Well, there are people thinking, whether they should spend 290€ or 670€ on a wetsuit. And there's me, questioning whether I can afford the decathlon one for 94€...
I’ve got the Athlex Float myself. I’m very much an amateur and have a goal to do a 70.3. Swimming is the area that I struggle with the most. Feeling the difference between wearing some Jammers in the pool vs wearing the suit in the open water is huge. No shame in having that extra help. Last thing you want is to have to be dragged out of the open water because your pride got in the way of what you need vs what you want.
Wonderful job! I think Orca makes fantastic gear but my budget guides me into the Xterra brand. They have a nice line as well thats very affordable. Maybe a video about them? Wheres my Heather? I miss her!❤
I wanted the Apex Flow, but budget told me otherwise. Then I saw a video comparing Apex Float/Flow/Flex for a Triathlete without swimming background and they were fastest in the float. So I ended up with an Athlex Float and having done my first olympic distance with it: Its great, the added buoyancy helps so much with my not so great technique and improved my swimming time by close to 5 minutes.
Really good video. Having recently returned to triathlon racing (after a 5 year lay-off) I have two wetsuits to chose from. One of these is a Huub 3.5 and the other a much cheaper Orca TRN. In my first two races back, I've opted to use the Orca because it felt a tad more comfortable than the Huub and I also felt it would be easier to get off in transition. But after two races in it, I swear I swim better in the Orca. I'll probably return to the Huub as I start climbing back up the distances but for now, the bargain-basement Orca is perfect.
I had a second tier 3-5-4 wetsuit with sleeves, then I tried my friends sleeveless, and it was lower quality but way more buoyant for me. He got a new one I bought it off him and sold my supposedly better one on.
The wetsuit that made me faster was going sleeveless, the shoulder restriction was hindering my stroke! It's not great when you swim under 67 degrees, 😅, but I'm in the water for less time!!
I wonder how much difference there is between a full suit and sleeveless. I have a full wetsuit and really didn't like the restrictions. Changed to a swim skin and seemed much more comfortable and faster. Hmm...
Wow I been surprised even I knew about this since many years. My daughter was a very good swimmer, under 1:00 at 100m 26 s at 50 m. She was really good with her legs, so she actually needed to cut the wetsuit to not let her legs come up so high. But I did not know that the difference was so much in time and even you swim so short. // Marie-Louise
I've been watching your channel for a few years and really enjoy the content you create. I was hoping you could give me some advice. I'm a hobby runner and cyclist looking to try my first triathlon this August. However, I've never done swimming as a workout before. My experience includes breaststroke, scuba diving, and various watersports, but I've never done freestyle (front crawl). 🙈 1) Is breaststroke too slow for a triathlon? I expect to be one of the last out of the water 2) If breaststroke is acceptable, I would need a wetsuit. Which one would you recommend for breaststroke in a triathlon? 😅 I'm planning to join the Oslo Triathlon. Thank you!
Based on the lack of real difference in the better swimmer so if in doubt get the extra buoyancy one then? Is there anywhere you can demo multiple suits in the water?
400m test loop seems a bit short for a good test, a slightly better run could make a massive percentage difference. Best way to do it would be a 1k loop and test over 2 days
@andrewmcalister3462 actually quite the opposite a 1:30 difference is so large that it seems highly unlikely this was just due to the wetsuit. Doing it over a longer distance means that as there is a longer time in the water it is more likely to average out at a more representative time.
Exactly, CZcams channels need sponsors and paid promotions to create and support free to view content. Don’t see what the issue is as long as it’s transparent which it is.
@@marcuswills6569 What are you on about? I never said I had a problem with it. I asked, if you read the comment again, how much did they (the company) have to pay for a full-length video glorifying their product.
Do you have the wetsuit you NEED or the wetsuit you WANT? 🧐
I still need to get one. This was a great help. Thank y'all!

which race are you training for? dont get pressured to get the latest/greatest. im sure that one will be perfect!
“I wonder if I can find an even lower end suit.” 😂 I felt that.
The one I need. I need all the buoyancy I can get 😂

Good to see Steve back on the channel.
I’m 6ft 5. I go with what might fit my size (long) and my budget (short!)

Team athlex float 🤙🏻
Damn you GTN! Just ordered my Athlex Float 😜 Thanks for making my life easier and not spending more than needed!
Really interesting topic

That's awesome! Keep it up 🙌
brilliant video
Many thanks!
I'm one month away from getting a wetsuit. This video made my choice easier, thanks!

The one i need😊
The one i want is too expensive
always the way!

In my case what I need and what I want is exactly the same: a big pull buoy attached to a high buoyancy wet suit 😂
You should do women’s wetsuits. We float better and perhaps don’t need buoyancy as much as men. I have a new Aquasphere suit I love. Heads up, ladies!
I think I need all Orcas 😂
The wetsuit you need is the pink suit. That’s it

Ooof that must feel fresh 🥶

I have a Blue 70 (Reaction) suit.....it is excellent for me.
Interesting topic. What do you think about sleeves VS sleeveless?
Boardshorts vS Speedos, that's the question for me...
Wonder what I need. I have not swam in years.

MY WISH A SUPPLIER TO MAKE A HIGH END AT A LOW COST WOULD BE A GAME CHANGER
Hate to break it to ya but those things are sorta mutually exclusive

But would Dave have been faster in the Apex Float ? Wasnt really comparing apples with apples was it ?
It was the very lowest, vs the highest in terms of budget

A 1:30 difference over 400m is pretty conclusive. A longer test loop is not going to tell you anything different.

how much did they pay you for this 😂😂😂😂
Did you watch this for free?
@@marcuswills6569 What are you on about? This entire video is an ad for the wetsuit even they admitted it.
