- In this woodturning video, I turn a natural edge vessel from a piece of Birch Burl. I didn't expect the piece to end up like it did, it was way more interesting than I thought it would be, I unfortunately had to lose the bark as there were some chunks missing which resulted in a lot more sanding.. I finished it with Danish oil..

Anyone else would have either used a lot of resin or had multiple pieces of wood lying on their shop floor. But your skill and a little bravery made the risk pay off. That is a beautiful piece that celebrates the Birch wood. 👏👏

I don't think it's any the worse for losing the bark - quite the contrary. The beauty of the underlying wood is all it needs, more textures would have complicated it.
