@lynncase12 Thanks Lynn-I harvested my 1st eastern back in 1995 on Ft. Jackson where I was stationed. I lived there for about 4.5 years and go back every year to chase them hard gobblin' easterns. It is my second home! Good luck this spring!
Superb calling! Very helpful explanations! Thank you Scott~ going to order your DVDs
+Maxine Wehling Thanks Maxine!
Truly amazing what you can do on a mouth call sir. Your videos have helped me and the average hunter a lot. Love the videos but still can’t do that whine/feed call. Truly a hard call to make, for me. Thanks again for all that you do sir!!
Your welcome bud. Thanks for reaching out.
Scott, great videos man! You think you could make a short clip expanding on how you do the wine like you did in this video @ 3:05? I saw you do that in one of your other videos and been trying ever since but I just can't figure it out. It is driving me nuts. Mitchell Johnston also does it really well.
@tommoring The call is actually "floating" in your mouth. Meaning just enough pressure to keep it from sliding around. The front half of your tongue is actually doing the vibrating......Glad you like my call! Thanks.
Scott thank you for making this video you made explained it so that I could finially get the technique down. I speak some Spanish and I can roll my R's but I now can finally use my tounge to purr.
Sorry for the delayed response Ryan. Your using what I believe is a sonic dome. I've never used one but do not see how it would affect your tongue being able to flutter. A bat wing is generally a good call for purring.
@EternalSparksProd thank you very much!
So far the best calling video I've seen!
What call do you use? I have some primos calls from about 5 years ago but i think I'm going to get some new ones today.
+spydergs07 you can use this method on ANY mouth call. That was just a basic split V with the wing tips(right and left) trimmed off.
Thank you so much Scott for this video I couldn't get the technique down and you put it plain and simple in words that helped me. In Spanish I could roll my R's but this video helped me a lot thanks!
Yes sir! Thanks for watching and thank you! Glad it helped!
Im brand new to turkey hunting. Recently got the primos dome trible bat turkey call. And so far I can only do a good yelp. Its hard to purr and cluck. I always see videos where the calls look flat. Are those easier or something? Mine has this green dome on it
what cut is best for that melodious purr, that’s the most realistic purr i’ve heard!
I think this depends on the caller. I use my Woodhaven New Energy. Some like a combo cut. My Yellow Venom purrs very well too.
I'll see what I can do. Best way to describe, it is the same spot I use to attain the clear front note of the yelp, but with a little more pressure.
Great sounds brother. killed it
Thank you brother!
Being new to using Diaphragm calls, I'm watching a few of your videos you're so helpful!!! Thank you ! God bless and good luck this spring!
Yes sir! Thanks for watching and thank you! SORRY this was delayed! I am seeing comments I didn't know were there.
@@HuntQuestwithScottEllis this was 11 years ago bro haha that may be a record “ late reply” 🤣
🏆🏆🏆
@mrduckblind Glad it worked for ya!
Great stuff!
scott ellis you are the man
Thx brother
Yes rolling your R's is correct. Try expelling air in high volume and drop your jaw, while your lips form an O. Then move your tongue around as the air is expelling to try and achieve the flutter. There's not really a phrase that I've ever used.
You've got some serious calling skillz!
Thanks Rob!
Great calling. Thanks! Very Helpful
Glad it helped!
You bet! Hope it helps!
I make all of my calls, that is just blue tape. It is a 3 reeded V cut with the right wing tip trimmed off.
You bet Travis!
Hey Peter, that is a 3 reeded split V
hey thanks for the info helped out.
Thanks that helps me so much turkey season is in a few months I'm going to try this out
kadon schlechty Awesome! Your welcome!
When you say fluttering your tongue is that the same as the gargling like you would mouth wash or is the tongue flutter totaly different
No sir. Gargling is a totally different method that works very well, but very hard for me to do.
Thank Tito!
That's the best explanation iv heard. Thanks
+Reggie Helton thanks Reggie!
when i try to roll my tongue it sounds like a freakin party horn
Can you flutter your uvula? (little piece of skin that dangles in the back of your throat)
Hey guys sorry for the delayed response. It seems that the new youtube comments is hard to recognize. I'm running a split V here with the wings trimmed off. Just like my Woodhaven Ellis Signature call. That call is all natural latex. Not the colored stuff.
