On paper this sounds like an amazing lens - In reality this is an amazing lens
like 300 to 500 gramms less and this would be my last lense i ever buy xDDD
hows the distortion?
It's really great to see some photographers talking and sharing their experience about the cameras and lenses they are using.
Dude thank you so much for the shoutout! It was great meeting you. definitely Wouldn't have predicted this encounter when I forced myself to go shoot on a whim last min! Gotta love L.A.
Also, that lens is sick. Kinda makes me regret leaving the Sony ecosystem. Canon. Fuji. where you at?!
You seem like a really chill dude, loved your cameo appearance eheh 😜 Best of luck in your projects!
Fuji has the best colours but if only they had the ibis and lens selection, I would go back in a heartbeat.
@@charlesnetzler2262 the ibis on the gfx 100s is better than any Sony I’ve used. Worth checking out.
@@stephenkarlisch2090 I have the GFX100, the IBIS and weight of the camera is definitely good but I don't think it's better than the r5., I've heard sony ibis isn't the greatest but i would've assumed its better than the gfx100
@@charlesnetzler2262 ah, the 100s is by far much better ibis than the original 100, as is improved on the 50s2 as well. I do wish there were some more lens options for Fuji, but maybe in 2022.
And for videographers, you can do amazing things with that USB-C port, using the Tamron Lens Utility. Turn your by wire MF behavior to linear mechanical MF with a programmable rack: choose from 90, 180, 270, or a full 360° turn for minimum focus to infinity. With those hard stops you're looking for! Program focus pulls between two spots (and set the speed of that pull!). Program a specific focus distance for immediate memory. Change the MF ring to control iris. So much good can happen in a smart lens well set for its user. You can even change the direction the MF ring turns, if you're one of those cats who thinks Tamron goes the "wrong" way 😂
I have started my career as a wedding photographer and i bought sony a7m3 with kit lens 28-70 f3.5-5.6 and i am planning to buy a new lens because i have some shoots so i am bit confused which lens to purchase price lens 35mm f1.8 or 85mm f1.8 or should I buy tamron 70-180 f2.8 ?
@@CarlosTucker-sp4bj Buy this lens or the one sayang makes. Just picked up the Samyang 35-150 (basically same lens) for $1,079 on their website. Early black friday deal going on now. I shoot my weddings with a Sony A7iii and I can't wait for the next one with this lens.
@@Sherwood.Photography can you please share me the reviews of the samyang lens how it functions in wedding about auto focus also it would really help me about buying the lens
@@CarlosTucker-sp4bj czcams.com/video/2M1NF_8XFQQ/video.htmlsi=2bMip_guVIFoaY4M
It's really is magnificent. Coolest feature is ability to customize focus ring, setting it to linear, and choose custom degrees of focus travel in the app. With very little breathing it's the best hybrid (video/stills) lens for sony I've seen yet
Just got mine today and already in love !!!! It’s so perfect for the artistic side of my photos I had been stretching to reach with other lenses
I'm very satisfied with this lens. It delivered what I needed for an event using it on the A1. At one point, I did have to pull out the old 70-200 GM for that extra reach. So, I had the A7Siii with the GM and the A1 with the Tamron. The Tamron AF felt like the old GM AF which is a testament to how good this lens is with motors that are being used for the amount of glass in the lens. Very pleased with the results I got. Now, if only Sony would get the 70-200 GM II shipped out to me. :)
For any infrared shooters, the lens is not good for IR going smaller than f/4. I use the Tamron 28-200 for IR and love using it for general usage.
With the A1’s megapixel count, you could absolutely use Super 35 mode on it to give you 50% more reach. The 150mm end becomes 225.
I have Super 35 connected to a custom function button on my body.
Those skies are incredible, wow!! The transition from golden hour to blue hour is always so interesting.
Absolutely amazing event/wedding/portrait lens. I don't need it, but it would make life so much easier in many instances. Currently using 2 cameras on lot of shoots and this would totally fix that issue.
1:58 that direct comparison of the focal range and the aperture range is exactly what I've been looking for thanks.
Such a dope lens man!
EXCELLENT review. Relevant conversation throughout. I am persuaded
This is the one time where i just love the sponsor.
Thx!
For anyone interested, the Canon C70 with the EF to RF speedbooster works with Tamron's 35-150 f2.8 - 4. Because of the speed booster it'll ramp it up to a f2.0-2.8 That's what I have been running lately and it works incredible. You'll also have way less weight and you'll get VC with the 2.8 to 4 version.
*cries in full frame* My biggest regret switching from sony to canon
@@LoightaFluwid why did you switch, it's expensive to switch brand. as for me I'm still okay with canon since I don't the latest and greatest. We're not CZcamsrs that talk about gears. Of course they can change system, they make money talking about that. It's your fault anyway, but nevertheless don't be tempted with the latest.
