- Hi everyone! I'm Holly! In this video, I'm making soap just for us at home. I'm also doing a little bit of testing while I'm at it!

(This is not the recipe used in the video but is one that I love.)
30% Lye Concentration
6% Super Fat
40% Olive Oil
20% Coconut Oil
10% Palm Oil (I look for Palm that is certified by Palm Done Right)
10% Rice Bran Oil
10% Castor Oil
10% Cocoa Butter
1tsp ppo* Sodium Lactate
*Per Pound of Oil
I soap at room temperature - which means the oils and the lye solution are in the 65-75 degree range.

YASSSSS... Holly video! I hope Riggs is better! đđđ¶... I use milk powders, i.e. goats, coconut, buttermilk alot more lately over liquid in soap I make for us here at home... i love it... especially on a shoe string budget
That's great! Thank you Kim! I am finding it harder and harder to get a hold of fresh goat milk and buttermilk so it might have to be the ticket for a while.
Love that divided pour....it's really nice. I only use powders (Buttermilk and Coconut) in my soaps and haven't had any problems.

Here in the SW West Australia it's hot 36.5 C so it's lovely to see your snow... made me feel cooler for a bit. It last snowed here was in the 1960s and that was all gone by noon. The soap looked so pretty. Its really great your friend is improving may it continue cheers
Oh wow! I can only imagine. We don't normally get much snow here but we do get chilly in the winter. We've had a better than average year for snow.

We got snow here in Central Texas this month too! My labrador loves playing in the snow.. he's seen it twice now đ. On that note, y'all are in my prayers with your pup. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to my dog... other than the random snake bite and such..but to not know what's wrong.. my anxiety meds wouldn't be able to hold back the inevitable attacks. Heck, I get overly anxious when I have to go to dr's appointments for any length of time and have to leave my pup with my mom who has dementia. She wouldn't intentionally hurt him, but she won't would forget that she let him out to take care of business, or feed him food from her plate. Even though we have our children, our pets become our family..and we love them just as much, sometimes, as our children. đđ
It has been crazy to see Texas getting snow when we weren't. Haha! But we've had a good year for snow. It never sticks past overnight but it's been fun to watch it at least. It would be especially hard to be with your dog. I know how much he helps you. Riggs has had another set back so he's not doing well but we're surviving so far.
So glad the dog is on the mend! Lots of warm thoughts for a much better 2021!!

I love this soap! I love the milk powders. I actually put them in my base oils dry and stick blend before I add my lye. Works perfectly no spots. GREAT JOB!!!!

Living up in Seattle, can confirm we lost power last week for a day. Honestly, it was nice. I needed the extra day off from work with how stressful it has been lately...

So glad youâre fur baby had a good weekend. I love those colours so pretty in the soap I havenât made soap for a very long time we are moving in the next few months so Iâll wait till then and get back into it again Iâve run out for ourselves though so Iâll have to make a batch for us lol. Hope your pooch baby continues to be ok thanks for sharing with us and yes this year has been topsy turvy as well for us my husband always says no good worrying itâll still turn out the way itâs going to and heâs right but I still worry lol. Hi Holly, I also uses buttermilk, coconut milk, goat milk powder in my soap batches. I make 4 batches of 3pd loaf soap. Every few months so I don't buy liquid milk for that reason.
Yes, you sure do purple with pink every new year which I really love itđđ.
I hope to dog is doing great now.
With this whole COVID business, it has been harder to get liquid milks. I am glad that the powders will be an option if need be. Riggs is still up and down and quite lame but we're hoping he'll heal eventually.

@@moriversoap well I give her her dry dog food and I add some pumpkin to it. Just a little because it help their bellies and their digestive tracks due to the medication and she loves it so I donât have to feed her the soft food. Just a spoon full and mix it around. I get the canned pumpkin. The pet stores sell it or you can just get it from the grocery store. The things we do for our fur babies! Lolâ

OH MY GOODNESS! That's so true. How fun. My most significant memory was getting to buy candy at church camp every day at about 3pm. I always got nerds and it was the highlight of my day. I drowned my sorrows in sugar. LOL

Hi Holly! How long do you force gel for? I love how vibrant your colors turn out.
Thank you Shannon! I usually don't mess with my soaps for 24 hours. I try to leave them in the mold for 48 hours. This helps to prevent ash for my soaps.
how would you fix the ricing, would it harm the skin? ty
For ricing, usually it's just a matter of blending it longer to reincorporate it. That can accelerate the batch but the ricing usually works out nicely.

hello, I see a lot off your beautiful soap on this channel, and can i ask a question? I made my first to soaps with ley. I follow the recepies exactly, first time to hot oil and leywater, (thow accact same temperature), now I let the oil cool down, till 40c celcius, 3 more then body temp, and the ley water 48c celcius. But when i start blending, all the air bubbels out, i becomes real thick and i can't even poor it decent, i have to use a spoon to get it in the mold. I have no clue, what im doing wrong, after 24 hours its a real nice soap bar, but I want to have more time, not 30 sec, to use some collars... hopefully i can get some tips, because i have seen loads off tubes now, and i'm really enjoying the proces, but i can't pour!! greatings from the netherlands!
40-48 Celsius may still be quite warm. I soap about 18-20 Celsius. You can also look at the percentage of hard oils to soft oils. Perhaps increase the olive oil/liquid oil in your batch (don't forget to use the lye calculator) and see if that helps at all. My other thought is the water percentage. How much water are you using? You may need more water in your batch. Finally, is the lye you are using pure? You'll want a really good quality lye for soapmaking.

I use zeep.vanderleden.com/calculator/ as calculator and the percentages are almost the same as in the recepies I see, But nobody talks about the temp. Ill try to cool it down more. i thought it was maby a real small air bubble, or is that not possible?

Haha! I usually get started on computer work around 8am, work upstairs during the main part of the day, and often sit back down and work on more computer based work until 8pm or so.
I do take Saturday off but Sunday's I edit videos.

Iâm so sorry about your puppy. What is wrong with him or her. I know that itâs a hard thing to deal with your fury baby. I hope whatever is wrong with it that it isnât long lasting and that it can be over soon.
Thank you Lori! It's been one thing after another. He started with some cysts between his toes and that caused him to limp. The limp caused him to run awkwardly and he fell in a mole hole and hurt his leg. The leg issue caused a UTI because he was having a hard time holding himself up. From there he got a splint and some steroid shots. He then had a dangerous reaction to the steroids and we thought he was going to die. He spent 3 days at the vet and no one could figure out what was wrong with him. Then an orthopedic vet said he had nerve damage and needed two weeks in the new splint. Less than a week into the splint, he started bleeding through the splint. The outside layer of all of his toe beans had fallen off! So now he can't be splinted and we have to do first aid on his foot. He's in bad pain and he's just not getting better.