WOW. that is by far the best purr on a mouth call I've ever heard.
Thanks bud!
I think Chris parish got you beat Scott!
Scott, I have read through the comments hoping to get my question answered, and some came close, but here is mine: As far as "fluttering the tongue" is there any thing you can recommend to help achieve this action? A verse or word lol anything. Just cant seem to figure it out? Do I have to be able to roll my R's? Thank you.
ROLL your R's yes sir!
What is your favourite call out of all of your mouth calls?
A split V with the wing tips trimmed off.
This might be a dumb question, but you mentioned in a previous post that the call is floating in your mouth, do you literally mean it is sitting on top of your tongue and not stuck to the roof of your mouth, or just that it is stuck to the roof of your mouth but just no real tongue pressure on it?
I can't get one to work at all. Maybe because I have no teeth. Looks like I sticking with a slate call, at least I know that works,
I have never been able to use a mouth call. Look for a lohmans pump action yelper Rick Kratzke they work great.
Thanks Casey Marquardt I will
Just very light tongue pressure. If you put pressure on the call with you tongue and tense it up, it becomes much harder to achieve the flutter. Hope this helps.
Scott Ellis Thanks I was working on it some last night and when I trimmed some of the tape off that seemed to help it stay put!
The absolute master.
Thx brother
Hey I got the purr sound but it's not deep sounding like yours. I don't know if I need more pressure on the call or what???
Turkeys will purr with sometimes low and sometimes high tones. Dont sweat that. As long as it has that bubbly tone and is rolling well go with it. Good luck this spring.
Thank you for the video
Yes sir! Thanks for watching and thank you! SORRY this was delayed! I am seeing comments I didn't know were there.
@prostaffer2...I am curious how much you have cut off of that right wing and if it would make a real difference for me. If you do another video sometime could you show it to the camera so we could see? Still loving the woodhaven though..thanks!
Yes sir! Thanks for watching and thank you! SORRY this was delayed! I am seeing comments I didn't know were there.
just TINY slivers. I mean barely visible to your eye. Otherwise you can ruin the call.
I can yelp really well but have a really hard time clucking. What should I do different?!
Josh McCoy Just use a quick burst of air, a cluck is simply a yelp note condensed. You can try breathing the word "tuck" to get it started.
Hockeyplaya-so your not able to get your tongue vibrate?
Amazing best I've heard. You the man.( or bird)
Larry Confer Thanks Larry!
Thats some amazing turkey callin' brother. I hope I can only get half that good :)
Yes sir! Thanks for watching and thank you! SORRY this was delayed! I am seeing comments I didn't know were there.
Thanks that really helped your a literal turkey
Awesome!
Thanks man. That was very good
Yes sir! Thanks for watching! SORRY this was delayed! I am seeing comments I didn't know were there.
This helped allot thanx
Awesome!
What kind of call/cut is this ?
It's a Woodhaven Ellis New Energy
thanks scott
Yes sir! Thanks for watching! SORRY this was delayed! I am seeing comments I didn't know were there.
what call do you use
I mainly use my Woodhaven Ellis Signature. But the Raspy Red Reactor and Yellow Venom are always in my call case.
Nice dude
Yes sir! Thanks for watching and thank you! SORRY this was delayed! I am seeing comments I didn't know were there.
And what is that call?
+Connor Craftchick That is a split v with the wing tips trimmed off, identical to my Ellis signature call with Woodhaven.
I was almost expecting to hear a turkey gobble in the background
LOL! Yes sir! Thanks for watching and thank you! SORRY this was delayed! I am seeing comments I didn't know were there.
So realistic sounding .............. I can call up a turkey with a mouth call, but you take it to a much higher level. I just can't get the same tone. Perhaps I'm using the wrong call?!?
Thanks! definitely try experimenting with different cuts.
i shot my tom turkey doing just the cluck and purr right after watching this on my phone! great! maybe the turkey was just dumb they aint usually known for being dumb, but i laid the smack down a a merriam long bearded gobbler with my bow last year!
Kevin Spence Congrats!
You're the best Scott! I can call aggressive but it's that soft seductive calling that gives me fits on a mouth call. Jody
Anthony Hawk Thanks Jody! I love to soft call one to death!
I can’t purr at all
Sorry buddy. Try a pot call.
