, and cruiser is filled with guys who, in my opinion, carry the weight there much easier than him. They're bigger and hit harder, too.

    • @kakonis
      @kakonis Před 2 lety +5

      @@oscarq180sx Froch was a very tough fighter, a road warrior always willing to go to the other man's backyard and slug it out, but he's still harboring a delusional grudge against Andre Ward, who outclassed him totally. Part of being a champ is being gracious in defeat. Returning to Kovalev, there are plenty of fighters who don't wilt or act like divas when their opponent low blows them. Instead, they start doing it back (a la Ricky Hatton nut-shotting Kostya Tszyu or Ward doing it to Judah). Lomachenko got low-blowed by Salido far more than Kovalev did, and while I think he got robbed, he didn't just give up or fold. Kov was literally asking Canelo for photos at their weigh-in, too. He showed up for a payday and got ko'd again. I think Bivol will do better against Canelo, even though he's not blessed with Kov's natural power. He has a better mindset and disposition. Kov, like Sonny Liston, needed that aura of fear and invincibility around him. Once he lost, he lost that aura.

    I think Ezzard Charles was the top light heavyweight, knocked out Archie Moore. I think Krusher Kovalev lost his love of the game after the Ward fights, that and the fact he took the Canelo fight so soon after a damaging war at an advanced age didn't help his chances. The history books won't remember these things, but they are apparent to the unbiased observer.

    When interviewers talk to someone with a limited knowledge of English they shouldnt overcomplicate questions but formulate in a simple manner, only then will they get the best answers because its not about how eloquently you sound as an interviewer but about how much you get out of the boxer informationwise.

    Kovalev should try to get a match and beat Ilunga Makabu for the WBC belt. That way he might get lucky and get a potential rematch with canelo down the line since canelo wants a belt at cruiserweight and was in talks of a match with Makabu.
