Hey guys! Back with another Borderlands countdown video and today, I wanted to go over 10 of what I think are among some of the best Shotguns in Borderlands History. As always with these types of videos, i'm trying to balance some of these picks, otherwise it might be exclusively hyperion shotgun variants from Borderlands 2 with a few Jakobs and Torgue shotguns sprinkled throughout.

The Conference Call, The Swordsplosion, and The Butcher belong on the list of best shotguns.
Moff Tarkin he didn't include those as he has to spread the games the guns came from, if not I'm sure the swordplosion and conference call would've taken spots 2 and 3. But I agree I expected conference pre-patch to be on the list.

I'm ok with the swordsplosion not being here although I LOVE that gun. The CC is a must and the Butcher is a beast. I'mglad to see some BL1 guns on here. The Hammer was a monster if you got the right parts.
I swear, if one of the new Vault Hunters in Borderlands 3 is a Shotgun User, and some of these great weapons are ported to that game, some fun's gonna be had.

The Conference Call's nowhere near as good as it used to be after the Bee shield got nerfed.
23r0 I am still frustrated with this nerf to this day we are playing a game that the whole point is to collect loot and become more powerful and IMO deserve to acquire weapons and gear that push that whole OP premise if you have ground out the game.

It needed to happen tbh. The Conference Call+Bee Shield combo was so OP that it made Grog Herald Moneyshot Salvador look balanced by comparison (bear in mind that it could kill Terramorphus in FOUR SECONDS). There was no incentive to use any other gear combo either because it was just as OP no matter WHAT your build was - you could've spent NO skill points and it wouldn't have made a difference!
I think the Sledge Shotgun should be on the list... once you get it on the first playtrough is hard to find a new one, because his damage is so friggin high... on my first playtrough ever on BL1 I only found a shotgun that outmatches it at the General Knoxx DLC...

The bl2 version is not bad either dude but only a shadow of the damage it has in bl1. But you're right in bl1 it is proper kick ass.
There is a Jakobs green rarity shotgun called terrible shotgun (this variant has 2 ammo on mag and insanely high dmg like 200x9 on lvl 20).It destroys everything on it's way.

I was a bit surprised that the Interfacer was there instead of the Conference Call, I also find your shotgun options from Borderlands 1 interesting as I've been playing a lot of it recently and I haven't found the Hammer or the Bulldog to be a super good weapon, I usually end up using the S&S Crux and the Maliwan Pestilence(misnamed Crux) and those two are just absolutely amazing.
If you play as Brick or Roland you can get alot out of the bulldog and hammer for example an explosive 20 shot rocket launcher like shotgun with great fire rate pairs really well with a 90% max increase to damage and fire rate with bricks kill skills. Roland can have about 50 bullets in one bulldog which makes a really fun weapon to use in every element especially corrosive. The hammer does alot of damage great spread size and the damage increases with classes can be very high. Anything with good damage high fire rate and multiple pellets is useful for any character. Masher revolvers, carnage or not bulldogs, penetrator, Orion, and of course double anarchy (torgue highest damage, Dahl for allegiance, and tedious for best reload speed).
Cool video dude, loving it. Yeah still like the butcher, heartbreaker and the conference call, but call me a schmuck if you want but for a laugh I still like sledges shotgun from bl1.
Absolutly, that thing was insane. The two round burst and insane knock back, all paired with it being a guaranteed drop made that shotgun my favourite. It's only downside was that the two round burst used up all of its mag, and it's sub-par reload speed

Put a sledges shotgun with the right heavy gunner soldier and you got a five ammo sledges shotgun with high fire rate. Absolute melter right there
No your spot-on. I loved my Sledge like a baby I only stopped using it when I got my Hammer.

I'd rather have sound from the gameplay like you did before instead of using music. It really doesn't fit.

Gotta say, I love the Striker from bl2. Using that with zero, with all those precision crits, was such a blast. It could work pretty well too with axton maybe, he has some skills for quicker reloads if I'm remembering correctly.
I don't think Puma is expressing how insane the twister is on Gaige. Let me explain. Slayer of Terra + 600 anarchy stacks + close enough + n'th degree + wires don't talk + twister = shock twister as wide as 2 Ellies and half the height of Gaige that home in on everything and anything

It was essentially a hellfire but a shotgun with corrosion! I would say just as good as blast hammer!
Roland had awesome shotgun skills in BL1, if they were maxed he was unstoppable with a shotgun.
This is pretty cool i keep watching your videos helps a lot with my somewhat strategic game play I'm making a Salvador shotgun build I never saw anyone with such a build so I'm trying something different anyways keep up the good work
Gotta love the heartbreaker. It can even handle ironclad and loaders due to its high crit damage. Although I play with the community patch so idk if it isn’t as good in Bl2 stock.

