Numatic Basil Vacuum Cleaner First Look & Motor Removal

- The Easter bunny left me a chocolate rabbit and this 1995 (which makes him around 29 and not 19 years old as stated in the video), Numatic Basil to add to my large family of Numatic vacuum cleaners. Unfortunately Basil sounded a bit rough, so I opened him up to see what the problem could be.

Numatics Basil vacuum cleaner was an economical/budget version of their popular "Henry" series of vacuums.
the bucket on this is NOT original as basil came with the un stabilised one (like on the cream and brown Henry)
the wands WERE colour matched to the main colour and the floor tool was the same type as on the Vax 2000.
production of basil ended in 2007 when he was replaced by the numatic James who's production started the year earlier (2006)
the nematic James featured the same tool kit as basil.
other variants of the Numatic Basil included the larger body type (like the Numatic Bertie and more commercial styles of numatic) though by this time they had done away with the customised tool kit and supplied standard grey aluminium wands and the standard carpet and tool nozzle. for a very VERY brief period of time (like 6-8 months) in selected independent Numatic certified vacuum shops, a Basil turbo was available in the larger body style with an electric power nozzle, these however were very unpopular and were soon discontinued and any remaining unsold units in Numatics possession were renamed "Numatic turbo"

Can see it’s fairly old, I can remember a workplace many moons ago had an Henry it had paper bags , pre hepaflo bags, i remember the poor thing getting neglected and never bag changed until I got my hands on it and cleaned it up , i remember other staff “no idea why it wasn’t picking up” the bag was burst open and dirt stuck in the hose ..
I kept thinking of Basil Brush the entire video and it made me laugh every time.
That's got a slightly newer drum, 95 and early 96 Basils continued to use the older drum without the stabiliser. Also this would've came out the box with blue steel wands.

i've got a red basil without a cord rewind, i just loop it round my thumb and elbow, twist the loop into a figure 8 and pull one of the little loops through the carry handle. did consider putting one of those cartridge extension leads and mounting it upside down on top of it so i could have a diy cord rewind that way, but i've been using it as is for the last 6 years, don't think i'll bother.
The bits on the filter cover are just fixings for the cover, but the bit lower down would have been for a hook, I know older Henry's without cord rewind (HVC200) had a hook.
Imagine Numatic makes Henry shaped easter chocolates.

Would you ever buy a Vacmaster D8 (VZA0708P-01)? It's a Cleav Henry "clone." I'd be curious you think it compares to an actual Henry.

My 2000 watt Uoright vax is 13 years old. Had a lot of heavy use but i always keep the filters clean and reolace with rhe genuine lfilters. If you look after fhings hooefully they last

That’s really a big shame that the new toy Henry and Hetty vacuums by casein don’t have the plug anymore I mean the plug was part of the childhood.
Basil was pleased to be called 19 years old.

Nothing ever needs a new motor. Learn motor repair. What are you going to do when you have a 1920's Hoover 700. Think you can just go around and find a new 100 year old motor that's in the same ruined condition as the one you have? If you don't know how to repair things - vacuum cleaners aren't the hobby for you. You HAVE to know how to do this stuff.

tbh it isn't bad considering how old it is. New vacuums won't be lasting 29 years at all.
@@IWishIDidntExist2333 yeah mate it’s decent just dull happens if it’s been left outdoors or in a damp environment it’s fairly tidy though these motors tend to have their fans explode annoyingly I have one two years newer than this in yellow that’s in near new condition don’t use it though
