I worked for 30 years without a break before getting made redundant. The way in which I got treated on my first visit to the JobCentre was frankly despicable. The neanderthal security guard laughing at us as we waited outside in a torrential downpour because it was still 3 minutes before opening time set the scene, and basically it all went downhill from there......

i worked in employment for over 40 years, always paid in to the system every penny they wanted or demanded taken from the salaries at source, no problems...the system was good you see, until a time came that it was not possible to continue working any longer and then you suddenly find that the system is not good as you were told all those years, and that as soon as you are not able to pay anything in to it you then become surplus to requirements and no longer worth anything to the system and become a burden and hense treated as such and like dirt on their shoes.

Just a heads up PPTP - a FOI Request is for access to data that isn’t about you. For copies of your data, it’s called a Data Subject Access Request or DSAR. A DSAR, according the rules, can be made verbally or in writing, and to any member of staff (in this case, it would need to be a DWP employee, rather than G4S, although you could make a second request for the G4S body camera footage). If you set up a gmail account for this, all you have to do is hand them a card with that email on it, and tell them you’re making a subject access request for a copy of the photo. No forms filled in, no hoops to jump through. They then have to respond ‘with no undue delay, and certainly no later than 30 days’. Often, these organisations will demand loads of ID documents, but that’s against the rules too. The only ID they can ask for is limited to what they already hold, so in this case you could point them to this video with the date and time it was taken, and that’s enough. If they refuse to provide it without the ID, it’s a breach, as it would be if they don’t provide it within the time limit. Article 82 provides for compensation when organisations breach your rights, and that can be for ‘pecuniary’ damages (any losses you may have incurred), as well as ‘non pecuniary’ damages, which covers the effort and hassle you have to go through to have your rights upheld. The going rate per breach, according to recent cases, is £250 a time!

The lovely lady who interviewed me pointed out I could apply for something called 'Pension Credit Guarantee ' as I was just at the threshold age to apply ( it's now changed ) . She helped me sort out the forms and I was awarded this benefit which was a small weekly payment , free council tax , free dental care and glasses till I reached State Pension age . They were brilliant and so helpful . I didn't have to keep 'signing on ' or actively be looking for work . And as my savings decreased , the weekly payments increased as they were made in ratio to personal savings . Massive help to me they were !

All they would need do, in regard to computer screens, is put a polarising filter over the windows, you could still see in, they could still see out - and let the daylight in (reducing lighting costs - and generally make it a nicer working environment), but the polarising filter on the window when oriented at 90° to the computer screen's built in polarising filter (all modern [post CRT] computer screens have them) will mean to someone outside the window the screen will appear jet black. It's a simple cheap approach which works incredibly well, surprised it's not more commonly used.