While it shouldn’t be in the top ten, the terrible matador from bl1 used by brick is one if not the best shotgun setup in the entire game because of how much fuckin’ damage that gun does if you have the right parts. Brick can one shot badasses with this thing and it’s amazing

Love your videos, Puma, got a question for you. Do you think your preference towards high fire rate weapons knocks out guns that would otherwise be effective in terms of it damage output:ammo consumptipns? For instance, you gave the striker a lower ranking due to it fire rate, but neglected how fantastic it is at dispatching mobs at medium range due to it ability to one-shot most of them.
Honestly I can totally understand why he didnt include the CC, Swordsplosion or Butcher is because we all know these are great shotguns, it would be pretty boring if he included predictable shotguns.
And people PLEASE stop saying the CC was nerfed. It was not, however how it works(or any shotgun) with The Bee or any Amp shield WAS nerfed. (Instead of amp damage applying to each pellet, the amp damage is now divided to each pellet)

A great thing about the Omen is that with gaige the middle pellet will always go straight
I’ve been using my Jolly Roger for the past 7+ levels, it’s a great gun for how easy it is to get and I know I’ll be using it for a few more levels at least

I found that the Crux does the Hammer (and the Bulldog) three better. When you want to dump 20 rounds of high explosive buckshot into someone in less than 5 seconds, go with the Crux over either of them. It has more explosive and raw damage potential, along with a fixed pattern that makes more sense than the Hammer (while the Bulldog has a spread about the size of a small UFO... when reset, that is). If you want critical hits, you should be using it like its intended purpose: barrel in front of the enemy’s face. If I had to replace the Bulldog (because almost all shotguns in BL1 are better than it in some way), I’d have to choose the Plague, aka the corrosive Cruz that has a bugged name. High elemental damage makes quick work of the most likely thing you’ll be fighting: Crimson Lance.
Oh, also, Roland is the best one for shotguns, as his Commando class mod boosts fire rate, damage/ammo regen, and the Scattershot skill, making almost every shotgun an absolute blast to use. Except the Bulldog. Bulldog has nothing going for it.
Cmon Puma, I know you have to narrow the list to 10 weapons but you've could have made some honourable mentions. In the case of this video the honourable mentions should be the Conference Call, the Borderlands 2 Butcher, the Swordsplosion, the Slowhand, Company Man & others.
I don’t remember the shotgun but I had this one that had a massive rate of fire and magazine to go with it, had electric element. Basically it was shotgun that fired as fast as a machine gun. It melted enemies. I honestly stopped using other weapons because of it. Absolutely love Borderlands
The butcher? ( I know it was years ago but I like to watch past videos)
I think the Octo should get an honorable mention here, as, for its ammo consumption, it has a high projectile count and does a decent amount of damage (whereas a lot of Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel's better shotguns tend to consume multiple rounds per shot). I find that it's most effective on Gaige, but a properly-specced Axton or Krieg build can get good use out of it too - for the Pre-Sequel I recommend running it on Claptrap.
i love the slow hand with axton tho, with a vladof shield and grenadier mod is awesome
The Hyperion shotgun you get in the pre sequel from purchasing tales from the borderlands is absolutely fantastic and I'm so sad that I got it at level 35 because you can't ever get it again :(

Super controversial opinion: I like the conference call better than the Interfacer. I've used both and always find myself switching back to a Conference Call after using the Interfacer for a while. (Not that it matters much but the CC also looks way cooler.)
He is doing best shotguns currently in the games. The pre patched CC is not in the game anymore. Although, I am surprised it still didn't make the list. The CC is still really good and don't bring up the bee. I don't use that stupid shield, it is OP as fuck
As far as the flayer and the jollyrodger, does it really make sense to get the 2 extra projectiles on high projectile count guns when the 50% crit accesory exists?
I believe the butcher should be put on this list considering you conserve ammo and it comes in all elements and dual welding 2 of them with Salvador is absolutely phenomenal
The Swordsplosion, for obvious reasons.
The Miss Moxxi Heart Breaker, it does great damage, it has a good rate of fire and magazine size, it only uses one bullet per shot, it's a hyperion shotgun, so it's accurate as fuck, and as a miss moxxi weapon it heals you as you deal damage, literally the only downside is that it only comes in fire elemental damage.

You have a list of just borderlands 1 shotguns? This is my mom's favorite game and I've been replaying it with her for bonding time and like trying to outfit her with the best I can find.
Edit: If you've any suggestions, she doesn't like Scopes on shotguns, so if there are preferably some great ones without a scope, that would be preferred.
Huh, never knew how I got the twister. It was total accident. I was actually just beating the dlc with Axton for the Clever Boy head because it's Axton's best and coolest head and I totally accidentally got the Twister.

#9 - "Hunter's Striker" - 'But I thought VPG hated it?' *Sees 'Borderlands 1 Only' bit* . How nice, really rubbing it in at this point, I think. I'm an advocate of the Striker in BL2. It seems a more common drop than some other random legendary drops, and though the mag size is small, the reload speed is pretty good, and the damage and accuracy are also good for a shottie.
The Blockhead, easy. It's my favorite gun in all the games, and it's so sad that no one ever seem to use it. In a flesh map is shreds pretty much everything to pieces, and that up front and personal playstyle is so fun :D

Of course there are several i would have put in the list.But the one kinda surprise one for me was the company man from the pre sequel.
You can just buy the Interfacer from the Seraph Vendor in Hunter's Grotto. Unless I misunderstand the vendors in Borderlands 2, I just farmed Pete and went the Hunter's Grotto and bought one.

