      Treat it the Same way, Test if the pain increases after many Hard jumps. If so you likely have tendonitis. Next step would be to remove every Sports activity wich triggers your pain and find an isometric exercise wich have an analgesic effect.
      Combine this with Heavy Slow resisted training Like standing calf Raises on the smith machine

    When i had patellar tendinitis, my ortho recommended more hamstring exercises to balance the strength of my quads... no more knee issues. So it may be case by case and maybe not a general rule?

      I've never had patellar tendonitis so feel free to ignore me, but I think you're right that this guy's advice depends on a case by case basis. Your case is different from this kid because you're not this kid, and I have to assume that different things like age, injury history, etc. will change your plan from his, hence the reason your doctor recommended more hamstring exercises than for this kid.

      @Ryalnotch Pƙed rokem +47

      Its complicated, if its a long term issue its likely no longer inflamed, as is often seen with tendonosis. So there is not really an acute inflammation to address. Without addressing the underlying issue in these cases the symptoms will just reappear shortly after you resume your sport. Strength training is usually necessary, and if you can train around the pain in a way with minimal discomfort and long term decreases in pain, then you’re likely on the right track.
      Too much rest and you risk weakening the tissue and surrounding muscle, stiffening of the tendon, misalignment of the collagen fibres etc. you can rest yourself worse.
      If your overall symptoms are getting better then short term pain is okay.

      Unless you have regular updates with your physical therapists, it’s possible that you’ve reached the limit of what the physical therapy,as it is now, can offer. If possible add weights, or change exercises for more challenge. You don’t want your sport to be where your knee is put to its limit, because the sport is unpredictable, you want to be able to do more than what is expected in your sport, but in a controlled exercise.