I might have to do that how much is the speed booster?
Shoot, now you got me considering the EF version.
@@PotatoJet bring back the c70 :)
Great lens that gets slept on - Sigma 40mm f/1.4, literally one of the sharpest lenses of all time, like Otus level or higher. It's big and heavy, but it's a beast. Was on sale for $789 recently, total steal at that price.
Awesome video, awesome lens! Thanks Potato!!!!
Amazing review Gene. Tamron has been killing the game lately
Ahahah this review was just pure fun all the way through. I also loved how you involved the photographer Santiago who recognised you. I'm after this beast of a lens and after this video I'd like to use one soon even more!
Great review on this lens as it is one of the main reason why I switched to the Sony FF body over all the other FF camera manufactures that are trying to eliminate 3rd party lens. When paired with the Sony A7RV with 8-stop IBIS, the 60MP FF with the sharp Over Sampling 26MP APS-C images that is sharper than the 33MP image from the A7IV it provides incredible flexibilities that covers most of my needs.
Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0-f/2.8 focal range including in APS-C mode:
@ f/2.0: 35mm-39mm (APS-C range: 52.5mm - 58.5mm / Total available range: 35mm - 58.5mm)
@ f/2.2: 40mm-59mm (APS-C range: 60.0mm - 88.5mm / Total available range: 40mm - 88.5mm)
@ f/2.5: 60mm-79mm (APS-C range: 90.0mm - 118.0mm / Total available range: 60mm - 118.0mm)
@ f/2.8: 80mm-150mm (APS-C range: 120.0mm- 225.0mm / Total available range: 80mm - 225.0mm)
Personally I rather carry this one lens than have to miss precious moments during lens swapping, not to mention dealing with increasing frequency of sensor cleaning and dust entering into different lenses and while have to carry the weight of all the extra lenses on a much larger and heavier camera bag.
Awesome lens! Another quality video! Thank you.
Happy Holidays potato Family 🎉🖤
Kind of surprised you didn't mention that for a video lens this has a couple other advantages: It's reasonably parfocal and has minimal focus breathing. Now I just need B&H to get it in stock!
I paid for it 2 weeks ago and I still haven't received any email saying it's back in stock. I highly recommend you to just go and pay better than just waiting. I was hunting it for the past 2 months and it never went in stock so I just went and purchased it and they will email me when my item arrives.
@@pancholini I've had it on order for 4 months, no luck so far.
@@NorfKhazad wow, that sucks. I was hoping to have my lens in 2 more weeks maximum lol
always loves ur content💝
Just tried this at a wedding yesterday and... Holy 🥔. It's amazing.
Lender unit?? Keepers only man 💪
Just coming here to say, that in F/4 you have some great options with that range. It's the f/2-2.8 what is impressive here.
7:05 ok gene you're now officially a video camera 😂
Damn, man went from a potato to a video camera
Lol. I heard if you want to become something bad enough, just keep saying it to yourself and it just might happen.
Seeing Gene changing from a Canon people to a Sony people is like..
I've been subscribing this channel for too long.
YES SAM IS BACK!!!
I'm always looking for that one lens to do most what I need, and I think you found it. Now, I just have to save up for a full frame and that lens. God, why do I have expensive tastes.
Fantastic review, sir.
its my favorite potato love watching your videos bro
After watching enough reviews for this lens, I think I'm going to buy this over getting the 28-75mm and the 70-180mm from Tamron. My sensor is always getting dust when I swap my primes so I'd love to replace most of my lenses with a single good zoom. It's time to start saving up for it
I sold off my 70-180 and 28-75 G2 for it and have not looked back!
@@rickt.8866still happy with that choice?
@@rickt.8866about a year later how do you feel about the 35-150?
My Fuji dude in the video - love it!
I have the Tamron 28-200 2.8-5.6 … it’s an amazingly versatile lens for full frame
I think this might just be the best wedding lens. Might have to pick it up
Tamron is by far the best up and coming innovative lens company right now
I don't know if the night shots came from that lens but it looked GOOOD 👌👌👌
Looking at your friend face when you were trashing him for the Canon lens was hilarious 😆
As a Fuji shooter it's lenses like this that make me miss the Sony side of things.
I already know this lens is crazy
tried a tamron 28-200 f2.8-5.6, also super impressive for day time landscape shooting
That was so awesome. I've been eyeing the new Tamron 28-70 G2 a lot. If I needed to go past 70mm super often, this would be perfect.
I use the 15-30 and I love it
What a test. Good luck on your journey with this lens, Gene! Hope to see you in another country. 😂
Thanks for the video...the lens is just a wee bit out of my price range! Love your videos PJ!
