Smoke the bluefish. The other way I make it is fish packs on the grill. I cut off all the red and slather it with mayo and put that side down in the pack. I then salt:pepper add veggies to the pack, few lemon slices and seal the tinfoil pack and throw it on the grill. As long as the fish is fresh, well trimmed and properly bled it is actually pretty good.

Exactly! Grew up eating it that way. If you can't grill it you can broil it. If it's fresh it's awesome.

Grew up in NJ. Caught soo many bluefish, I hope to never see one again unless I need bait.
15lbs is A BIG bluefish anywhere. 25 lbs very rare and world record is (or was when I last checked) just over 30lbs. I have seen only a couple in 20s. My biggest was 17 I believe.
I Imagine you guys lost a few jigs that trip 😉

The only way I've found to make Blue fish palatable is to trim anything red out of the fish, then onto aluminum foil smothered in Italian dressing and slow cook on the grill. Otherwise blue fish are extremely fishy tasting.
Fun fact, at least for fishing in the Chesapeake Bay. When trolling for striped bass, aka Rockfish to locals, Blue fish travel the same currents as Rockfish, but higher in the water column. If fishing using a planers, and you're using a #3 or #4 planer, select one size heavier and you'll be on Rockfish instead of Blue fish.
Bluefish IMO at like Bonita, they make good bait, but I'll pass on eating them.

Fish north east (NJ NY Long island) all the time. Agree w comment above. 20lbs blue is quite rare, never seen 30… 15 is already a “gator”. Smaller ones “cocktail blues” are better to eat. Smoking probably is best of all.

The 10-15-pound bluefish in the Florida waters is once in 20-year event.
I haven't seen traditional slow-pitch fishing from this channel.
How about a show dedicated to the art?
Answer the question, Is it productive in Florida?
The episode may lead to a whole new line of Johnny Jigs...
