- This video highlights what we believe to be the first legal size swordfish caught on a slow pitch jig. Zack and his friends Matt, Steve, Dave, and Mike left out of Ft. Lauderdale Florida looking for Mahi, when Zack decided to drop a jig in 900’. The rest is history. Johnny sits down with Zack and walks through all the slow pitch gear used and digs into the complete detailed story of how this incredible swordfish was landed on the jig. Offshore fishing for swordfish during the day using traditional gear is a complete science, that takes skill and a bit of luck. We at Johnny Jigs are completely intrigued by the idea that you can land these monsters on slow pitch gear and not to mention the fact that they will eat the jig…………………To Be continued

the one drop 220g has caught loads of big bottom fish for me this year and just got a 320g for up coming tuna trip, turned into a trusted go to jig fast
we have a strong el nino here in california, theres not a lot of swords on the surface this year, maby its time to try jigging one up while deep drop drifting for them! would be epic. Congrats!

Caught a huge sailfish (90kg) on a slow jig 2 weeks ago in Mauritius. Using a mustad slow bouncer SJ rod and a saltiga LD 40 reel. Also 20 lbs braid 👍👍

What’s your favorite jig you’ve made
I lost something decent a couple weeks ago on a double uni because my knot gave out! It didn’t put up a big fight but it was pretty heavy! I was using a @johnnyjigs 200g Torpedo I got from fisherman’s landing in San Diego! Sucked to lose the fish and the jig! 😢

Jyg caught a juvenile sword. Mike from FSF also has caught a juvenile sword prior to jyg. The significance of this is that the sword is legal size, and the crew was able to land it.
