      I have the same problem on my samyang lenses while using it on a newer bodies like A7CII and A7IV after the firmware update using the dock fixed those issues. I really feel bad about being too straight saying the AF is unreliable without doing basic troubleshooting first. He is a clearly a Tamron fanboy and might want a Tamron sponsorship. 🤣

      @@mrbrightside211 after the firmware update, does the samyang autofocus is on par with the tamron and can the samyang autofocus keep up when shooting sports/action photo when paired with the sony a7cii/a7iv??

      Are you all stupid, or is this just a contest ? Listen to what HE says, stop thinking of what YOU would like him to say !
      Then, read all comments published here... full of useful informations for those who doubt, or deny, or express without knowing. Especially the comment from "cinegenies4651", who used to own several Samyang lenses.
      A friend of mine, professional full-time DP, bought a Samyang lens in 2014. I don't remember which model exactly, but I do know it was my first time hearing about this brand and that he was very pleased with it. The purpose was to film rehearsals and spectacles of a dance company, so he needed something light and with a good aperture.
      When I met him at Musée d'Orsay (at sublime parisian museum, located in a former train station), where he was filming an entire show, he had no Samyang lens in his kit. After this first one, he told me about two others, which eventually got returned for reliability problems and aperture blades lacking smoothness (a major problem when filming in low-light conditions if you need to use the full capabilities of your lens, especially bought for this very purpose !). And that he also sold the first one, to prevent the same malfunctions from occurring while filming.
      He said about Samyang being "too much of a lottery", when it comes to reliability from item to item.
      Have you ever wondered why cine/TV gear-renting companies (very) rarely have Samyang AF-lenses in their offers ? I've seen just one, but it's their "economy" offer and it's all non-AF cine lenses.
      When in doubt, whatever the topic, just watch closely at how the experienced professionals behave with it. When it's your way of paying the bills and putting food on the table, you do care about how your gear will perform. A LOT !
      Exemple : personally, I will never ever use again products from BOYA, as they are totally unreliable... lesson learnt !

    I've e a copy and:
    1. Sharpness is great across the range
    2. Weight sucks, i find it too hard to carry especially with a flash attached.
    3. AF is fine, at least on my R3A.
    4. Lens creep is easily fixable with some black duct tape. I've fixed it half-assed, and removed like 90% of it, i'm sure that if i rly care about it more, i can fix it entirely, but it's fine the way it is rn.

    • @seansaca
      @seansaca Před měsícem +2

      Can you explain the duct tape thing please? Thanks.

    • @cosminthunde
      @cosminthunde Před měsícem +4

      @@seansaca Of course. I just zoomed in the lens to expose the barrel, then i applied like 3 layers of black duct tape on the top and on the bottom of the barrel, effectively making it "thicker". And cuz it's thicker, it's gonna have less room to wiggle/drop.
      The size of the duct tape was about 3-4cm long, nothing serious. Depending on the thickness of your duct tape, you may need more or fewer layers of it. You'll see improvements after the first 2 layers tho, anything more is just trying to achieve perfection.

    In like the honest review. You should talk more about the tamron 35-150mm maybe another video?
    I have the samyang 35-150mm, love the lens, i cant compaire to the tamron because i haven't used it yet.
    However i agree with the lens creep, ive seen other youtubers talk and demonstrate the creeping, one thing you didn't talk about was the lens lock location maybe it wasn't a problem for you because of how you shoot and record.
    With these two things i dont like there is many more things i love. The samyang 35-150mm is allways on my sony a7iii, i got mine for $1000 cheaper then the tamron, so was able to buy a sigma 50mm 1.4. I noticed an improvement in focusing after the firmware upgrade, its on pair with the sigma now.

    Surely, before you do a review, you check out stuff like whether a f/w upgrade is or isn't needed which in this case that lens needed?
    You now cannot present an unbiased review after a f/w upgrade as it is likely that you would have to try and justify your original opinion, rightly or wrongly.
    For clarity, I do not own the Samyang or any other 35-150mm

      Oh I agree 100% The Tamron version is my go to.. I wanted to test for myself if this was going to be a good pair to my Tamron since I’m in love with the versatility of 35 to 150 in a lens but it turned out to be that statement “You get what you pay for”

    your copy of Samyang 35-150 has issues. So , comparing the price of Tamron , which is 1.67 times more expensive than Samyang,(in MY country , Samyang costs 1200 euro and Tamron costs 2000 euro. that explains why you think that Samyang feels cheaper . AND , Samyang is parfocal :P . I`m not a fan of Samyang, actually , i just trade my Samyang 24-70 for a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 , caused of weight ...

    It's been years that Samyang has a very bad Quality Control. Lots of primes and zooms copies have defects, even the latest ones. Some are spotted by the reviewers, some are ignored because they were sent the best possible copy by the brand. I owned the 35mm f1.4, 45mm f1.8, 75mm f1.8 and still have today the 135mm f1.8.
    I used to like Samyang, but you realize one day that it's a lotery. A funny fact, is that I have been using for years the famous 75mm f1.8 that was very nice. And that's when I had to take group photos at a wedding last year that I discovered the lens was decentered. And then when you browse the internet you understand that you are not an isolated case.
    So yeah I can confirm that it is really unprofessionnal to sell random quality lenses over 1K$ !