Semi-automatic shotguns in Borderlands 1 are a madhouse - Practically anything in front of me dissolves before my eyes
Sorry for the noob question but what is that purple grenade I see in most BL2 gameplay videos? Where can one obtain it?
Crux, conference call, bullpup, butcher, swordsplosion, company man, slow hand? I personally thought that a lot of these shotguns could've made the list over weapons like the flakker.
I felt that the flakker only really made it because of the glitch, sure it isn't horrible but I find it's outclassed by even weapons like the ravager without using a torgue launcher.

What about the S&S Spiked Death in BL1? For maximum fun, use it on Mordy with a Ranger class mod (5-line purple model 660 built from material2 so it buffs crit bonus) and maxed-out Lethal Strike to make full use of the spike. Death shotguns in BL1 have an unlisted crit bonus. Brute shotguns are also excellent. The best ones are made by S&S and Hyperion.

5:24 Elemental Carnage guns always proc per sh0t regardless of elemental rating. They're exceedingly rare.
6:39 Two weapons types that Bandit does right are shotguns and rocket launchers. Their SMGs can be good too. And also the Ratatater machine pistol (w/Vlad barrel).
11:47 Technically, a break-open breach-loading shotgun doesn't have a magazine.
13:34 S&S shotguns hold nine rounds as a bare minimum.

I have a strange love-hate relationship with the Flakker. I love the concept of the gun, but ironically I find it easier to hit ground targets with it, and airborne targets are easier to hit with other Hyperion and even Bandit shotguns.
It does deal a ton of damage (provided it actually hits at least half of the pellets) and adds an interesting spin on shotguns.
Cloud Duster It's a gun that rolls the dice on how well it performs with each shot. A RNG gun in an RNG game has a satisfying symmetry.
Chris the Flakker God You have a valid point. It is after-all very satisfying when I get that perfect shot.
I remember when I first encountered the Flakker. I was immediately disgusted with it and sold it. After I decided to give it another shot, I farmed a Desperate Flakker. I quite like it now, and it can be good once you get the hang of it. My only critique is the accuracy. If the flak spread was tightened a little bit, even just 20% or so, it would be my most favorite gun in Borderlands 2, especially among shotguns.
Cloud Duster I had a similar experience the first time using it, it's definitely not the most user-friendly gun in the game. That being said, with a little practice, you can mitigate most of its flaws.
I'm toying with changing it's projectile speed on PC to see if it compresses the flak to a more manageable size, but even with pinpoint accuracy, it doesn't affect the secondary pellet effects.
Chris the Flakker God I see. The only other slight problem I have is the extremely low fire rate and high ammo consumption. Though it isn’t much of a problem given that the damage output is adequate. I will say that a Jacobs Quad is better in terms of pellet placement, and by extension damage output.
Cloud Duster Agreed on fire rate. I'll usually double shot it from time to time if I think I need more damage. You'd be shocked to discover I don't have many "bad" guns I'm opinionated on.
Outside of the Chulaain, Landscaper and a couple other undeniably bad weapons, I like them all. Even the Bearcat on Krieg.

Hammer shotgun is so broken , with the cobra sniper rifle , the ogre ( explosive weapon on borderlands 1 is the best " élément " )
I love my Hammer... use it everywhere. I found it a level or two after I got Sledges shotgun. Sorry Sledge.
Remember the Conference Call + Bee before the nerf? Man.. guess that's why I still have a soft spot for the CC.

JustANormalGam3r he was trying to get a fair amount of guns from all games. The Torguemota (don’t know how to spell it off the top of my head) is a good gun, myself I wouldn’t have put it in the top ten. I agree the Conference call is an amazing weapon, but getting more guns from every game would be more of a priority.

I just beat ultimate on my mecromancer. So I did all the dlc after I got to level 61. Then I killed the invincible stalker (I don't know how to spell it's name.) 4 times and got the interfacer and the Hawkeye. So he's the hardest boss? But I've never beat the dragons.

Zack Cyrus to be honest the self inflicted damage isnt that bad. Melee krieg benefits as it destroids his roid, allowing rpid damage. Zero with 2 fang can shoot fast enough to where he doesent get damage from every shot. Nurse maya can make use of it to heal herself and others. Gaige can make exellent use of of itwith anarchy and bloodsoak shield. Sal left hand completley ignores it.

In reguards to the two gang, i saw man of low moral fibers video how he invested in two fang and showed how when he shot it sometimes he didnt get damaged :)
the conference call has synergy with every character what is wrong with you its so good
I actually really enjoy the Teeth of Terra. Against Terra himself or the son of crawmerax it's pretty powerful
