I wasn't convinced but honestly, Gaethje is quite easily flustered when he fights guys who stay on him. Oliveira and Khabib were both able to stay in his face and Gaethje very visibly freaked out and started winging wild looping shots in a desperate attempt to get them to back off.

@@jtasmo409 I agree but Fiziev and Poirier didn't really keep on him. We haven't seen him fight someone who's willing to stay in his face since his loss to Oliveria. Be an awesome fight regardless and I think a lot closer than most people seem to think it'll be.

@@WtfIsLigmaeven early when Fiziev was coming forward Justin was just winging shots and looking ugly. Oliveira was the same way and it got him put away quickly. Hell same with Chandler honestly, Gaethje takes time to settle in and become composed Gaethje, early on he is very similar to WSOF Gaethje if you are in his face making him fight right away. You can make him panic and gas himself pretty much every time with the right plan and if you don’t get hurt badly doing so.
Max eats guys alive when the are panic swinging and Max doesn’t get tired and has got the best chin in the history of the sport. I 100% think this is Max’s fight with the right game plan. Same reason I thought Ferguson would beat him but then Ferguson has an awful game plan and almost got killed instead after an awful weight cut.

This is the thing Guru. Max's head is there to be taken. He's always taken big shots. When Max wins he wins because he outclasses other guys as boxers, or occasionally because he has better cardio and just wears them down. I don't see either of those happening. He never finishes anyone. Before he stopped The Korean Zomb he hadn't finsihed anyone in 7 years and had a 4 and 4 record over his last 8.
Max was not on his way to TKO'ing Poireir. Poirier's corner stupidly encouraged Poirier to spend rds 3 and 4 wrestling Max but Poirier was winning the standup everytime. Max won't be able to out cardio Gaethje and he will wear the damage much harder and thus will lose by decision, that is if he isn't KO'd earlier.
People are always saying Max is going to be so much better this time. But Poirier was better in 2023 when Geathje beat him than in 2019 when Poirier beat Max. These lightweights have not fallen off yet. At all. They are at their very best right now.

Really solid take, my counter would be gaethje as the power puncher will edge it out just by having a "damage" advantage. Max is hittable, and he can take it, but when they are scoring rounds 3-5 its gunna be hard to give it to a swollen max. I said this in the Fizzy build up and it was prophetic, I think Gaethje is very hard to beat because of the way his shots land on people, it just cuts them.
So Gaethje by decision, but I ike your take, very possible.

Justin has the fastest jab in the division and if he can utilize it he can stop max in his tracks and hault his combos. Holloway tends to lean in a lot and extend his arms to gauge distance and gaethje is composed he can throw his lightning fast jab and stun max
