- My first video on this side channel! I'll still be prioritizing ModernGurlz but I wanted to create a space where I could sporadically make casual and silly videos that don't necessarily fit with the MG format (reviews/commentaries/restyling/etc). This first video is how I would restyle the main characters from Mean Girls in modern day trends. I looked at this primarily from a costume design perspective but the outfits would work in real life too! How did I do?

Maybe you could also do something with the movie Easy A, especially since corsets are having a major moment in everyday fashion (mainly thanks to tiktok in this case too haha) and because i always felt like the way Emma Stoneâs character styled them was very unrealistic for a 16/17 year old teenage girl

like, in US public school? you'd be kicked out of class for wearing a corset, or sent home if you didn't change. also the teacher-student relationship was gross, & since the film revolved around teenage Emma pretending to be paid for sex... that movie likely wouldn't get funding today lol đ

This was so freaking accurate. It would be great if you restyled Easy A in a 2021 style. Iâd love to see how you would reimagine the characters considering some things that were considered âsluttyâ in 2010 arenât considered that âsluttyâ now. It would also be really interesting to see how you would reimagine characters from high school musical sense they all have kind of defined styles.
This video is the epitome of the âunderstood the assignmentâ meme. You made such a good point that people were doing either their own interpretations of their outfits but just in pink, or dead on recreations, both of which are cool to see, but I loved seeing you pinpoint their actual personalities and mental spaces in creating these outfits for today.
Cady would probably wear more indigenous African accessories and technical clothing at the same time; Karen pastel tie dye; and Gretchen, YSL Loulou heart sunglasses.

@@toxicsugarart2103 Right! I was had high expectations since the songs are đđđż but the fits were very much giving me mid 2010s Iâm sorry. Like you said about Reginaâs full white fit (I swear she had sneaker wedges). Just overall kinda disappointing...
The outfits were not great but thet had some ideas that worked for adapting the styles for 2018 like Janis painting her clothes with acrilics and karen wearing lots of rainbow and holo like a little girl that loves unicorns
I love this way of restyling characters. I can't tell you how many Disney Princess "modern outfits" I've seen that turn ballgowns into shorts and a tshirt and practical workwear into trendy, barely-there fashion pieces. Same goes for taking modesty and financial means into account! Actually I'd really love to see you restyle Disney princesses in 2021 with this method!

I would've liked to hear more about their jewelry choices - especially what Gretchen would wear instead of her Tiffany's toggle necklace/bracelet - but this was so much fun to watch!
I think Gretchen would wear the Pandora (snake chain) bracelet, as itâs the modern equivalent to the Tiffany toggle. I think she would also wear either the double cc Chanel, Vivienne Westwood orb (callback to her British inspired look) of a nameplate necklace - to copy Reginaâs âRâ.

Tbh you can just keep wearing high rise jeans. It's not like they're gonna stop selling them (at least not right away). And if you wear long shirts/jackets, no one will really know if you're wearing high rise or low rise jeans if you're concerned about people calling you "old fashioned".

I Agree with the tik tok restyling being mostly bad or basic but it was cool to see people with unique styles interpretations of the characters for example I saw goth mean girls, punk rock mean girls, street wear mean girls etc

This was so thoughtful and interesting! And the idea of putting Regina in a leather pants in the beginning of the movie makes a great contrast to the part when she can only wear sweats pants. Also, it was really exciting to see your face!

After rewatching this, I feel like Karen would have the least polished look of the girls. To me she would probably have Lisa Frank inspired outfits, and outfits were that look like they would be from Justice. I also see her becoming friends with Damian because I feel like they would have similar interests

Love this! When styling plus size characters, I would love to see the plus size clothes that you find for them, instead of just straight sizes. And using plus size people as inspiration, not just for plus size characters (but especially then)

I think Mean Girls on Broadway is an excellent model of what the girls would wear today. Namely, the all white outfits that they put Regina in a lot. It is definitely that "angelic" aesthetic that Regina is trying to pretend to have.
But I'm fully with you on the leather pants. She would totally hang the fact that only she can look good in them over the other girls' heads (mainly Gretchen).

I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DO A VIDEO ON THIS and for that someone to be YOU makes it 10x better đ€© Donât get me wrong, the tiktok âMean Girlsâ outfits arenât bad or ugly but I do agree with you that a lot of peopleâs idea of recreating the Mean Girls costume design is very âletâs just throw on a ton of pink!â Which isnât very realistic. I always watch your Moderngurlz videos (with three emojis at the end of the title of course đ) and I especially love the style analysis ones, because they never fail to point out small details about the character development or timeline. After watching the Mean Girls video, I am very excited to see how you view the charactersâ individual styles through a more modern lens. I think you did an AMAZING job! Personally I think Regina would have a feminine but more edgy fashion (like corsets, leather, pants, platforms), I think Karen would wear cutesy babyish clothes (like cute baby tees, lots of unique shoes, sparkles/sequins, pastels, bows, etc.), I think Gretchen would wear some old money/preppy (Actual preppy not the 2024 tiktok preppy) and coquette fashion (tweed, argyle, headbands, plaid, sweatervest, houndstooth, etc.), and I feel like Cady would wear some Lululemon/brandy. I also think janis would make a lot of her outfits or thrift them (rips/holes/distressed clothes, docs, churches clothing, lots of painted clothes and patchwork)
I really like these outfits, they make so much sense, and suit the characters perfectly! I would love to see these actually recreated

I feel like Cady would actually get a Kanken because itâs sustainable and fjallraven is a sports and exploration brand, so her parents would be familiar with it. They also have an âexoticâ line with light fabrics for warm places like Africa. And as someone who has one of those for school myself, they carry books really well đâïž