Finally ♥️
You got that sweet Santa sponsorship - he must have hooked you up with some cool gifts
Holy dang. Fast lenses are the best, but to have a lens that fast that can zoom that much is insane.
I wish this would have been a 24-105 f2-f2.8. 35mm is good but wish it was a tad wider. I still might go for this bad boy though. Such a sick lens.
You're asking for a ridiculously massive lens, the Canon 28-70 f/2 is already as big and heavy as this lens. I couldn't imagine going even wider and longer with the only "downgrade" being f/2.8 on the long end, that would be a huge and expensive lens.
Wish this lens was around before I bought 35mm , 85mm , 105mm & 135mm primes lol I hope they release a fast 150 - 300mm lens like this
Merry Christmas!👋👍🌲🌍🌹
I love Signal Hill. Great views there
the only youtuber that says it right, shallow depth of field meaning less detail the background. Many other youtubers including the famous ones mistakenly understand by saying : "to get more depth of field' to say "getting more bokeh" :)
I have a Tamron 70-200 2.8 love it!
I've been waiting for this lens. Not this one specifically but I was told that we would get more lenses like this with the next gen lens mounts. You know long zooms with wide apetures. I want a 24-105 f/2.8... from canon.
No, I want a 12-7000mm f/1.0 zoom with zero breathing, parfocal, 7 focus motors, and I want it to fit in my pocket, be sharper than the hubble space telescope, and cost less than a pack of gum. And I want Canon to make it.
Awesome lens awesome review. Oh man so tempting. Where did you shoot this review? Awesome place for sunset
The low focus breathing should have been mentioned. It sets the Tamron apart from Canon 28-70.
Facts
Potato, would you be able to do more of those high end learning vids. where you did projects and talked about them.
Pretty thorough review. Is there any AF motor noise to be concerned about for video?
Megadap adapter and it's good for the Nikon Z mount also. Ditched my 24-70 f4 and 70-200 f2.8 FL ED for this Tamron.
Seriously impressive lens for the size and price.
The swirl distortion at 135mm looks insane
PJ - I've never used a lens without IBS for video. If I use this on a gimbal do you think I'll be okay? mostly for wedding content. thanks...
that sunset ... sheesh bro.
If you haven't already, check out Tamron 28-200 f2.8. And with the APS-C mode on Sony, the range is even more. On top of that, it can focus real close, so need for a Macro. The only lens you will ever need as hobbyist.
its the perfect B cam tripod lens . missing the tripod collar though. adjusting the tilt/pan can be awkward as it gets so front heavy
Finally, a lens of my taste, from my RX10II with the bridge lens of 24-200mm (35mm equivalent) constant f2.8, I can say that this will be my first lens paired with my dreaming A7SIII, and we are going places ☺
But it is not f/2.8 equivalent, it is about f/8 equivalent. It is 73.3 mm f/2.8 at the longest. That means a 26.2 mm aperture. Real 200 mm gets that at f/7.6, a 200 mm f/2.8 has a 71 mm aperture.
@@okaro6595 yeah, noticed that on the exif data, but it still says f2.8, even on cam, and also asked from a SONY representative.
The 28-70 roast 😂😂😂
Would be interesting if the focus motor of the RS 2 is used as a zoom motor and if fully zoomed in, if there is any jitter/shaking on the recording.
Nice review! Always fun and cheerful. Where was this location at? Very nice sunset and city lights spot! Thank you
just noticed thats signal hill! thats dope
I need this lens in RF mount… ASAP… let’s go Tamron!!!
Hi, just want to know if this lens would be good for astrophtography and if there's a test somewhere about this. thanks for this vid, as always very usefull !
lens lens I see again Pototo Jet at lens on camera! smile! 🙂
Wow, can't believe you locked down that Santa sponsorship. I guess I'll leave him a potato with the cookies to let him know you sent me.
Would be fun to see you get an MC-11 adapter and a speedbooster, and slap this on your C70
Love your videos! Was suprised I was not subscribed. I switched from sony a7rii to canon Eos R, but this lens is very exciting. If I didnt have so much RF glass id think about switching for size alone. Do you have a smaller everyday carry camera? Ive considered getting like a fuji X-e4 or Olympus e-m5 III with a wide or 35mm, but not sure if theres something better out there.
I want one so bad now. That's gonna be my third lens haha
How was the focus breathing? I am guessing not so good with the range the lens moves.
Did realize you were a local. I love signal hill!
amazing
Great video! How's the autofocus? And how is the autofocus compared to the Sony 24-70 GM II?
Will you please do a video on the Tamron 11 -20mm? Please and Thank you!
Dylan's modeling portfolio has got to be MASSIVE by now.
would you recommend this lens over the sigma 24-70mm 2.8f ?
